QUOTE(football123213 @ Jul 28 2004, 11:31 PM) What is faster DSL OR CABL WHAT DO U LIKE BETTER PUT IT HEAR On general terms and speed capibilities, Cable can reach way higher speeds than ADSL. However, ADSL is getting faster these days... But for a more all-rounded comparision, ADSL is more stable in terms of speed and is affected by network traffic to a lesser extent that cable. Cable is largely affected by network traffic and may experience speed swings. But I would say that on a nice day, with moderate network traffic, cable would beat ADSL anytime. -Shackman

It's much depend on your ISP. I have to use ADSL because they give no options.

I would have probably gone out for cable, except for a tiny technicality. My place is already saturated with cable subscribers all from the same company, and that means whatever speed benefits it offers, in the end we have to share the bandwidth amongst ourselves. So DSL is my choice.

well they are both equally first but the problem that gets to dsl is that its service is limited by the distance your house is from the communication station so in such cases cable might be faster but all in all they all deliver the same first service.

Cable is a lot more faster then DSL, but DSL is "online" a lot more - although I haven't had any problems with my cable ISP, Cox.

Well I have always been confused on the answer to this. The fact is that DSL is a \"direct\" line from the company. If you live close to the company then you are in luck, if you aren\'t then it is not a good option. Cable and broadband. I really don\'t know the difference I think they both use a cable line though. But with cable there are different speeds that can be purchased through your provider. Faster is more expensive of coarse. But if I were to chose between those two at their highest speed at the same distance from the company, that cable wins. I don\'t know this for sure though. Thanks for letting put my penny in.

You must not judge high-speed internet only by its transfer rate. For example, cable has a much slower ping then dsl and fiberwire, which can result in a bad online gaming experience even though you can pump the data through just fine.

Broadband In Gas
- Carrying internet over gas pipelines (5)
I recently read about a company called Nethercomm that is promoting a broadband in gas technology.
Apparently, this company has some patents pending on devices that can be installed in gas pipelines
that go to commercial and residential buildings to provide the "last mile" connection for broadband.
It appears the technology is based on radio frequencies propogated down the gas pipe as a wave
guide. Nethercomm boasts data rates up to 40 Mbps are possible to the home. Anyone know of any
actual implementation/trials of this technology going on presently?...

Ibm Promises 10 Times Faster Wifi
- operates at a clock speed of 60 GHZ at 630 Mbps (3)
QUOTE The chip is based on the evolving IEEE 802.15.3c specification for wireless
communication, which utilizes frequencies higher than the Wi-Fi or any other wireless standard. IBM
said that the chip operates at a clock speed of 60 GHZ , far faster than the standard 2.4 gigahertz
or 5 gigahertz speeds that WiFi wireless networking chips use today. In the lab, Gaucher said
IBM's prototype chip could transfer data at 630 Mbps , and could improve in a few years to
anywhere from 1 gigabit a second to 5 gigabits a second. Full article : http://www.cdrinfo.c...

Understanding Broadband
- are you ready to upgrade ? (1)
QUOTE In general, broadband refers to telecommunication in which a wide band of frequencies is
available to transmit information. Because a wide band of frequencies is available, information can
be multiplexed and sent on many different frequencies or channels within the band concurrently,
allowing more information to be transmitted in a given amount of time (much as more lanes on a
highway allow more cars to travel on it at the same time). Related terms are wideband (a synonym),
baseband (a one-channel band), and narrowband (sometimes meaning just wide enough to car...
