A world without religion?
I was thinking about it and thought, you know, i think it would be better. Here are my reasons. The biggest change in the world would be less wars. Think about it. Most wars are start because of religion. One of the reasons people came to America back in the 1700s was because they wanted freedom of whatever religion they wanted. Another great thing that would come about it would be that laws would be made on what is actually bad. For example, the most well known mostly religious law is the banning of gay marriage. I don't know if they would accept it or not, but the descions would be for science and what could hurt people. Another would be no one would discrimanate about religions and whats better. It would be just one more thing people could hurt feelings about. There are more, but i want to save it to keep the topic going. Remember i'm not saying that religion in bad, i am just saying i think the world would be better. Please don't say stuff like," Well people would kill each other because the bible tells them now they can't." We all know, or most of us, that people can still follow basic human rules such as killing people. Just think if people would wake up and forget about religion.

Well, i don't think we'd be able to get rid of religion entirely. For example, many things taught in science is a religion within itself.

Perhaps I'm too young to really say anything about this? I'm only 10.. I'm clueless on what to say. Anyway, I'm not saying Yes or No. Well, isn't christian a good religion? What would it be like without it?

That is your opinion Masuko...I personally am not into christianity, what would the world be like without it? Better probably, just like if other religions were gone . I would like to see a world without religion itd probably be more peaceful. You wouldnt have as many terroist attacks (many happen because its what their religion believes), people wouldn't judge you, because their religion is against you, there wouldnt be murderious cults, there wouldnt be people acting out against religions, people wouldnt have to worry about 'offending' people by their own religion or remarks. People wouldnt have the excuse "satan made me do it" just there a very long list, of why the world would be better without religion. Think of all the problems it causes, look at the holocaust, even all the massacres in rome because of christianity, judism, and polytheism. Religion has doomed our world since the beginning.

I agree without any religion we would have less wars. The world would be a better safer place to live. There would be no fights or anything. What if we could get rid of races. Everyone would be blue or red but everyone likes green

Well, in the UK the majority of the population list their religion as Christianity on the Census, although most people don't live their lives in a religious way. This doesn't seem to make a massive difference in comparison to other countries where religion is a much stronger part of daily life for most people. When you said that people might say: QUOTE Well people would kill each other because the bible tells them now they can't. We do have laws, so people would not go around killing people, or stealing or looting etc. any more than they do at the moment. If anything, religion, as you have said, starts more wars and causes more deaths than any religious law prevents. For example, it is very likely that the bombings in London would not have happened if it wasn't for religion. Worldwide, most religious people are fine but there are a few in each religion that just want to cause trouble and take their views to the utmost extremes. There is no problem with religions and their concepts, but the people who enact those concepts.

The assumption that the world would be a better place without religion can't be proven. if it's not religion then it'd be something else... btw, I am not saying that it would be a better place with religion, I realise there is has been a centuries old war between the Muslims and the Jews etc. etc. but still I firmly believe that if there wasn't religion, the world wouldn't be any better then it is now... I mean, which religious group is leading the way against drugs, alcahol, prostitution, abortion and world hunger. none of these things were caused by religion (debate world hunger if you wish, but it's pretty much impossible to start)

It's been tried before, and the country that tried it collapsed in 1991. A fundamentalist government based around athiesm just wouldn't work in this day and age unless you use an underdeveloped country because like I said in a previous post - the modernn world is too spoiled for such an expiriment to go through.

I agree having a religion would be much better. You will try to live up what that religion wants you to live and i hope that would be a good person. Also i have a story and its about my neighbor. I am roman catholic and my neighbor is protestant. n e ways my mom went out side and our neighbor came to us and was like take this book read it and do it so my mom was like ok and she didnt pay n e attention and brought it in the house so that same night before i went to bed i read it and it was theee worst thing you could give to a person. It was saying how roman catholic was fake and that jesus calls it the religion for whor*s and saying that its fake and you should immedatly switch to protestant. I showed my mom and she quickly threw it away. Would you guys have the guts to give your neighbors such a thing if you know they had that religon?

Yea but, alot of religions, true or not, keep there followers in line..chritianity for example, its got it clear in there that there are commandments or rules, keeps people in line, im sure most religions have that, and i know alot of wars start because of it but comeon we're human, we'd find other reasons to start wars. just my opinion and about people not judging us if theres no religion, its crazy to think that, people are judged for everything they do thats not what the general people say is right.

