| | Ha, I don't have any belt in martial arts, so I assume that pretty much any one of you could take me down, but,
I wonder, firstly, how long did you all have to train to become your rank?
Also, I assume that self-training is nearly impossible, isn't it? |

I was in karate for 4 years, i AM retired from karate though. I stopped going to class after i hit 1st degree black belt i used to be a student teacher but i felt that i wanted to do more then karate. i did enter a tournament once though! and i did win a few 1st place trophies and some second place medals. The reason why i was in karate was because my parents made me lol that and they wanted me to learn self-defense and discipline. but one day we were playing soccer with a tennis ball in the dojo and one of the instructors kick it so hard it hit me in the eye and i came home with a black eye. and my mom thought that someone punched me in the eye but my instructor that gave me the black eye i was a trooper and didn't cry though lmao. it hurt to even blink all the more cry lol. those were fun times.

I use to do kickboxing and I got to red belt which was the first one but i was due for a grading to get yellow belt but I stopped due to knee problems. Now I just workout in my garage doing a few round on the heavy bag and lifting weights. Hoping to get back in to martial arts though in the future.

Nabeel, you write: QUOTE in our system the belts go like: ... Could you expand on that a little bit please, as there are so many systems and quite a few of them are very similar.

Well, I don't think my martial art is as well known as Karate or Judo or anything, and it's only starting to get established in my country. The equivalent of it is Kendo in japanese martial arts. So what I do it called Haidong Gumdo, where we use a sword to fight. We learn forms and techniques, and things like that. One thing that it lacked from our masters teachings was more sparring though. Anyway, I have my Black Belt now, but I worked really hard for it. We had to learn how to blow out a candle with our sword, with just it's movement and not touching it. We had to know all our forms and things like that too. If I were to go for the next level, I would need to be able to cut a bamboo stick with a real sword. It was really fun, and I miss it, but I haven't practiced it for years now. I should start up again sometime!

That looks quite interesting. Where exactly does that martial art come from? Judging by its name it sounds a bit Vietnamese or Korean. Could you let me know, please?

yeah, very routine hehe, I like it too,so I don't think I'll be going back to karate anytime soon, I recently took up badminton and I like that as well as swimming, so I don't have much time for courses twice a week... jogging is good, its funny but I feel very....healthy,after jogging (after a shower too,of course)

Martial Arts Of Noobs
which one should i do? (19) I am getting out of high school and heading out to college. I have been wrestling for a long time
and have loved it, but I don't plan on wrestling in college. Rather than wrestling in college
what kind of martial art is out there that is fun to learn and will provide me with the same skills
as wrestling? I think martial arts is a fun thing to do. I have a friend that is a black belt, but
I could never be up to his skill.....
What Is Martial Arts Exactly?
Fighting, or anything? (2) I was looking through the topics in this section, and I saw yoga as a form of martial arts. And I
started to wonder what exactly martial arts was. I thought it was the art of fighting, or practicing
for fighting, or it at least had to have something to do with fighting. So how does yoga fit into
that? So, I was just wondering, does anyone have a concrete definition of martial arts? Does it
have to do with fighting, or just motion or something like that? /huh.gif"

Chinese Kenpo
Martial Arts (4) I have studied martial arts for self defense only. French Savate was too deadly to be
practical in anything but a fight to the death. Tae Kwon Do provided great exercise and could be
effectively used in a fight. Tae Kwon Do provides great tournaments. I was surprised how safe
tournament fighting was. Movies sensationalize to the max, of course. But, the best form that I
found for walking away, unscathed (without killing anyone) was Chinese Kenpo . My sefu (master) was
a total maniac, but the students were great! Has anyone studied an unusual fighting st....

Aikido
The Japanese Martial Art (2) Greetings, all. I was wondering if there is anyone in the community who is practicing, or is
considering practicing the Japanese martial art of Aikido. If so, is there anyone who would like to
share the techniques involved in it? From what I know, Aikido, unlike the other martial arts, is
more about channeling your opponent's energy against him/herself, rather than relying on a
full-out attack style (punching and kicking), like karate or judo. There's also an interesting
philosophy behind it, as well documented by the great teacher Morihei Ueshiba. So...from h....
How Do You Train For Your Martial Art, Sport?
What's Your Way? (15) Ok, so I was inspired to write this after a conversation with some fellow boxers from my local gym.
I would just out of interest like to find out how everybody trains, and if there is a trend between
the intensity of their training and their related sport. As a boxer, and also a martial artist I
have to say that I don't really follow a set program. I am very much one of the people that
prefer to just simply train and train, and not make any days off, or set programs, or easy shifts,
or 'rewinds' or what ever else the latest trend tends to be. I prefer to fo....
