| | Right now its worth just sticking with duo. The operating systems and programs are not taking advantage of the 2 extra cores, and by the time they do, prices will be way down. Better to just wait it out then, in my opinion... |

AMD makes good processors. A while ago they had an edge over Intel. Now Intel has an edge over them when they came out with the Dual Core 2 Duo. I suggest you buy one of those this time around, and when it starts to swing back thanks to competition get and AMD. Both companies make some good processors. Dual core processors of any kind are really nice since you've got what equates to 2 processors in one, but Intel has a darn good one...but really you're only going to see good performance increases in something other than Windows since it doesn't really take advantage of the dual core technology. You can wait out or get a single core that's good.

What Is The Best Processor For Gaming?
Replying to csp4.0When will software mostly games be ready for quad core CPU's? I am aiming for a high end gaming system. I am always loved AMD but I know Intel and AMD go back and forth. I am just curious of quad core will benefit gaming? -reply by brad

As for me, if i have to buy PC, i would do it with C2D 4500 + p35 or Amd 4200-4400 + g690. Anyway +2Gn Ram. But IMHO Core is better for gaming.

if you are using a graphics card then i don't think it is going to make much difference .... but if you wish to use onboard graphics chipset , try asus motherboard with nvidia nforce chipset which is much better than intels graphics media accelerator for gaming. i have been using AMD athlon4000X2 for a long time and its works fine for me as i am not a hardcore gamer...if you are interested in extreme gaming then you need to go for a good graphics card .processors...AMD or intel, wont make much difference there....

but, if you compare athlon64 with pentium 4 / pentium D, amd sure win haha no, Intel has been ahead of AMD for the last few years since FX2.... The QCX are the best processors on the market currently, even better in a skulltrail system (why they put those memory DIMM's in skulltrail i will never know.... they are terrible). I believe they have a 12mb L2 cache and there factory overclocked to 3.67 ghz if i remember correctly, although they will run you over $1000. God this thread is old.

The core 2 duos and core 2 quads really tear everything else up... amd can't even come close except on some budget offerings. and if you plan on doing any gaming, you shouldn't go with onboard graphics... even a $50-$70 video card will way outperform anything onboard. i think "factory overclocked" is a bit of an oxymoron.... maybe? i dunno all of the next generation processors, made out of 45nm silicon instead of 65 nm, will have 6 mb l2 cache for dual core and 12 mb cache for quad cores... unless they are coming out with a few budget versions that have less.

Intel To Deliver Quad-core Chips For Laptops This Year
(0) QUOTE Intel says it will ship quad-core chips designed specifically for laptops later this year.
The quad-core chips, most likely for desktop replacement laptops, will be based on the Core 2 Duo
microarchitecture and will ship in the third quarter, Intel officials said. Intel declined comment
on chip details, though enthusiast Web sites reported the chip is Intel's Core 2 Extreme QX9300.
The chips will be manufactured using the new 45-nanometer process. After Montevina Launch The
chip will be released after Intel's Centrino 2 platform, code-named Montev....
Processor Modes
(1) QUOTE Processor modes refer to the various ways that the processor creates an operating
environment for itself. Specifically, the processor mode controls how the processor sees and manages
the system memory and the tasks that use it. There are main three different modes of operation. The
8088 chip could only address 1 MB of system memory, and the original versions of Disk Operating
System created to work on it were designed with this in mind. This is called real mode. When a
processor is running in real mode, it has the advantage of speed, but it otherwise accesses ....

Overclocking My Processor N Motherboard
Did some crazy overclocking here (3) ok, I know that I have quite a number of real crazy overclockings before. like clocking a 2.4GHz

Everything was still normalk even after the crazy overclocking....Can you believe that. I do
respect the Intel Northbridge chipsets as they really allow you to do some very kool clocking to
your processor, RAM and Northbridge. I have used a number of Pentium IV class processors and
motherboards (6 pairs to be exact) within a quite a very short interval of time (within the past 1 ....
Intel Cuts Prices

AMD's Barcelona chip around the corner, we can expect more price cuts. So PC buyers everywhere a

Hard time for Intel to make bussiness decisions (2) QUOTE SAN FRANCISCO (Business 2.0 Magazine) - Much to Wall Street's dismay, Intel is

off. Itanium, Xeon, Woodcrest and Opteron Itanium introduced after ten years in 2001, with no
64-bit software to run and its crappy performance for 32-bit software is already cost a lot to
Intel. AMD took the advantage and with its Opteron chip in 2003 which ran both 32-bit and 64-bit
