LISTEN UP! everyone has different views about religion. I don't believe in religion myself. but humans need religion as much as they need LOVE,family and a feeling of security. humans need leaders to guide them,to assure them that they have a place in the world and in the world beyond. they need something that will love them and be with them no matter what.every one needs a place to run to or somebody to run to when the world no longer seems to be a beautiful place.everyone needs to feel that when everything goes wrong in their life they have someone to turn to.
religion and god provides them with all this and much more. that is why religion is good.
and remember that without religion in this world it would be in total chaos.
I actually consider those who NEED religion as week. I haven't had a need for any of what you say people need religion for in over 10 years.
Sure, now - I do feel that practicing religion helps people to magically deal with life's stresses.
All religion have to have some good lessons or morales as a matter of maintainablility (they'd get fewer members if they were proclaiming that somebody like D.H.Lawrence was speaking the words of god). The beliefs that the lessons are based on is what I have problems with - usually intrepreted stories.
Religion is not good if you ask me. It is the cause of most wars - and that's a fact. Whenever there are two large groups who believe in slightly different things they grow this thing called hatred (look at Israel and Lebanon or Syria).
What people should really deal with is reality. I hope that they discover life on Mars - soon. But, then they will claim that the Bible stated that God created the universe - and therefore, life on Mars... but it does say "... all the creatures of this land...." Those books written 2000 years ago can NOT be relevant today.
Religions should not be distinctly taught to our children - we should either teach them ALL religions or NO religions. If everybody understood each other, there'd be no reason for border-wars.
I can't see getting offended or so worked up over a BELIEF! Why do people become fanatics of their religion - I am not just talking about islamic fanatics (like Bush recently titles them "Islamo Fascists")? The promise of things that can't possibly be true drives people to amazing ends -- for example: "eternal life", or "72 virgins".... hmmmm - who wouldn't want 72 virgins when they die? Of course it is complete BS! Nobody could ever prove any of these descriptions of the after-life!
Now, to say that there will be complete chaos without religion is to assume too much. Without religion, we could devote more of out time talking to our neighbors (who were previously going to some other religious meetings). Without religion, we wouldn't have any more need for border wars - right? If there really is no after-life, we better make this life good and peaceful, right? Would greed take over? I am sure that some would stop caring about the immoralities of their crimes and - for some, it would be more chaotic.... but I don't believe for a second that the whole world would drop into chaos. My friends are mostly athiests as well - and we are so peaceful, you would think that we were each regular members at our sunday church.
Well, if there is nothing called religion, then earth would probably be in shatters.. It is probably religion that keep people stick to their conscience and obey their mind... If there is no religion, man would lose fear. Once he loses fear of the unknown, then he might indulge in all possible things. So it is better to have a religion regardless of the truth lying behind it. Religions also hep man celebrate various festivities which would obviously help people to ease off their worry ,...etc., Anyway, i would say religion is a necessary "GOOD"
As TechClave said, people need a relligion so they can grab themselfs to it, so they don't lose they're way and so they know what's Good and Bad in life....
I'm Christian, and I believe that Christianity is more than just a religion. All other (or most other, anyways) say that you have to work your way to heaven. Christianity says to put your faith in Jesus, because we can never earn our way to heaven by ourselves. There's joy in that because I'm sure that I'm going to heaven. Plus, I always have someone to talk to, and to cast my troubles on. I have connections with the creator of the universe!!
Speaking from a sort-of secular point of view, I think religion is good because it encourages people to do good. But as people above have mentioned, some wars are started because of different religions. But, it's not religion that causes wars; it's our own human flaws. Humans decide that they don't like each other because we have different beliefs, and therefore, they want to start a war. Religion alone does not start wars.
I think that we should teach our children about our religion, and apply it to our daily lives, but it is also important for them to know about other religions as well. We shouldn't force it on them, but instead show them how one should live it out.
It's that view I don't agree with though, Pixie. It puts too much emphasis on the fact that humanity can't do anything by themselves, and leads us, as humans, to view ourselves as inferior - as well as making other religions, like my own (Hinduism), appear inferior because "there's only ONE (count 'em!) path to heaven!"
It also leaves room for people who are genuinly bad, but follow Christianity like a trail, to earn a reward where other good people, who weren't offered or didn't find comfort in religion, can't get a similar berth. Lots of inequality in that structure.
Over all, I like to view religion as a rich cultural and literary tradition, rather than an organization of human creation that undermines a human's potential to create a life adequate to said human's goals. As humanity, we have to stop dividing ourselves over religion, and instead focus on the common things we all share. The more we divide ourselves, the less we can agree on a variety of topics that are threatening us now. Who's concerned with the afterlife when our world is essentially melting into itself? I don't know about you, but I'm sick of people waiting around looking for a miracle to tell them what to do. The answer's here - and we have to take care of our world and do our job before we get our "reward".
I actually consider those who NEED religion as week. I haven't had a need for any of what you say people need religion for in over 10 years.
I don't think that people who need religion are weak. It takes a certain amount of STRENGTH to believe in a god of any kind. You've got people attacking you from all angles. It would seem to me that it would be easier to go through life without thinking about it really at all, ignoring everything people say and believe that it's all just there and that no god exists, especially not the God of heaven.
I think what people need is a life philosophy... unfortunately many choose to take the pre-made ones (religious philosophies) instead of going through life trying to figure out the world on their own. I mean that is their choice, and I'd say religions get a lot of things right in terms of 'morality' but it is the things they get wrong that worries me sometimes. I think that people who choose to be religious should do a lot of heavy thinking about their religion's teachings- its okay to disagree sometimes.
I just want to start of by saying that i am a follower of religion - Buddhism, and as one poster seemed to believe that anyone that follows religion is weak well let me assure you that this is not the case with me. I've lost my girlfriend in a motorcylce accident, and my mother, and so many friends and family in my life time already, and I've lived to achieve some pretty worthy things already, and I've never so much as buckled. I believe religion not to be a 'fall back' point for support, but the human urge to discover and explore. When you embark on a religious quest you are infact exploring yourself, your soul, the darkest depths of your personality and your wildest dreams. That can't be compared to. Does it exsist - absoloutely. Does it just exsist in your mind? Well - who knows. All I do know is that there is a lot that can be gained from religion, and it's not just a post to fall back onto when your feeling weak, it is a way forwards. Sean.
I dont see how matak can selectively quote sentences from the bible and start talking about unsubstantiated claims about holy ghosts eating apples on hills and also talking about DNA @_@ Its just intruiging how some people who fail to understand dont want to =)
i think you got my idea a bit wrong.
what is there to understand?
we all have been given life to our disposal. in this life we can only guess about afterlife, and the choice about it is personal. my quotes are just my view, and my idea of how did everything begin. Of course that everybody can "see" different conclusions in them beacouse that is the point. now we could discuss this topic real much, and after all neither of us could prove that he is right.
oh, and discussing relligion is best when drunk near some camping fire

