I have dual boot between Windows XP and Fedora Core. I also like Suse.

I've tried Windows Vista and its one of the worst OS's I've used, it reminds me of Windows ME.

I wonder what windows 7 (Codename: Blackcomb and later Vienna) will be like?

Windows XP 64-bit previously and later switch to 32-bit. I have Windows Vista and OS X 10.5 dual boot on a Mac Pro.

Windows Vista isnt that bad but some of the features annoys me and the WGA pissed me off.

Oh no not another Operating system battle topic, anyway, on my laptop I have a XP/Unbuntu laptop and on the destop I have just have vista. Although that was going to be my ubuntu dual boot, but after some accidents and installations I moved it to my laptop instead.

I am using Windows XP professional as my primary Operatin System.
I am using it since 2003. A very good operatin system.

i am using Ubuntu as my secondary operating system. Very nice and easy
linux OS.

Using these two in Dual Booting mode.

Also I am using Damn Small Linux and Some other linux OSs in VM Ware.
But not as regularly as WinXP and Ubuntu.

Not a battle topic, i sense. Unless someone start to create a war then that is a different story. So far it starts peacefully and hopefully no one break the truce.

lol Yeah, Lets hope it stays that way. I understand people have their diffrences when it comes to OS's, but we hear enough of it. I just wanted to see how many use the diffrent windows/linux comninations.

I use Gentoo with KDE 4.1. I don't dual boot, especially since i want this to be a Windows free environment, and everything i need all works on this operating system. I customized almost every aspect of my Linux set-up: from the kernel, to the framebuffer, etc. I learned a lot with this distribution.

I like to be different. biggrin.gif

My main operating system would be Windows Mobile 5, and I'm thinking of upgrading to WM6 at some time. Yeah, I'm an embedded systems type of guy. On the desktop I run a WinPE system, based on Windows XP Professional. What is WinPE? Have a look at my other thread for a good explanation. I own licenses and CALs for a variety of Micrsosoft client and server operating systems, but my OS of choice, other than WM5, would be Windows 2000 Professional. Or, at least, a Windows XP Professional installation stripped down to look and feel like Windows 2000 Professional. I don't need all the fancy whizz-bang eye-candy that comes with XP, and I am not touching Vista for a few more months yet. I don't like to be on the "bleeding edge" and never have done. Give me a Windows 2000 Pro client, (preferably with a Windows 2003 Server CAL and a beefy server box to connect to), along with a copy of Microsoft ActiveSync and my trusty Windows Mobile 5 based hardware any day and I'll be happy.

Sure, I'll probably make the step up to Vista one day, but I'm not rushing out to buy the latest gear to support it just yet.

I USE WINDOWS 98~!! nah...... I use Windows XP~!! =) It is better and faster than buggy Vista......Can't wait til Windows 7 comes out

It'd probably be even worse than Vista... Those Micro$oft guys never learn.

I use WinXp SP3 for gaming/study and the likes, however for programming and trying out stuff I use Gentoo Linux with VirtualBox onboard. Though, I still prefer Wine over VBox...
Yes, I know that Gentoo is for developers only, or for servers, so that they have better security. But systems bundled (is this the right word? plz correct me) with Gnome, KDE or xfce pull in a LOT of dependencies that cannot be solved by unchecking the needed components. OpenSuSE is prob the best one in this sense (I used SuSE 10.something, not the Open one yet), as the YaST manager checks for dependencies before the install.

Hell... that was a relatively short post.
Hi all!))

When it comes to security, which operating system would you think a business would get to keep

"Windows Users" will want to use Windows Server. I mean thats an ok OS to start out on but Unix is

I have a very irregular comic strip that I make, and I want my next strip to be in the spirit of

here, based on whether people think an operating system is better than Windows 2000 or not, which
I'm going to use as a benchmark (sea-level point) for rating systems. The rating system is on 3
axes, "usefulness", "reliability", and "security". Basically, for the poll, check which ones you
think are more useful than Windows 2000 on the first poll, which ones are more reliable ....

    linux operating system (47)
About three years ago I decided to learn how to use Linux and after a lot of posts on a forum I
tried Ubuntu Linux as it was recommended as a good first Linux distro. Ubuntu is not the easiest
Linux distro to use but with its unmatched forum community support it is one of the easiest to learn
to use. One of the problems with learning Linux is that a lot of users have an attitude that Linux
should be a free Windows knock off which it is not. Ubuntu is build on a Linix core or kernel and is
a different Open Source and free as in to use operating system. This brings us to t....

  9. Linux - Why It Fails As A Desktop Operating System?
    (34)
Linux is becoming such a craze nowadays that not even a single day passes without one or other
distribution releasing a new version. But why is it failing so miserably in the desktop arena. The
answer lies in three reasons. 1. The plethora of distributions -
Redhat,Debian,Ubuntu,Suse,Gentoo,Knoppix - everbody and his uncle is coming out with new ones. 2.
The lack of backward compatibility - I had Redhat 7.3 running. I upgraded to Redhat 9. Many
applications had to be recompiled. You ask my mom to recompile applications - She will throw out
Linux and take Windows anyday. ....

I think Linux sweeping the world was a bit of a premature prediction (what everyone in relatively
intellectual circles was saying in the late 90's and very early 2000's). Microsoft with a
true oligopoly that has crushed the chances of any third party OS, like BeOS, one of the most
promising OSes of the 90's IMHO. Linux and Unix really need a serious internal structural revamp
(like the NT system does of course), perhaps even a change to a server based OS; I guess that would
sort of be a total rewrite of all the code though Copied from "Olorix" on http://fo....
