I have used Joomla in the past and preferred their software over VBulletin any day. However, Joomla is a content management system, used for building websites from scratch using modules. VBulleting is just a message board system and as many other members have said, you cannot build a website with VBulletin. Well Joomla and vbulletin are totally different. Joomla is an open source content management system, while vbulletin is an internet forum software. Joomla though is free, and vbulletin you need to buy a license for. You actually could use both, as Joomla could be used for your homepage, while vbulletin could be your community. Though, I am not sure how willing you are to pay a $160 license.

if you do use both be sure to research their compatibility together. you don't want your users to have to make two accounts just to use your website completely

Like bk2070 said, you might want to consider a combination of a website and forum. A lot of top sites now recognize that forums with more features are becoming popular. More and more sites are beginning to use forums as just one of many features, even if that is the main feature; and integrate in other features like blogs, games, polls, picture galleries, chat rooms, etc. More and more sites are popping up whose primary purpose is to provide site features for website users that can be easily placed on a website or forum.

i think that you would do good with mkportal, as it can be combined with almost any forum software out there, i know it supports atleast 4 different forums, and if you decided to go with joomla there is an add on forum script that you can get right off of there site.

I'm not sure exactly what you are looking for, but spruz.com might be the place you can find it.

There freewebbing is very generous and their paid hosting is exaclty what you paid for.

You may want to look up Invision Power Board and Subdreamer. The two software go together perfectly. Subdreamer can go with almost any other popular forum software as well, infact I think that's what it is designed for originally.

Although this topic is not about a community combined with a content management system. For a community, you dont want to use joomla. VBulletin is forum software which allows your users to interact with each other. It's possible with Joomla but VBulletin is much more efficient. Invision Power Board is also popular community software. Some people prefer IPB, some prefer VB.

If you want to earn money with it, I think choosing software shouldn't be your top priority. You have to create an active and attractive site.

I recommend you use Joomla as your content management system and integrate either VBulletin or PHPBB3 (My Recommendation). However, I recommend you use VBulletin 1.5 instead of 1.0. Joomla uses modules which allow you to add dynamic web programming with ease. Now some modules are free while others will cost money. But, you will can build an awesome site with many of the free modules and with some HTTP,XML, CSS experience.

Joomla is a Content Management System, that means you can create websites with it and have forums, blogs, galleries and other sections to it.

Whereas vBullitein is a Messaging Board or Forum. It cannot be used as a full fledged website.

You can integrate Joomla and vBulltein

Actually Invision Power Board or IPB is a based on vBulltein. It is a good software and has a lot of plugins and modules. But it is a paid software. If you need a free alternative go for phpBB 3 or SMF.

You can also consider phpbb forum software available http://www.phpbb.com/downloads/?sid=c6164d...d31ea429ea27eb5.

It is also very good and i have been using it for few days now.... Also its free of cost, so you might consider it for some normal usage... If you are looking for more support and other stuff you should probably go for other paid forum softwares....

Communication is the process of sending and receiving messages. However, communication is effective only when the message is understood and it stimulates or encourages the receiver to think in new ways. Your ability to communicate effectively increases productivity, both yours and your organization’s. With good communication skills, you can anticipate problems, make decisions, coordinate work flow, supervise others, develop relationships, and promote products and services. You can shape the impressions you and your company make on colleagues, employees, investors and customers.