Okay, relating to what Sinari said: Just because they're atheists doesn't mean they don't have morals. These are personal decisions. Just because an ancient book tells some people what to do and how they can attain whatever through THEIR FAITH doesn't mean it applies to everyone, nor should it. At our very core, we are all individual creatures with our own morals, etc. Morals are influenced by environment, chiefly. Religion is simply there to bolster morals by offering consequences. If you do this, you get this. If you don't do this, this happens. I have several friends who are atheists who are better people than myself. And on another note, I have Christian friends who are anything but angels. You cannot assign people to stereotypes based on their religion/lack thereof.
And concerning Idle: I believe in reincarnation in a more fundamental sense. It's the Circle of Life rather than samsara
Religion simply exists to explain what we don't know or can't understand. Creation, death, life after death, up until things that are out of the ordinary. Just because they're weird doesn't make them miracles, but again, that's up to whoever to decide.
Too begin let me give you some history, I happen to have grown up in church, various denominations
mind you with some having very conservative and others very radical practices. In fact most of my
youth was formed around church activities and plans since I was home schooled and had very few
friends in that. From about 14 I began getting curious in the "sins" I had been taught so thoroughly
to avoid. Namely at first experimenting with girls, mind you church girls, then I began smoking
cigars, which made me curious about alcohol and weed which I both eventually tried. Afte....
Whats your opinion about cheaters? I, myself, often use cheats on games. I also use multihacks on
multiplayer games, but I only use cheats vs. other cheaters, so it stays fair.. Im currently an
active cheater in Wolfenstein - Enemy Territory. I only play in servers where an aimbot is allowed
and i respect noncheaters (I used to play noncheat myself aswell). So, whats your view on cheaters?
Do they suck, or do you respect them as long as they stay on their own territory? ~ Greetings,

