The connection speed you can acquire is limited by money first, and then by power consumption, and then by available space. A single desktop computer probably can't get the full benefit of anything faster than, say, 100 megabits per second. One way you could experience that kind of speed in your home without laying new cables would be to use a thin client to connect to an off-site server in a server farm which had its own private internet backbone. Server farms like that are sure to have a nice fast connection - much faster that the average individual user needs or wants. On the more practical side, I have a friend who has cable and DSL, and is using both connections simultaneously. He is paying for it though, to the tune of about $70 per month if I remember correctly. The fastest internet connections worldwide are using fiber optic cables to transmit the data. If you are wealthy, and feel the need or want for an unnecessarily large data pipe, you could pay to have one of said optic cables installed up to your doorstep. But it would cost a lot of money. So, your limiting factors, in increasing order of difficulty, are money, power consumption, and available space. (If you took things to a theoretical extreme, you would reach a point where the information could not be processed fast enough with current technology, and until further advances developed, going faster would be meaningless.)

Rich Internet Application - Who Is Going To Win The Race?
(7) Last couple of months we can see the competition between 3 major Companies Adobe, Sun and Microsoft.
Everyone wants to win the race. They introduced 3 products to develop RIA (Rich Internet
Application). Flex - Adobe. Silverlight - Microsoft JavaFX - Sun Flex is already in Production,
they have released Flex 3.0 beta. Flex SDK is open source and Blaze Data Services (part of Flex
needed for Server side Programming) is open source. but Flex IDE and LifeCycle (Super Set of
BlazeDS) is not free. Silverlight and JavaFX is still under alpha release. I believe these three te....
Skunkworks Project(s): Aurora
In the 50's the SR-71 blackbird was the latest from Skunkworks... (0) ...and it can cruise at Mach 3.0+ at over 16 miles altitude. It still apparently holds the cross
Atlantic record of just under 2 hours from NYC to London and trans America in 64 minutes. Now some
50 years later, how much has technology advanced? Enough so that some of the new toys the boys in
blue are flying around are commonly mistaken for ET craft? What do you think Skunkworks is working
on now and do you believe there's a triangular craft out there piloted by U.S.A.F. (or allied)
personnel called the TR-3B or TR-3x? Have they finally worked out anti-gravity? Nuc....
Is It Possible To Destroy The Internet?
(99) I have always wondered if it is impossible to destroy the internet all together... is this even
possible? If it is possible to destroy the internet what would you have to do? Would you have to
destroy all the Internet companys like comcast and aol? Or would that not even take care of it?
Just think, if someone took down the entire internet not only would our lives be boring but it would
basically destroy the U.S. & other big countries all at once.....

Terabit Connection Is Possible?
(20) Kansai Electric company, the second largest electric suplier in Japan, managed to achieve amazing
terabit connection. This was achieved with the use of an optical cable. Kansai Electric used
fibre-optic cables on power-transmitting steel towers to achieve the speed of one terabit per
second, which is more than 100 times faster than inter-city data transmissions currently in use.
That means that you can transmit a DVD movie in one tenth of a second!!! The company,
Japan's second-largest power supplier, has not decided when to put the technology into prac....
Heard Of Oled?
latest visual technology (13) Hey guys have you heard about OLED? Organic Light-Emitting Diode (OLED) technology An OLED is
an electronic device made by placing a series of organic thin films between two conductors. When
electrical current is applied, a bright light is emitted. This process is called
electrophosphorescence. Even with the layered system, these systems are very thin, usually less than
500 nm (0.5 thousandths of a millimeter). When used to produce displays, OLED technology
produces self-luminous displays that do not require backlighting. These properties result in thin,

Skype Rule
Talk for free on the internet (7) This has been available for a while, but I only recently. This is a Voice over IP program that
allows you to talk to anyone on the internet anywhere provided they have the same program. The
software is free. The real amazing thing is the new feature you can now have real phone number. That
means someone can call you from a normal landline and you can call other landline numbers. They have
also just added the live video software also for free, so if you have a web cam you can see the
other person. I know, I know it is not all that new, but this is the first software that ....

