Bringing clarity to your world Windows Vista™ (formerly code named Longhorn) Beta 1 for developers and IT professionals has begun. Check this site regularly to find the most up to date information and links to other sites at Microsoft related to Windows Vista. ----------------------------------- Windows Vista: A clear breakthrough
Windows Vista is a huge leap forward in personal computing. Advances in reliability, security, ease of deployment, performance, and manageability make it easy to: Confidently do what you want, when you want, and where you want Clearly organize your work and play in powerful new ways Connect seamlessly with other people, devices, and computers
Windows Vista has something for everyone. Users will love the fast startup time and even faster return from sleep state. IT departments face fewer user problems and enjoy more automated repair and easier administration. Organizations and enterprises benefit from less downtime, fewer IT hassles, and greater productivity.
Reliability: From prevention through recovery
Windows Vista detects hardware problems before they occur; reduces the frequency of incidents in which applications stop responding or the PC needs to be restarted; and automatically recovers from startup and service failures. How do you benefit? No data loss, no frustration, and no downtime. • Security: Defense in depth
Windows Vista is the most secure and trustworthy Windows operating system ever, and it helps organizations achieve their business and computing goals with confidence. Windows Vista security features protect against the latest generation of threats, such as worms, viruses, and malware. If an attacker manages to compromise a computer, Windows Vista limits the damage. • Deployment: Image-based setup
An image-based setup makes Windows Vista much easier to deploy than earlier versions of the Windows operating system. Installation is more reliable and takes advantage of built-in imaging technology and tools. Upgrades from earlier versions of Windows are clean installations that allow you to preserve user data and settings.
Performance: Fast and responsive
Windows Vista delivers improved performance where you’re sure to notice it. Enjoy the faster startup time and low power consumption of the new sleep state. In many cases, Windows Vista is noticeably more responsive than Windows XP on identical hardware. • Management: Greater control and better tools
Windows Vista simplifies and centralizes desktop configuration management, reducing the cost of keeping systems updated. ------------------------------------- Windows Vista: End-to-end experiences
Windows Vista brings clarity to your world by seamlessly connecting you to people and devices, enabling a new level of confidence in your PC, and introducing clear ways to easily organize and use your information so you can focus on what matters to you.
Explore the Windows Vista features that give you clarity and confidence in four key experiences:
Productivity and Information Management Windows Vista improves efficiency across common PC activities, and introduces powerful, flexible ways to visualize and organize information, easier ways to share files, and safer Web surfing and email.
Mobile and Connected Windows Vista makes it easier to use computers and networks while on the go.
Networking and Connectivity
Windows Vista simplifies the task of connecting to networks, data and people. Assistance, Upgrading and Backup
Windows Vista eases the burden on IT professionals and help desks; automatically detects and resolves known problems; and provides easy-to-use backup and restore techniques. ----------------------------------- Windows Vista: Next-generation platform
Windows Vista is fundamentally different from earlier versions of Windows, and this difference is already sparking innovation across the computer industry.
Windows Vista introduces development innovations that help developers create next-generation applications that take full advantage of Windows Vista, including:
WinFX, a managed-code programming model
Windows Presentation Foundation (formerly Avalon), Microsoft’s unified presentation subsystem for Windows
Windows Communication Foundation (formerly Indigo), Microsoft’s next-generation Web services technology
Aero, the new Windows Vista design philosophy -------------------------------------

Sounds hot. I currently used windows xp myself and love its stability. So Windows Vista is even Better, wow. However, I hate the "Activation " process though.
I mean, i think when you buy a sofware you can install a copy on one computer, but you can also have the mobility to decide to install it on another computer and delete the software from the old computer.
I mean, that would still only be using the software on one computer; and the rules is Terms is not break. Right?
windows vista is 32bit, windows xp x64 is for 64-bit. there's probably a function where the optimize it for your 32bit or 64bit processor. anyways i say it looks nice, but it's power consuming...so renderers and gamers may get a loss in performance.
Ive already got vista...You need a good pc to get the full potential out of it though. It's basically XP with a new GUI lots of eye candy and power tools. The layout it nice though but i hate how programs on the start menu are organised. FI your going to get vista don't get the home basic as that doesn't have the glassy black aero theme. I would suggest if your just going to use vista for work etc gete the Home Professional as you don't need a super fast PC to run it. Im running Business and its got all the features of ultimate except Games and Media Centre
For those of you that have or have used Vista, I would like to hear your opinions. Thus far, I haven't seen anything that is convincin enough for me to buy it. What can it do that XP can't? Besides, I'd have to go and buy a whole new computer to use it. It's supposed to take a ton of processing power.
The proper installation of Vista in my humble opinion. I'm not going to even bother installing that piece of junk - all it brings to the table ends up being essentially a waste of space and processor ticks(the security updates are of no matter - they'll be breached in a matter of time, and not patched soon enough). I'm just going to run all my applications through WINE when Slackware finally comes out with a 64-bit version just to escape the bloat.
Ya i will eventuallly get windows vista. i heard that they had some security problems, so im going to wait a while before i upgrade. it looks really nice from those pictures. ill probably do it sometime soon.
This is not a Win/Linux/Mac dispute, rather pointing out a few minor things that I find really
annoying in Windows OS and I'd rather change if I had the chance/knowledge (disclaimer: I mainly
refer to winxp but I've used almost all other versions, I have some experience with Linux and
almost never used a Mac OS) copying/moving files: ever tried to copy a folder containing one or
more corrupted files? if I were the OS I'd just skip those and copy the good ones, then prompt a
message "file x, y, z were not copied we're sorry for the inconvenience caused".....
Has anyone actually been satisfied with the release of SP1 for Vista? Does it solve the problems
that we've all griped about? Overview of Windows Vista SP1 From what I'm reading
from that document, I'm actually surprised, appalled, and in a way, now wondering if Vista can
actually be an upgrade. I laughed at: QUOTE Enhances support for high-definition (HD)
drives by adding new icons and labels that identify HD-DVD and Blu-ray drives as HD drives.
That's awesome. I never knew the HD drive that I bought was an HD until SP1. /rolleye....