Even though there was a lot of negative criticism over the new KDE, but over the last time there are
mostly positive critics and they encouraged me to try this DE (some of them even told me that KDE4

Okay, so my first contribution to the Life Talk section is finally realized. What am about to say,
however, does not concern with just a single 'Real Life Experience', but rather a collage of
different occurances and my take on them. Taking things from ground up, I think, will make more
sense. I'm a student. My daily life, these days atleast concerns mostly books, classes, friends,
and all the other undergraduate you can think of. But fact of the matter is, I live. I breathe, I
walk and talk and hence am a part of the society that constitutes the very mass t....

The Scarlet Letter is most definitely a novel to remember. This novel brings so much to the table,
there is a little bit of mystery, deceit, evil, and so much more. The Scarlet Letter is full of
symbols, themes and motifs. To fully comprehend the novel, an individual must read it more than
once. Nathaniel Hawthorne uses very vivid imagery, yet the story unfolds quite slowly. One should
have much patience while reading this classic, though in the end one will get rewarded. The Scarlet
Letter has feeling, strength and love. What more can one ask for? There are no action sc....
I'm just curious as to what everyone's opinion on this is. I know this is a very
controversial topic, so everyone please be nice! My opinion is that it is not. You know what
they say, "Atheism is a religion like bald is a hair color."....
So as you have probably read in many other topics, me and some friends are making a movie about a
Jewish boy and a German girl in the Holocaust. So I need to understand the faith. What prayers
are important? What are some important traditions? What are their morals and basic beliefs? I
don't really think that I will need a copy of the Jewish Bible because we have a Christian
Bible, and that has the Old Testament in it. Just tell me what I need to know. And just so you
know, I'm not interested in taking up Judism.....
How can anyone trust the men and women in charge of organized religions anymore? (by "organized
religion" i mean Catholicism, Islam, etc.) The Catholic church has been filled with corruption for
hundreds of years, dating back to the dark ages. Now, the priests, the ones meant to protect and
guide the people, are being excommunicated and arrested for molesting children. How can people still
follow these people? In the Islamic world, there are men that manipulate the words of the Que ran
for their own gain and claim that they are instructed to send people to their deaths i....
Does anyone know of a program to give you a visual view of your hard disk? I know there is one on
windows but I dont remember the name here sorry. I've got only 80GB of space and only 10GB is
free. I am not sure what is taking up all that space could it be the OS?. A program to give me a
visual view of how much space is taken up by what would help a lot in tracking used up space. If
there is any other method for hunting down used space and clearing it on OS X would be greatly
appreciated thanks.....

