I first saw Longorn in october 2003, and it was pre-alpha release... Truth be told, I was very dissapointed with it. It was in NO way different than XP, except for some weird star where Windows logo now is, in Windows explorer and IE, and hiddious huge analog clock... I know it was a pre-alpha, but I expected a little more... something I won't be switching from XP Pro, 'cause it works fine to me... And if something works, don't change it!

I dun like Windows Longhorn, it's gonna be so pumped up that it requires a 2.6 GHZ minimum hardware and like 5 GB of storage space. For most of us, why should we shell out extra money on this proprietory crap? xboxrulz

You can find many articles and screenshots of beta versions of Microsoft Windows codename Longhorn here: www.winsupersite.com Anyway, Microsoft said that it will focus on using the graphic card resources more than ever to make a very exciting and functional interface, so if you want to run Longhorn, you better have at least 32mb of video memory available. But I still hope that the final build of Longhorn will be able to run on slower machines... Not everybody has the money to buy a new PC every time a new Windows OS version comes along...

QUOTE(crakersiak @ Mar 13 2005, 09:49 PM) is ok longhorn Ok that is very close to a spam crakersiak, please post with a sentance with proper grammar... it should have been - "Longhorn is ok " still that doesnt express enough opinion. Anyways back to longhorn i have just looked at the screenshots on this website: http://www.activewin.com/screenshots/longhorn/ And from what i see it doesn't seem very different, i mean you can do most of that by customizing your windows desktop. but if they release a new windows i will probably go get it.

Windows Longhorn isn't ready to be released yet, as it need superior graphic cards just for the operation system. Also rumor has it that when it is released, both the new graphics card is out and the terabyte hard drive which optimizes it's performance. For those of you that don't know what a Terabyte Hard Drive is, a THD is 1024 gigabytes on just one drive. Plus it will most likely need the new celeron chips as they are faster. I know all this because i got the 4074 release and the graphics took up all my Virtual Memory. It mainly Windows XP with a better interface and graphics. The rumored realese date was this year. But Microsoft says that it wil most likely come out in 2007, hinting also when the terabyte hard drive will come out.

Personally I think windows longhorn is going to be even more like mac os x was last year, you might aswell just mac os x. but i can understand why some people would rather stick with windows cus of the 40,000 apps (most of which are spyware) n all. and i havn't actually tried longhorn but it doesn't sound all that great to me, i have also heard that longhorn will be the product which the antichrist bill gates will destroy all with.. but that might not be true. lol

I tried a version of Longhorn that was leaked online a while ago build 4074 I think. I didn't like it because it did not detect my harware properly and drivers for it are so far non-existant. You can't use XP drivers, but I had some success with win2k drivers. Funny thing is win2k and XP are supposed to use the same type of drivers. I think Longhorn will look like XP generaly but act more like win2k. I hate win2k by the way. I will not switch until longhorn is released and they get to sp2 or 3 then I'll try it again.

Its memory hungry, im pretty shure its gonna require the 64 bit processors, although it will still run on 32, i know that b/c i have used a copy of longhorn allready and all i have is a 32 bit. Anyways, it will come out sometime next year, at least thats what they say...They will probably will keep coming out with new versions for Developers, MSDN forums have a lot of answers. It supposed to be really secure for users and for the connections online, "good" firewall (128 bit encryption when connected to the internet). I dont know if they are still coming out with a different file system, b/c it was going to take really long. I am excited to see what the final product is going to look like. ps. Read the MSDN forums.

i'd give it a while to get all the kinks ironed out. Micro$oft does their beta testing on consumers, that's what i dislike most about Windows. i'll probably give it at least 6 months or so before i shell out whatever hardware i'd need to upgrade to, to get it to run properly with Longhorn
