Which Classic Book Is Your Favorite?

I sometimes read classic novels and I like Gone with the Wind most entertaining as I could imagine about what the world was a like more than 100 years ago. Life was so simple and apart from wars, they led simple life style.

What is your favourite classic book?

I do like the book David Copperfield, by Charles Dickens, although I do not like it with to intense a passion. I do, in general, like classic books better than these modern-day fangirl-driven books that are too easy to digest, very much like cheese, if you'd pardon the pun.

Ah, I also remembered reading a Tom Sawyer book when I was a kid but I didn't understand a single word of it back then. I did, however, find me a copy of Mark Twain's Huckleberry Finn and I did enjoy it.

I've just finished reading Robert Louis Stevenson's Treasure Island and I can't quite describe how I felt cheated by Disney's movie, Pirates of the Carribean, again, my apologies for the pun. I've started reading on his other works; I've borrowed an old, brown, fragile and thick copy of his works from the library. Hopefully, it will tide me over through Christmas break happy.gif

I loved Gone With The Wind but I don't think I would call it a classic; classic to me includes Robert Louis Stevenson, Charles Dickens, Victor Hugo, Jules Verne, and Oscar Wilde, all of whom I love. In terms of the film industry, Gone With The Wind would indeed be a classic, but in terms of literature, even the ones I mentioned are more recent than works of older authors. Oh wait, we can't forget Twain, Cooper, and Dumas!

Over all, though, I think my favorite is either 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea or The Hunchback Of Notre Dame and Les Miserables. I seem to like my French authors!

I don't know if I have a favorite "classic" book, but - to keep with the "favorite" part of the topic (LOL) - I've always adored Laura Ingalls Wilder's "Little House on the Prairie" books and I love "Charlotte's Web" wink.gif

Ahh.. classic books. biggrin.gif Things that come to mind would be "David Copperfield" by Charles Dickens, "War of the Worlds" by HG Wells, "Around the World in 80 Days", "20,000 Leagues Under the Sea", "Journey to the Center of the Earth" by Jules Verne... Well... basically anything by Jules Verne... happy.gif; I love his books. Oh, and "Charlotte's Web". It was the first book that made me cry so bad... dry.gif

My favorite classic book of all time was Winne the pooh, as a kid I would read it to mother (aaaaw). Although I can't really get into the classic anymore, most likely the lack of time to read them. I still like to talk about them from time to time.

Same here!! LOL I first read it in elementry school (along with "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory") and it was the first book to ever make me bawl like a baby! Such a great book - can't wait to see the latest film! laugh.gif

I am a philosophy major, and my favorite classics in that genre of literature are Plato's "Republic" and David Hume's "Dialogues Concerning Natural Religion."

However, whenever it comes to reading for pleasure, I would have to give the nod to the Lord of the Rings trilogy. I picked up the Fellowing of the Ring in seventh grade, and it was the only book that I ever remember reading where I literally could not put it down. I think it only took me a few days to read it, and I read the other two parts of the trilogy shortly thereafter.

I dont have a particular book per se, but I would say my favorite classic literature would be Poe.
As far as philosophy is concerned, I appreciate the clarity of Thomas Paine's argument for deism in The Age of Reason; and yes, I enjoyed reading it too. smile.gif

I prefer classics with some spunk, like A Flew over the Cukoo's Next, Catch 22, and Catcher in the Rye. They all deal with insanity, redundant laws, maturing, all back in the days where this stuff was alot more taboo.

Mine favourites are the Aghata Christie's books. They are all interesting, and when you start to read, you couldn't get away from the book tongue.gif

From her books, mine most favs are: Death Near Nile (<LoL<That's the book), Ten Small Negroes, The Heroisms of Erquil Poaro... And much more smile.gif

Good question. I konw they've had the topic of favorite book but I didn't even begin to think about classic books. I guess you could say that my favorite classic book is to kill a mockingbird. It's just an amazing story that really stood out to me. I enjoyed it a lot and learned a ton of stuff about racism and unfairness. The characters were all playing this book out in my mind as I read. Really good book.....good movie too.

I don't know if it counts but what about "Lord of the Flies"? That's a classic IMO and definitely shows a lot about society and personal behaviors. The idea of kids living alone on an island trying to make the perfect community is such an odd one.....but it's so entertaining. It definitely reflects problems in normal day societies.

my favorite is les miserables by victor hugo. though i read the abridged version. hehe. its the only classic book that i actually finished and liked. how sad.

A classic book, that makes me feel warm, is the wonderful
novel written by Michelle Magorian, Goodnight Mister Tom.
Its a masterpiece about loneliness, friendship, loss and love.
It's a book for all ages, and my favourite one.

My second choice would be The Shadow of the Wind written
by Carlos Ruiz Zafón. It's also a masterpiece, and skillfully
written novel. I read the first chapter or two and was
completly swallowed up by the story, and I couldn't stop
reading before I reached the last page.

    Heres mine =) TATER TOT HOTDISH Ingredients. A bag of tator tots. 2 cans of cream of mushroom
    soup (any cream soup can be substituted for optional flavor) 2 lb. of ground beef 1 can of corn (or
    any other desired vegetable(s)) Instructions. Cook the hamburger and strain the fat. Spread the
    hamburger into a baking dish then pour the soup and can of vegetables over. Stir until mixed well.
    Cover the mixture with tator tots and Bake for the amount of time it says for the tator tots to get
    done and add 5 minutes. (or until mixture is boiling and tator tots are crisped.)....

    I was just wondering what were some of the top favored games for the playstation 2. I liked the
    Ratchet and clank series, jak and daxter series, i liked the first kingdom hearts (havent played the

    Well, the last book (or at least I'm assuming it will be the last) came out just about a week
    ago. So far I have read about half of it and I must say it is very good. It's sad to see that
    this will be the last one in the series. The Series of Unfortunate Events are one of the best series
    ever. Hopefully Lemony Snicket comes out with something else. Anyways, I reccomend reading this
    book, so far its good.....

    Whats your fav gun? Mines m4 but i think the ak is better since its easier to shoot on target from
    range. eg from long A down to A. I think most will like the ak then the m4 and a couple the deagle?
    what you think to that? m4 is a good "allrounder" if you ask me. its doesnt take tons of experience
    and doesnt spray as much as the ak but the ak is more acturate. ps. i have seen the topic further

    fattening like Fast food, but well when I'm hungry I'd eat anything, snaks are the worst,
    specially if there's cheese around...I like Italian alot I make pizza all the time, in fact last
    night I made two and they were pretty good. I like Japanese, because I like fish a lot too, Indian
    haven't had a lot so I'm not sure. The healthiest I thinks is, make your own with a little