I was attending my political science class when I brought up religion. The following statement was
said: Religion has always been a form of government and has done the same amount of bad things the
untied states government has. I believe there is a difference between a set religion like
catholicism and the belief in Jesus Christ and deity compared to the religion it is linked to. If
God is really all knowing, why would a person have to dedicate their life to prayer and attending
church, when they can be out helping others and doing the basic set lines of how to be a good....
1. When you judge Christianity, don’t judge it through the behavior of people, but through what
written in the Gospel and what it instruct people to do. 2. Jesus called to love all people
Christianity calls the life of complete love and to self ssacrifice.and if people follow it then no
war at all. 3. Love Your Enemies : That is the top evidence that Christianity is the religion
of peace . It is the maximum of love to Love your enemies and pray for those who spitefully use you
and persecute you. Do not resist an evil person." (Matt 5:38-44). . Jesus had c....
I was having an argument with a friend of mine a few days ago on the fact that all the Western
civilizations are on a slow, but steady decline. Not necessary economical decline, but a far more
important and with far greater consequences cultural and moral decay which in time will inevitable
lead to the downfall of the Western hegemony. I strongly believe in this theory. I consider its
outcome not a question of if, but a question of when. You may call me a pessimist, you may think I
see only the part of the glass that is empty, but we all see the signs. I believe the West....
Starcraft, some people hate it, some people love it, some people don’t give a damn. But I’m just
wondering, what’s your opinion about this game? What do you think has led this game to become so
big, why do you keep playing it? What keeps you hooked onto this game, I probably won’t get a
straightforward answer, but lately I’ve been thinking a lot about this and I want to see what you
think. In my opinion, Starcraft is an amazing game, it's an old game, but it's a classic.
People in Korea have like an entire channel dedicated to this game and hold tournaments, (T....
Personally, I do not believe in God. I do not think there is someone watching over us that changes
or even effects our lives in anyway. What I am curious about is why people began to believe in
God. I believe people now do it because they want to have faith in something and they want to know
there is something more than this life. But how did this belief in God come about? There are many
different beliefs n what God has done or what God is. Why did people believe their relgous leaders?
Now we are a lot less religous than we first were, there is no longer peer presure. ....
There are many ideas that come up in this world that science has either failed to or just simply
cannot explain through tests and being able to use some sort of knowledge to link things together.
Human beings for some reason, must know exactly how this world works and the reasons as to why such
a creation is able to function in some sort of way. Through this reasoning, people constantly try to
find ways to believe in what they want to believe, and therefore turn to some sort of religion to
explain the world to them. With this in mind, there have been many religions creat....
Although science continues to advance to explain otherwise religiously explained ideas, I believe
that religion will always exist in our world. What do you think? Here's MY thoughts. I'd

were the only explanations. For example, the issue of how life came to be. Before, cultures from

You might have heard a lot of people going on about how their religion is true but I'm not going
to rant on about anything, I'm just going to tell you the straight-forward facts. The Qur'an

miracle in my eyes, so please go on to this website and read about 'em now!

During the last couple of weeks, I have noticed that there are some people in this community who
reply to posts dealing with religions that they are "not religious because they are atheists and
don't believe in God". In my opinion, this argument is inconsistent in two points: 1) By using
the term "God", these people miss the point that there are not only monotheistic religions but
also polytheistic religions like most nature-bound religions . 2) Atheists, though not as
well-organized as most religious people, do the same as religious people do - claim to have e....
A world without religion? I was thinking about it and thought, you know, i think
it would be better. Here are my reasons. The biggest change in the world would be less wars. Think
about it. Most wars are start because of religion. One of the reasons people came to America back in
the 1700s was because they wanted freedom of whatever religion they wanted. Another great thing
that would come about it would be that laws would be made on what is actually bad. For example, the
most well known mostly religious law is the banning of gay marriage. I don'....
this is my first edition in the religion section.Anyway guys the question is does Christianity
surpass other religions or not. This is what I think.Christianity is a way of life because it is
standard to all the world, whether american or zimbabwean or what you can still fit .Beside its one
of those religion that has amanual to follow which is the Bible andthe bible presents a God of love
which basically pulls its followers toward love and with love all wrongs are righted and all things
are made possible so the world can be abetter place to live in.What do others hink??....
That is right! I was reading a religious book about how drums have gotten into the christian
churches. This guy says that the one that is dangerous is the trap set. It originated out of west
Africa. It was a type of style and beat that only the modern trap can make. It is used in rock and
roll, and jazz. The people there used this beat to call up the "spirit". Get this, there are some
really good drummers out there that say there are to sides or voices to the drum. One is the sound,
the other the voice of the "spirit" that uses the drummer to make music. One ....
Religion is outdated, it hasn;t developed as society did. women can't be priests in nearly every
christian religion and definitely cannot be a part of the higher church echelon. confoms sexuality,
marrige. On all of these topics the church and christianity seems to be out of date with normal
world opinions. in my view the chuirch needs a haulover. One thing is strange thought... numbers
of members of protestant churches have been on the increase in the states and more young people are
getting married! ca it be that society has become so fragmented that people c....
So I have seen some religion/faith topics and I felt that I should describe what I believe there is
schism between the two words. Faith is belief. It is personal and it is truly the strength of the
person coming out to pay homage to whatever it is that they believe in. Religion is a congregated
position where you and others believe in the same thing. Now I truly believe in Faith. I despise
religion. Faith for me is needed by those who I guess need that extra boost in their existence to
try to explain it or they just feel more comfortable believing in something. I p....