Broadband In Gas
Carrying internet over gas pipelines (5) I recently read about a company called Nethercomm that is promoting a broadband in gas technology.
Apparently, this company has some patents pending on devices that can be installed in gas pipelines
that go to commercial and residential buildings to provide the "last mile" connection for broadband.
It appears the technology is based on radio frequencies propogated down the gas pipe as a wave
guide. Nethercomm boasts data rates up to 40 Mbps are possible to the home. Anyone know of any
actual implementation/trials of this technology going on presently?....
Internet Telephony - Any Experiences?
(10) I was wondering if anybody had any experience with internet telephony or voIP. I've tried Skype
with mixed results, and recently read an article about a number of fairly large companies who have
adopted it as a money saving venture. In the UK BT announced yesterday a new phone service whereby
when you take your phone outside your home it uses the Vodafone network, and when you use it at home
it automatically uses voIP over bradband. Sounds interesting.......

Internet Explorer.... With Tabs!
(22) Yes, it’s finally true. Stuck on like a big band aid, courtesy of MSN Toolbar 1.2, we have IE with
tabs. Well ahead of the release of Internet Explorer 7, Microsoft has done what they just absolutely
needed to do, and have provided tabbed browsing for Internet Explorer. Things are fairly undeveloped
at this stage, but reports talk about it running fast and supporting most features you'd want.
"It's a more powerful functionality in a pretty robust tool offering, which already has a
number of differentiators with form fill and the access to MSN services in the t....

erase ALL records of internet files (6) You might consider Webroot's Window Washer. It works with IE and AOL. Once you get off the net
it clears out all your internet activity, e.g. sites visited, temporary files, etc... then when it
completes it's 'wash' you just click to 'minimize' it so that it remains as an
active program. This will prevent someone else using your computer to find out what site's you
visited.. You may want to visit; www.webroot.com they have an array of products, and like anything
else everyone has their own opinion as to what works for them. I have Windows W....
Microsoft Confirmed IE7 Compatible with XP and newer
Internet Explorer 7 only for XP (26) Micrsoft confirmed what we've already expected. The new-coming explorer IE 7 will only be
compatible with windows XP and newer. The two reasons why old dinosaurs that still use Windows 2000
and lower won't be able to use the new IE are: 1. state in which is the extended support of
Windows 2000 and 2. mostly of technical nature (IE 7 is goin to have a few security updates and
imporvements, which bases on the functionality of the new XP SP2 and this is the reason for its
incompatibility with other versions of Windows) Source: Slashdot ....
Voip(voice Over Internet Protocol)
real money saver (16) VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) is the communication technology of the future for sure. Legacy
technology carries voice signals over analog circuits and lines. Voice over IP converts the analog
signal to digital and transports the signal to the receiver where it is converted back from digital
to analog and the receiver hears the sender's voice. This provides a more efficient and
economical means of communication. I have know VOIP for quite a some time since i started online.
Most of the time i use msn messeger or yahoo messeger to chat with my friends. Recently,....
New Connection Speed For Uk Users - 8mb/15mb
How fast is too fast (4) Slow start to speedy net services Service providers are in a race to be the fastest Faster
broadband in the UK is becoming a reality as more internet providers offer super-fast services. Some
lucky Britons can already take advantage of UK Online's 8 megabits per second service, which was
launched in November 2004. BT Retail has announced that it will trial the same speed service, with
a national rollout by year end. Other service providers are expected to follow suit and a glut of
new voice and video services will follow. Losing market share "If the bandwidth is....

Satellite Internet Connections
(14) Hi, I was wondering about having an internet service based from a satellite connection. This mostly
comes from this article: http://www.techweb.com/wire/networking/159401477 The service promises

satellites connections (phones) had a large delay due to the range of transmission. Would anyone
recommend this?....
What Would You Do If There Was No Internet?
