You only have eight to choose from: Windows Starter 2007, Windows Vista Home Basic, Windows Vista Home Basic N, Windows Vista Home Premium, Windows Vista Business, Windows Vista Business N, Windows Vista Enterprise, and Windows Vista Ultimate.
I pity those who end up with Windows Starter 2007:
QUOTE
This edition does not include the Aero graphical user interface, hence it’s not Vista-branded. And there’s no 64-bit edition, no networking, no Fast User Switching, no DVD Authoring, no gaming common controller support, and no image editing with enhanced touchup, and only three applications/windows are allowed to run simultaneously. Good only for really basic users with low budgets.
Actually that bolded part kind of sounds like windows now.
Windows Vista Ultimate - This one is going to be the most expensive, most feature-packed, and perhaps the most pirated edition of Vista. It’ll include new and unique features such as Game Performance Tweaker, Podcast creation utility, online “Club” services and privileged product support. This edition will be perfect for Windows fanboys.
well one i have vist beta right now my dads on the msdn and he got it and is lettin me try it out cause im the adventurous one that dosnt need stability lol.. i reload windows evey couple weeks lol... always doing something to try and make it better and it stoves up so hes like meh here have this and i use it now its not much diffrent from xp... lol its got a nicer apearence but same functionality nothing really worth in it...
its got a kinda mac feel to it in a way just standard install you can pretty much do the same thigns with it but thats all i can tell you atm for its all i no...

Theyre actually limiting the amount of applications running to three? That is the most rediculous thing i've ever heard.
That is the biggest invitation to cracking the OS that i have seen, and no doubt it will be remarkably easy to do. If anyone pays for that piece of crap, they deserve to have their computers blown up.
I'd probably stick with Windows XP, but Microsoft will pull the plug on support and new software will supposedly be made for Vista only. Having 8 different versions of Windows is going just a little bit overboard really, as for most there was an obvious choice of either home or professional, but now it has just got ridiculous. Also, is there any indication of price yet?

That is EXTREMELY limited. Three applications: Internet Explorer Itunes (music) Notepad for taking notes. These are all very light applications, easy on the computer, and yet they would still be restricted. Still, I want to finally see Windows Vista, as they have kept pushing it back. Taking a look at the new Internet Explorer you can expect some changes in appearence and function, but will it just be a copy of the features found in pre-existing applications (mac os, linux) or something better?
After seeing all of this I am not going to get a single version of Windows Vista. It seems that Microsoft is trying harder and harder to make a lot more money off of a single operating system. With Windows XP having two editions that is fine but seven is getting way too greedy. I am going to stick with XP or switch to a different OS unless this is a rumor.

There's a light version of Windows XP in Asian countries and I believe it has the limit of running 3 applications simultaneously. It also has a limit on the display resolution. It's cheaper than XP Home and was designed to prevent software piracy which is high in those areas.
When I buy Vista (which won't be untill at least one year after it has been released) I will probably buy Home Premium. Ultimate will have loads of features I'll never use, and it would be pointless for me to waste my money on it.
At first i thought it was weird having different versions of the new Windows Vista or are they going to change the name again? lol. I'm proabbly gonna go with the basic one. The ones that are like installed on all manufactured computers and i bet it will be the basic one. duhhh... obviously. lol I can't imagine having only three windows open. HOw can i be able to multitask when i can only tri-task stuff. That sucks..
I will definately get Windows Vista Ultimate as I don't want to miss out on any of the features, I think they have gone over the top with 8 versions though. I may leave it a few months before I get Vista though so that I can see what happens with the security and see whether it really has improved.
I always believe in the best.. So i believe if i get any other version other than Vista Ultimate i might just miss some new feature provided by Windows Vista.. and i dont want that to happen... I would really Go for Vista Ultimate
There are so many names! Windows XP only has 3, but now they come up with so many! I'll choose the Home one probably.
Actually, there are more than three:
QUOTE
-Windows XP Home Edition - XP Professional -XP Tablet PC Edition -XP Media Center Edition
And probably more in addition.
I probably would want Windows Vista Business. It's the most similar to XP Pro, which I use and could possibly support in a business environment. It has Aero, which I sort of like, and all the other mouth-watering features I would ever need. I would perfer it because I want more fine-grained control over my system (security, policies, and other stuff), whcih the lesser versions probably don't provide.
My uncel once told me that Microsoft were greedy and evil. Well now that I know that Microsoft is making so many versions I totaly agree with him! By the way which Linus OS do you think i sould get lol.
How to install Microsoft Windows XP automatically As you know, during installing Microsoft
Windows XP, setup asks you several questions about your installation drive, windows serial number,
your language, administrator password, local time zone and … . So that you should sit and answer
above questions. But there is a small tool in Microsoft Windows CD , let's you answer these
questions before installing Windows. 1- Put Windows XP CD/DVD in the CD/DVD in your CD/DVD ROM and
go to following folder: X:\Support\tools\ 2- Copy deploy.cab in your Hard Dr...
Windows Vista Sp1
- Does it make Vista a viable OS to upgrade to? (1)
Has anyone actually been satisfied with the release of SP1 for Vista? Does it solve the problems
that we've all griped about? Overview of Windows Vista SP1 From what I'm reading
from that document, I'm actually surprised, appalled, and in a way, now wondering if Vista can
actually be an upgrade. I laughed at: QUOTE Enhances support for high-definition (HD)
drives by adding new icons and labels that identify HD-DVD and Blu-ray drives as HD drives.
That's awesome. I never knew the HD drive that I bought was an HD until SP1. /rolleye...
Well, a new Windows has been announced. This is going to be the one after Vista. The name Windows
Seven is only a codename for it as it has not yet been decided upon a name for this new operating
system. A screenshot of Windows 7 Milestone 1 Build 6519: Source:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows_7 This windows definitely be better then Windows Vista. What
are your guys views on this? What features do you want to see added to Windows 7 or removed from
Vista....
Which do you think is better XP or Vista or Linux. I am constantly switching back and fourth and
cant stick with either. vist has some pretty cool features but Xp has about twice the amount of
performance....
I'm currently saving up for a laptop for several purposes. One of these is gaming and another is
graphics. I can't decide whether to go used and get XP or new with Vista. The main games
I'll be playing are Guild Wars and Halo. I have heard that Vista is horrible and eats up a
crapload of memory. Well what should I do....
This is not a Win/Linux/Mac dispute, rather pointing out a few minor things that I find really
annoying in Windows OS and I'd rather change if I had the chance/knowledge (disclaimer: I mainly
refer to winxp but I've used almost all other versions, I have some experience with Linux and
almost never used a Mac OS) copying/moving files: ever tried to copy a folder containing one or
more corrupted files? if I were the OS I'd just skip those and copy the good ones, then prompt a
message "file x, y, z were not copied we're sorry for the inconvenience caused"....

