Here is a link to The Web Standards Project's Acid2 Test for Browsers. It is used to determine a Browser's ability to render an html page according to the w3c Standards.
No surprise, but IE6 is the most horrendous rendering, Firefox and Netscape do 'okay', and Opera does the best. Opera is actually fully compliant with the Standards, so for those of you who are concerned about standards compliance, get yourself a copy of Opera.
Firefox 3 passes the test as per the Opera browser, but FF3 is not available to the general public yet. Soon, I hope
No single browser is fully standards compliant. Opera still doesn't have decent CSS 3 support and I often see it misrender pages that will otherwise render fine in Gecko browsers. But, it works, and I still like its interface much better than Seamonkey's or Firefox's.
Hi, I just wanted to let you know about how bad most web browsers really do when it comes to being standard compliant. This simple test allows you to check whether yours really has any web rendering flaw. Try it here: http://www.webstandards.org/files/acid2/test.html By the way, the results for the most important browsers: - Internet Explorer 6 :: Fails (Badly!) - Internet Explorer 7 :: Fails (Badly!) - Mozilla Firefox 1, 1.5, 2.0.0.X :: Fails - Mozilla Firefox 3.0 Alpha 2 or superior :: Passes - Opera 9.X :: Passes - Konqueror 3.5 :: Passes - Safari 2.0.3 :: Passes - Netscape 7.2 :: Fails Interesting, huh? More on it on Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Acid2

FF3 Alpha will be, though, and Safari for the mac is already compliant. Slowly, but surely, it seems, the browser wars are coming to an end. At least they appear to be heading towards a Universal Standard. CSS3 is on its way, too.
At least they appear to be heading towards a Universal Standard. CSS3 is on its way, too.
There is one standard, but the problem is it changes so much that no browser can ever have 100% HTML and CSS rendered properly. However, it does seem that they're starting to obey standards more. I hope that there aren't any drastic changes that would screw this up. The only one I can think of that would sort of screw everything up is if everything went onto true XHTML mode (when the document is sent as application+xml/xhtml rather than html), which would force Microsoft to update IE because it can't support even this simple standard.
If you going to error it on purpose then how is it really a test? As you can tell each browser errors it differently that I get, so am I to assume that this is the reason or is their something obvious that I am missing on this?
They put errors in the CSS code to see if the browser would properly ignore the bad coding. it's sorta like when you are skimming a word seek puzzle. if you're using english correctly you'll ignore the almost words but if you're not you'll use invalid words.
Each browsers interprets the page differently(non standardly), so it appears different. if you've done much web development or design you know that firefox and IE don't usually agree unless you add a bunch of code that one ignores and the other picks up on.
a good example of this is css induced transparency. for IE you have to use a special extra function to make it work (the function is ignored by all the rest of the browsers) because IE doesn't bother using the normal transparency commands. the same is true for making rounded corners on images.
Maybe I'm a bit innocent but I can't believe that years pass and web browsers are still so poor when it comes to standards. It's sad that Firefox did it so bad, let's hope version 3 will be better, because some years ago it didn't seem to matter that you made a website complying with standards... because most people used Explorer and you had to make it thinking that most people wasn't able to think by themselves and install another browser different to the one that their awful OS brought.
I think there should be some laws because microsoft is harming seriously web design with their infamous browsers... and they don't seem to worry much about it. At least Firefox is trying to improve its compatibility, but the purpose of new explorer versions is only to copy cool features from other browsers... in copying Microsoft are the kings, no doubt.

I came across this browser by a fluke chance when I was checking out articles at PC World, and from
what I remember from the article this is a very big name browser in Japan and they wanted to expand
it to the international market. What really caught my eye is that they want to get 5% of the
international market in the browser wars in the next couple of years. To give a background story to
this browser, it was developed in 2005 in both English and Japanese and after 3 years it gain some
popularity in the international community and so now they are trying to enter thems....
Ok, I currently use Firefox 3 because I think it has the most features, security and it is fast!
I thought I should start a topic (and I don't know if there is one like it) in which I talk, and
you guys too, about the browsers that are out there for any OS. So, I'm going to start off by
saying a few things about internet browsers that I have tried in the past. Internet Explorer
(Windows)- This is build into Windows when you first turn on your computer. I think it starts up
fast, but has a few flaws- which I will reach in a minute. The things that I like are....

It's about time I post this one, I've been using SpaceTime for a while now. Website:
http://spacetime.com/ Make sure you watch the introduction video on the index page. It really
explains it really well. A little f.a.q What is SpaceTime? SpaceTime is a web browser which is
in 3-d. Crazy? Thats what I originally thought, but I got using it and I really liked it. I still
use firefox though, but due to the features of SpaceTime I use it for searching websites and images.
What are the features of SpaceTime? The most efficient feature is the 3d searching. ....

