For What Are You Building A Site?

I meen. What are you bilding them for?
Me i'm buiding a site with the hope of earnig some king of money. But this is a dream form me. Are you eraning money from you site ? How ? Maybe i'm new in building a site a don't know the techniques. Are you guys eraning money from your site ? Can you give exemples?

I have few websites up and running, each for different purpose.

My personal website is alphabox.co.sr and the rest are not appropriate to mentione , because I don't want to advertize.

Anyway, if you want to make money you have to know how to MAKE (design...) websites.You need to ask yourself what do people want? What do you look for when you visit websites?

People want proffesional designs (survey showed people trust more to companies with proffesional looking websites then those who have 100$ worth design).

People want speed! They (don't we all?) hate when websites load for ever.They don't want silly useless animations that usually slow down the load process, except a small, flash perhaps, animation on top of the page (head) that represents the company (logo).

They hate ads! No popups or stupid banner ads everywhere!

Use quality material for your website.

Use polls to get feedback on your products/services and not forums!

Toplevel domain! I see people (small companies) with pro websites and a domain like mycompany.tripod.com! Use .com whenever it's possible.If the domain is already taken, try modifying it or use .net.

At the end, it all depends what you do for living/what are you selling.Designs depend on a category, so mechanic would not have the same layout as a guy that sells porn.

That's about it.

I just made a site so we can have a place to talk and stuff.. and a place where people can have fun and discuss stuff about video games.. mayb once i get paypal i will be looking for some $$

i am not good designer. I know PHP , and now I am learning Flash.

With Flash you can design very good sites as trap17's home page on header

I have made an site last weekend

The site is for my self-made clan of the game: Counter-Strike.
so everybody can see the latest news of our clan and of counter-strike itself.
also you can download movies from our clan made by me

this is my first site using the e107 system and like it very much!
anybody else uses e107 so we can exchange some tips with each other?
also you can put some usefull programmes on the site, so others can download them. Pls take a few seconds to have a visit @ my site

I have a several site. some I make it for organize. Some for friend. And some when I make it when I don't has anything to do. I'm not so good in graphic design but know some asp. That I can create some site script like webboard or counter.
If I got acc with trap17 I will make a little website about my friend and me at university That we can use to community when we have finish.

I making a site for games and games making stufff for beginners, like rpgmaker. Im also gonna use it to host my own creations like artwork, stories, programs, my own games, stuff like that, and also I am making it as a learning expirence, to teach myself more about wbesites and web design.

I made my own blog last weekend. I got it up pretty quickly. I used existing open-source site-management systems like postnuke. With these you can quickly set-up a prof-looking site without having to design it from the ground up. There are alot of themes avaible for it. Its really easy and you can quickly make changes to your site with a php/sql management system. Very easy and it looks great.

I have to make a website, and I think that control panel is super. I want to create site about music, and personals in music. But I don't understand so much how! ? Control panel is so big, have many questions, where are answers for it?

Well, my site started out to help my students learn histology.

My students all seemed to all find histology difficult. So I first made a site of useful histology links for them. The idea being, if they went to interesting sites, they would find histology more interesting. So at first, my site was just a big page of recommended links.

Then, I added books. My college bookstore did not sell all the histology books that I know are good. And it turned out to be a lot easier to post a book on my webpage, write a review, and tell my students how they could buy a book that I am recommending then to go through the book approval committee and fill out the paperwork to get a book sold at the college bookstore.

I don't remember how I got the idea of adding histology games to my site. But I got a lot of positive response from making histology more fun.

Then it evolved to a hobby. It just became fun for me to come up with games and ideas to make my site more fun and interesting. I added google ads and a few affiliate links, just in the hope it would offset operating costs. But my site is not a way to make money. Even if I get server space for free, my site has costs. Software for some of the games for example, and I had to pay a lot of money for the photomicrographs I used. Finding photomicrographs (tissue slides) that I am able to use on my site has been a big challenge.

I also made a site for my husbands business. This is just a basic business site giving general information about his business.

I don't plan on making any money off my site, so I don't plan on spending any on it either!

I'm simply making a site to have my own space on the Web to put up my designs, my opinions, and other things. Just a plain old personal site!