I hear a lot of people talk about how bad Vista is, and how its gltichy and buggy and programs dont
work... But can somebody please go into detail? Ive been using Vista for almost a year and I havent
had any problems of the sort. In fact, I prefer it over my xp. Could it be that those who havent
tried it personally, don't like it? They have just heard horror stories? Or is it that somebody
had a bad experience and then spreads those stories until it gets to the point where some people
think vista doesnt even run properly? Vista came built on my laptop, then I swapp....
Well I have been thinking about building a new gaming rig pretty soon and I will be able to spend a
bit more than usual because I already have the essentials( Mouse, Keyboard, Printer, Monitor) but I
have a questions about Vista. I have a nice HP dv9000 laptop that I have had for a couple months
that came with Windows Vista Home Premium. Now what I want to know is there anyway that I can
somehow get that onto a new machine I build as long as I take it off the laptop? I mean I bought the
laptop and if it comes with Vista, or any OS for that matter, I am purchasing the li....

Well after a week delay because of some conflict Microsoft finally releases XP SP3, and at a
whopping 342MB plan to wait awhile to get this bad boy downloaded. I had downloaded it from another
site, legally of course and to be honest I did not see any improvement whatsoever on my computer,
and so if you don't care one way or another about it make sure to disable your automatic updates
or deselect it from the options when you want to update your computer. That is my experience with
SP3 it wasn't to earth shattering but who knows for those with older computers it....
Iam the user of Windows Vista. I gone with Vista because of unavailability of other options. Windows

I found this interesting article the other day and I was looking at the programs that were mentioned
and I have to say that some of them I agree with and some I disagree with, and I try to explain what
I like and don't like. QUOTE 1. Expose Available on: Mac It's an elegantly simple
idea, and it has been available on the Mac since 2003. When you want a clear view of all the
application windows that are open at any one time, you just press F3, and a ittle feature called
Expose arranges them all as thumbnails spread neatly across your screen. Click one, ....
Well, a new Windows has been announced. This is going to be the one after Vista. The name Windows

are your guys views on this? What features do you want to see added to Windows 7 or removed from

I've heard this: Windows Vista is more Invulnerable to viruses, trojans, hacks, and more. And
I've heard this one: Windows Vista is not compatible on most Hardwares and softwares, and
Windows Vista isn't more invulnerable to viruses. Which one is right..? Thanks for your
postings....
I know there's an option in Ubuntu to change all the font sizes of the general system, the

I'm currently saving up for a laptop for several purposes. One of these is gaming and another is

C:\Windows\winsxs or Click My Computer > C:\\ > Windows > winsxs. For the few
vista users that are on here on the forum, do wonder why your hard driver seems to be shrinking even
though you know darn well all the stuff you have installed hasn't blown through gigs of space?
Well I did because at first I though it had to do with a memory issue that SP1 was suppose to fix,
but after running the Disk Analyzer to Glary Ultilities I finally found the culprit as why this was
happening. So after doing a little bit of research thanks to google I found s....
I believe everyone in this forum knows what a file system means and that every windows user knows
what FAT and NTFS means so I am not gonna start going into those. Well, the NTFS (Windows NT file
system) offers a few advantages over the good ol' FAT (File allocation table) file system one of
which is the files and folders compression. This I have done quite a number of times to save disc
space (and it really does save some disc space). i am using my computer as an example here. Consider
my 35GB partition which is carrying my Windows Vista Operating sys and has less ....
How to install Microsoft Windows XP automatically As you know, during installing Microsoft
Windows XP, setup asks you several questions about your installation drive, windows serial number,
your language, administrator password, local time zone and … . So that you should sit and answer
above questions. But there is a small tool in Microsoft Windows CD , let's you answer these
questions before installing Windows. 1- Put Windows XP CD/DVD in the CD/DVD in your CD/DVD ROM and
go to following folder: X:\Support\tools\ 2- Copy deploy.cab in your Hard Dr....

Ok, so I've done some looking around trying to see if it's possible I could dual-boot my pc
with Windows XP Home and Vista Ultimate Edition (x64). Well, I know it's possible, but I'm
not understanding many guides I read because many people have mentioned assorted stuff like
requiring two hard drives (I only have one 250GB one), and other assorted stuff like software
I'd need to supply certain space to the two separate partitions. I was thinking of making my
Windows XP be more of the serious partition, and having Vista be the more media-centered one, ....
Before i start i want to make sure you understand this is not a what OS is better this is a what is
better at certain things and your reasons why. I would also like to know more about Linux because
i'm slightly confused on it. Will it mess my computer up if i install it, dont like it, and
uninstall it? OK on with the topic. I own a Mac and work on one for many hours a day, but had
always used a Windows based system since well i was 5 and i remember my father using DOS to run Duke
Nukem haha. So i know my way around it. Here is my Pros and Cons list Windows: Pros....
