Windows Vista: The Next Os? - Will it be?

Sinari
My computer sadly will never see Windows Vista because of a lack of memory but it sounds like a really cool thing! It sounds like it would take a while to get used to but in the end it could be interesting and could actually make using the computer enjoyable again...

each time more based on image and less in real usability.

So so true. If i hadnt heard things about Vista locking the hard drives and its possible links to trusted computing then i might of considered it, Though IE7 would have been out straight away. I think XP is the last ever version of windows my laptop will ever see providing i can get linux to use my screen properly. From what ive heard there are a lot of new thnigs that you wont see, and not a single one of them will be good. And im sure itll cost abut £150 for a peice of software which is stupidity. If the price was about £40-£50 then i might consider it, and if it didnt have links with trusted computing and encrypting my hard drive then i would probably give it the benefit of the doubt but now its too far gone.

Although i do like the graphical interfaces of windows i dont like what goes on behind closed doors. I think Vista will have a great GUI as MS have got their finger on a good GUI for their operating systems lately but i doubt ill get Vista, although i did like the possiblilty of using flash USB drives as extra RAM, not sure how well it would work though or even if its still planned for vista, i know in the days it was called longhorn it was planned but i dont know about now.

I have seen this os in action before because of the computer technician class that i am attending at itt is now experimenting with. I believe that the some of the new games coming out (oblivion) for the pc are going to make it mandatory that you have this os installed for it to play properly. I am guessing that there is something that it must have in order to let it play the game better. Although we have a beta verison of it at our shop, i havent really gotten in close contact with it so i cant really say much about it yet. Hopefully it will be released soon, because i was already trying to find alternatives to windows after it having so many problems.

I will let you know if i hear anything that happens or if i finally get a chance to use it in person. Does anyone know when this is suppose to be released or what progress they have made on it?

I think that Window’s Vista is being overrated; yes the jump from 98 to 2000 was a big leap forward. But from what I have heard, Vista isn’t going to be much different than XP, new look, some tweaks here and there. This however conflicts with the fact that Microsoft had to push the release day later because of complications with their staff. Apparently they had too many people working and had no organization. If this is true, then it must be something extremely different from XP.

well, its going to supposrt Direct X 10, so thats a reason to buy it/upgrade if your a gamer tongue.gif
Also the game library will make gaming more organised . . . .
If i get an extra gig of ram i might aswell upgrade. The GUI is more than that tho, it will have some added functionality.
i'm not blown away by Vista, but not dissapointed either.

Pardon Me in my skepticism. Yes I like Windows and have used it throughout my time on the internet. However I got to say no matter how many differant upgrades you make with windows it always has bugs and at some point after running it for a long time it gives you the blue screen of death. Yes I am aware that there are actually people out there that might actually never have problems with windows and love it alot. I have to say that I loved windows for a long time too. However after a long battle with my old computer I found that when I moved over to Linux I had way less freezing problems as well as crashing problems. Sure I have other issues like compatability. But There are ways around that. I am pretty sure that when I get a new computer I will probably go with Windows to give it another chance but until then I am sticking to Linux for the time being.

QUOTE(JC05 @ May 26 2006, 02:15 PM) *

I have heard and seen some pictures of this new OS. It is going to be so totaly awesom! I want one when it comes out. but i have a feeling that Vista is going to be more than XP was when it first came out. The new features, the awesome looks, and all the new software that it comes with. I'm drooling! I think that all the computers that have XP will drop in price a lot when Vista come out. I can't wait!

I am positive that Vista will have the new Aero theme in time for its holiday season release, as well as the Gadgets and defenitely IE7. It's nice to see that Micro$oft decided to put tabs into IE (finally). But I wouldn't think that Vista will be significantly cheaper - especially the higher end ersions, like Vista Ultimate (or whaever the heck they call it).