Ok, so I've done some looking around trying to see if it's possible I could dual-boot my pc
with Windows XP Home and Vista Ultimate Edition (x64). Well, I know it's possible, but I'm
not understanding many guides I read because many people have mentioned assorted stuff like
requiring two hard drives (I only have one 250GB one), and other assorted stuff like software
I'd need to supply certain space to the two separate partitions. I was thinking of making my
Windows XP be more of the serious partition, and having Vista be the more media-centered one, ...

I hear a lot of people talk about how bad Vista is, and how its gltichy and buggy and programs dont
work... But can somebody please go into detail? Ive been using Vista for almost a year and I havent
had any problems of the sort. In fact, I prefer it over my xp. Could it be that those who havent
tried it personally, don't like it? They have just heard horror stories? Or is it that somebody
had a bad experience and then spreads those stories until it gets to the point where some people
think vista doesnt even run properly? Vista came built on my laptop, then I swapp...
I've heard this: Windows Vista is more Invulnerable to viruses, trojans, hacks, and more. And
I've heard this one: Windows Vista is not compatible on most Hardwares and softwares, and
Windows Vista isn't more invulnerable to viruses. Which one is right..? Thanks for your
postings...
I believe everyone in this forum knows what a file system means and that every windows user knows
what FAT and NTFS means so I am not gonna start going into those. Well, the NTFS (Windows NT file
system) offers a few advantages over the good ol' FAT (File allocation table) file system one of
which is the files and folders compression. This I have done quite a number of times to save disc
space (and it really does save some disc space). i am using my computer as an example here. Consider
my 35GB partition which is carrying my Windows Vista Operating sys and has less ...
Can anyone in this forum tell me the transition of microsoft windows since 98. I've been arguing

Before i start i want to make sure you understand this is not a what OS is better this is a what is
better at certain things and your reasons why. I would also like to know more about Linux because
i'm slightly confused on it. Will it mess my computer up if i install it, dont like it, and
uninstall it? OK on with the topic. I own a Mac and work on one for many hours a day, but had
always used a Windows based system since well i was 5 and i remember my father using DOS to run Duke

vista users that are on here on the forum, do wonder why your hard driver seems to be shrinking even
though you know darn well all the stuff you have installed hasn't blown through gigs of space?
Well I did because at first I though it had to do with a memory issue that SP1 was suppose to fix,
but after running the Disk Analyzer to Glary Ultilities I finally found the culprit as why this was
happening. So after doing a little bit of research thanks to google I found s...

Well I have been thinking about building a new gaming rig pretty soon and I will be able to spend a
bit more than usual because I already have the essentials( Mouse, Keyboard, Printer, Monitor) but I
have a questions about Vista. I have a nice HP dv9000 laptop that I have had for a couple months
that came with Windows Vista Home Premium. Now what I want to know is there anyway that I can
somehow get that onto a new machine I build as long as I take it off the laptop? I mean I bought the
laptop and if it comes with Vista, or any OS for that matter, I am purchasing the li...

Well after a week delay because of some conflict Microsoft finally releases XP SP3, and at a
whopping 342MB plan to wait awhile to get this bad boy downloaded. I had downloaded it from another
site, legally of course and to be honest I did not see any improvement whatsoever on my computer,

or deselect it from the options when you want to update your computer. That is my experience with
