mizako
Hi,
I am using a knoppix 3.3 distro with a 2.4.24 kernel in my box.
I tried to install recently KDE 3.3. All the modules are installed ok except of kdebindings and kdewebdev. Both fail due to compilat errors. I upgraded to gcc 4.3 (I had previously gcc 3.4) but they still fail. Here is the kdebindings log:

You might as well use Knoppix installed on your HDD. This more or less translates to Debian. Just grab a fresh copy of Knoppix from their website. It will detect your hardware properly. Install it on your HDD and that's it. The latest one (3.6 if I am not mistaken) comes with KDE 3.3, so that you won't have to worry about updating it.

Thats bullshit since the support of hardware lays mostly in the kernel, as long as you have 2.6.x you should be fine with the support.

For the topicstarter:

May I ask why you use the "vesa"video drivers since they "suck" and have a bad resolution support.

I see also that you have set:
CODE

Option  "DPMS"  "true"

I have seen lots of problems garding X support with htis option set perhaps it is an idea to try to run it with:
CODE

Option  "DPMS"  "false"

or
CODE

#Option  "DPMS"  "boolean"

Don't know, I install kde 3.3.1 and it works perfectly.
Maybe gcc is not in harmony with glib, g++ and others...? blink.gif

try this:
press CTRL+ALT and run thru F1 - F7 while pressin CTRL+ALT. If you hit F7 and there's XFree86 server runnin, then you found ur prob. YOU CANNOT RUN more THAN 1 X SERVER*... if not, try the command init 5 or startx

biggrin.gif nice thinking but dont you think that if he was running an x-server already that linux would have come up with an error himself?

Try to do a startx in vt-2 when you run X and you see what I mean wink.gif

btw not all distros run X in vt-7 (F7) for instance gentoo runs it in vt-8 (F8) and (oke its not linux) freebsd runs it in vt-9 (F9) for default.

greetz...
