RSS allows users to subscribe to the websites cotent (if the website offers rss feed) which can be viewed through a RSS software. There are browsers which can read rss (such as firefox). also there are websites that can read rss feeds (such my yahoo).
example, a rss feed of news website would list all the headlines and when you click it, it will take you to the site.
RSS (Really Simple Syndication) feeds grab the latest content from a site and then display that to the user without them needing to actually open up the site. It also allows people to get items as they happen, rather than checking every few hours. For this reason, people often use them to get breaking news stories.
For example, here are the feeds I have in my web browser: ![]() When new information is posted on any of the sites, it appears here within a few minutes, along with links to the site and specific item the news relates to.
it's basically just an xml file following a specific DTD (i.e. format)
So for example, if you have an rss reader (called a feed reader) in your computer, and you're connected to the net. your rss reader would simply check for updates every now & then from your rss sources
Thanks, I really needed information about this... I saw it and I knew more or less what it was but not completely. It can be used in forums I think ¿maybe also here in trap17?. Somobody posted long ago a RSS reader that google has. It´s funny that it attends to "Really Simple Syndication", which doesn´t sound too technic, like most terms like this.
Now what I don´t really know is what is exactly XML.
RSS is a news syndicating script. It is prevalent on news websites and personal weblogs. Your page is set up into different tables and the code is in a certain format. the format allows programs to be used to recognoze that the designated space has been changed.
The programs are news aggregators and like i said baove are prevalent on blogs. There are apparently 6 different rss codings
This is very useful especially if you have visitors who are too busy. This rss feeds is a very interesting component. I tried going to http://darran.trap17.com/feed and it gives me an xml document, I presume this is the rss feed you are talking about? Other than using a rss reader, is it possible for any user to subscribe to the site's rss feed? At the moment, I am trying to test it out with a rss reader which I downloaded from http://www.rssreader.com/download.htm
