Well I don't know I kinda don't thrust in yahoo I am all out google maniak it has many better programs and in fact it is better and work out better. Also it has wider palet of programs which are in fact usuful.

It slows mine soooooooo much. I only use it for the itunes companion widget to download artwork and lyrics. Dont use any others. I prefer the google desktop gadgets. So much better and lesserr memory.

I would like to know if anyone can provide real explanation what widgets are in fact. Because I have found usage of this term in many programs and it has been used in wide variety of occasions. So if anyone could put explanation here what widgets really are? It would be more than appreciated.

A widget is a micro application that runs inside another host application. This host application usually contains its own programming language such that to make a widget you do not need to be extremelly knowledgeable in code, rather you only need some basics: so in perhaps a standard program language you might need to write a string like:

draw box 123,123 to 345,345
shade box color 445234
draw box.....
shade....background color etc.

In a widget it may read:
Big Hollow box: green

And the widget engine interprets this data and displays it using its own code.




As for the Yahoo widget engine: the new one uses half the system resources of the old one, plus for Windows XP users, it is an ideal alternative to the Vista toolbar: more options and applications available, looks better, uses less system resources, and you can even write your own widgets if you can't find exactly what you are looking for!

Been using them Yahoo! widgets for some time. After the instalation, I noticed my computer will never shut down immediately I click on the shut down. You know, I was not even able to figure out what my problems were. I started hibernating my PC more often than a complete shut down. I also noticed that during start up and after the login screen, it takes my computer a much longer time to display the desktop than usual. And one more thing, before it finally starts shutting down, it will always complain that the Yahoo widgets engine is not responding n I will always click the end now button.

Them widgets suck like hell. I had to remove all of them and leave my windows XP and Vista to be as free as possible from all of 'em.

Guys, if you are a Sirius subscriber, you should download the yahoo widget engine and then get the Sirius widget, its great, if you are listening to Sirius radio, it won't cut out after 20-30 minutes of inactivity on your computer, that is what happens when you use the radio when you log on to the Sirius.com page and open their player... this yahoo widget lets you stream the radio forever... I listen to Howard stern and its great to be in bed and not have to worry about it cutting out.... Here is the link to the widget.... Enjoy!!!