Well, I'm not really sure if anyone will be able to help me with this... but I am looking for a
super lite browser. I mean, liter than Opera. I want it to be super fast, and super functional, but
I don't want a crap load of extra stuff. What I want: Tabs Speed Same abilities to play flash
objects, java, etc. simple look... barebones... skeletal if you will What I don't Want: extra
plugins that are not required for function bookmarks/favorites fancy interface. So yeah.. if you
know of any browser like this.... even if it was made in some guys basement, I....
Out of a fluke I found this software on a tutorial website, and basically your designing for IE by
opening several different versions of IE is over. There was a IE software that haslip mention,
however, I didn't like the fact it would cuase the browsers to crash. So I found bump into this
by accident, and the rest is history, interestingly enough if oyu have Office 2007 installed, you
have the option to chance skins based on what Office 2007 has. As for what versions this program
supprts is Internet Explorer 5.5, 6, 7, and even 8b1. It aslo has an update button so....
some websites are asking you to download their toolbar from a useful one like google toolbar to
harmful one like websearch toolbar and some provide service only if their toolbar is installed
(example: mega upload). QUOTE whats browser toolbar? Third-party toolbars for browsers are
best known for adding functionality and ease-of-use options to the end user. While the browser
itself handles basic browsing navigation (Back, Stop, Reload, etc) using its own toolbars, external
toolbars often add additional functionality to browsers (additional search fields, form-fil....
Well it seems that the Internet Explorer Team is pushing out the news for their latest browser which
goes beta sometime this year, summer I believe. However, they set up a triple rendering mode for
this browser meaning that Internet Explorer 8 will be able to display website based on different
specs on web standards. Meaning that if someone coded really old school circa 1998 IE 8 will be
able to display that properly with no quirks mode, they will also render websites during IE 7 run,
and of course today's standards as well. To me, I think is the first original i....
No seriously, I've been using Firefox since 0.x releases. I loved it. Every release, despite
having no huge features, was a great update. Version 3, however, totally messes everything up. Its
default interface is ugly. And no Home button, really ??? (ps. I kno i can drag it back from the
bookmarks toolbar but still, its stupid). The address bar search thing. I liked the concept, but I
am so used to the old way, this actually distracts me, I don't want to search my history
everytime I type a new address. Plus the slide out is huge now making the whole thing feel t....
Now that 2007 is almost over with news of Netscape's demise in just two months, and the major
players in the browser wars are set in stong; Microsoft's Internet Explorer 6 & 7, Firefox 1.x.x
& 2.x.x and Beta 2 version of Firefox 3, Opera 9.x, and Safari 3.x. Lets just see where the % point
are for the major players. Growth Chart So as you can tell both browsers IE7 and FF2 started
roughly the same, 24% for IE7 and 25% for Firefox 2, but interestingly enough they ended the year
roughly the same but with firefox winning by 1% at 37% while IE takes a nice 36....
Hi guys, Can anyone tell me what is the main deference between IE and Mozilla Firefox ? I have been
using IE (version 6.0) for one year but from now on I have decided to use Firefox. I just want to
know as to what Mozilla can do which Internet Explorer can not. Thanks! ....
Hi Guys, I'm trying to test a site for a client who doesn't have broadband. She has told me
that it's taking too long to download. I'm currently on broadband 2 so for me the page
loads in under a couple of seconds. Is there a way I can emulate 56k speeds on my browser so that I
can see how long would take to download. Cheers.....
Browsers are probably the single most desktop application that evolved the most in the past few
years. Up until Internet Explorer 6, browsers were simply browsers, an application that browses
webpages. Indeed the internet itself hadn't changed that much. Then Firefox came and changed
everything. But, the web has changed a lot too, enough to warrant a new version no. but browsers
havent truly caught up yet. Sure Firefox, with all its extensions can integrate with various web2.0
services, but its pretty superficial and flaky. We are expected Internet Explorer 8, and ....
test your browser for security holes: http://bcheck.scanit.be/bcheck/ This checks for the most
commonly occurring security vulnerabilities in the major browsers. In total there are some 40 tests
and may take a long time to finish. I have run this test on 4 browsers: 1)IE 7 : 0 vulnerabilities
(but the browser goes crazy, opening several windows and applications) 2)IE 6 : 1 medium risk (the
browser goes crazy like IE7) 3)Firefox 2.0.0.3: 1 medium risk (i think some plugin might have caused
this as some others have had different results) 4)Opera 9.2: 0 vulnerabilities ....

Currently on version 0.2 with 0.3 in development Swift is on the cutting edge of web browsing
technology. Swift utilizes apple's webkit to bring you KHTML which is widely considered the best

soon plans to implement it's own adblocker. Get swift here. Disclaimer: Swift is still in
development stages. If you are looking for a fully functional watered down web browser get firefox

Maybe you have already heard about the Opera browser and maybe some are already using it now. But
for some that don't have any idea on what it's about, well let me do the honors... Opera is
a browser. You can download it on Opera.com anyways, what i like about this browser is that you can
easilly download nice looking opera skins for free. Aside from that, it has BitTorrent---You
don't need a separate BitTorrent application to download large files. Simply click a torrent
link and start the download.-- it means that if you're downloading, you won'....
There are battles between different browsers for a long time now and it all began when netscape and
microsoft started the war;) First is now almost forgotten and the second one survived and is today
fighting mostly with Mozilla, Firefox and Opera. Each of those has many fans which will say that
his browser is the best! But WHICH IS REALLY THE BEST??? On the page HowToCreate they tried
to answer that question as they were comparing the most popular browsers for Linux (Firefox,
Mozilla, Konqeror, Opera, Epiphany), Mac OS X (Safari, Opera, OmniWeb, IE, iCab, Fir....