I am forced to say no because of my religion, but if it were my opinion, I would say yes. The world would be more peaceful because people will be afraid to die. Why? This is because they have no reason to believe in an "after life" when they are religion-less. The next reason would be that there will be nobody that will insult you regarding the way you dress, since everybody will be the same. However, I still think every human is the same, no matter what religion they follow.

what does it matter?
A World Without A Religion?
What does it matter whether we think the world would be a better, safer place. Jsut because its what you believe doesnt mean it actually will be. How about you think about all the people who actually enjoy religion. Alot of the time, their religion offers them a meaning in life. And if not a meaning, then something to look foward to. Peoples beliefs give them, or at least let them belive that they have a better understanding of where they will be after life. People feel safer knowing or thinking they know where they will go. Christianity for example, it gives christians a belief that heaven is perfect, their utopia. At least when they die they can look foward to something. Rather then dieing and not having any idea at all about where youll end up. Also, everyone has to believe in something. An athiest believes that there is no God. That means that they still believe in something. Its jsut opposite to most religions. An athiest is still in the same boat as budhist and christians. Athiest are still believing something, by believing that there is no God at all. So it would be virtually impossible to have a world without religion. Religion didnt start the wars, the people did. You cant base the whole war situation on one thing. Hilter didnt go around killing people because of his religion, he was killing people because of what they looked like. Can you blame being judgmental on religions as well? Religions arnt making people pay out and discriminate other people. Christianity tells people not to judge. Their religion they believe in tells them to acept everyone. And yet they could possibly and often are the most judgmental of all. Is it the religion or the people? people would still be judgmental without religion, its human nature. What would life be if you didnt believe in anything. What would be the purpose of it? people live to get to where their religion offers them. Budhists are nice to people so that in the next life, they are rewarded. They have something to look foward to, and they have a meaning and purpose to life in the mean time. Personally, having a world without religion would solve nothing. Cutting out religion isnt going to stop wars. Wars occur for many reasons. Such as one country wanting more land, does that have anything to do with religion? cutting out religion wouldnt solve wars, it would jsut make people try to find other reasons to start them. People with beliefs would be unhappy, as their purpose in life, their meaning of living would be taken away from them. And lastly people wouldnt be anyless judgmental as its human instict to judge, its what we do, with or without religion. -reply by betty -----ADMIN opinion... -> One Word -> WOW. God Bless you. Replying to JasperIkReplying to Justin S.Then what has happened to humanity? We would've destroyed our diversity, which is the largely defining trait of humanity, in order to not offend people of our own race... Are you willing to sacrifice everything that makes us human just to make things "better"? The last time religion was abolished, Stalin and Red China killed millions, if not hundreds of millions. -reply by none of your business

Faith in God can actually be a good thing. It gives you a sense of motivation, et cetera, that if you do something that's bad in someone else's eyes, "He" (there, I capitalized it once) will know that you meant well, and forgive you against that specific other person. It's only the organization of religion that's a problem. No religion today can possibly claim that they are the best religion to follow God with, simply because they have too many flaws for the perfect image of God to accept. For example, Catholicism holds an Index Librorum (?) Prohibitorum that acts as a "guideline" (since '54, it was the absolute law before then) to which books Catholics should not look at. And in Islam, if it's not good enough for you, too bad, you're already under Allah's control. With Judaism, you have to lose part of your skin near your "equipment" at 8 days of age, which is an extremely old tradition. All I'm saying is, follow what you want.

QUOTE(BooZker @ Apr 7 2008, 05:34 AM) Sense then I put my life into full gear am more cautious about what I do and find myself more moralistic because I know that I have one life to live, only one, and then I am done. I want to live it to the fullest. Being a criminal and spending life in prison would be a total waste of life to me because I would have accomplished nothing. Prior to that I had the feelings of "why does it matter if this life doesn't mean anything except to get me into heaven?" Since (not sense) when is working to get into Heaven part of Christianity? Being religious does not mean that we are not allowed to become artists, programmers, musicians, et cetera. You're making assumptions about the Christian life that isn't true. You say you want to live life to the fullest, but you also imply that you are limiting yourself. For a moralistic person would not try to live life to its fullest. You might see worshipping God as a waste of time, but what if people choose to? Who says i can't become a musician and give people a new look at my religion and change the music industry from foolishness to proper morals? Who says i can't become a programmer and make programs for churches, schools, people in general, et cetera? People have many ways of worshipping God. QUOTE(BooZker @ Apr 7 2008, 05:34 AM) I know for a fact, in my case, I would have never been able to finish high school, graduate college with a 3.7GPA+, be in a long term relationship starting at 16, and become a web developer at 17 if I had never become an Atheist because I wouldn't have felt the need to work that hard sense this life was only to get me into heaven. Religion to me, does not give hope, but a reason to slack off and only do the minimum. Obviously not all people who are religious [are] slackers, but I think many do use this as an excuse. Because of your assumptions, that is why you "know for a fact" that you would not have done what you have done. Regardless, you're making little sense: you keep mentioning that for the religious this life is to work for Heaven. Wouldn't someone who is working for Heaven work harder than you? Do you know how hard it is to get into Heaven through deeds alone? I don't think you've taken the time to look at the religious folk who have been working as "hard" as you say you have or harder. Either that or you are emphasizing far too much on those who don't. Each have their own reason(s) for doing and not doing something, but if they aren't doing anything wrong, why speak against it? But what is the "minimum" to you? Or, perhaps i should say, what is the "maximum" to you? How will you make it appear objective?

A True Religion?

Religion And Terrorism
