When you're sitting comfortably in your sofa at home, there is indeed some mental strain involved in picking up a book that might teach you something, or calling a friend on the phone that you haven't spoken a long time to. This is why your mind blocks out these options or makes up an easy excuse like "oh well, why don't he/she calls me..." And this is how you end up spending the whole evening in front of your TV while your brain numbs out like a housewife on a lazy Sunday afternoon...

meh i like games.. i play them all the time.. they own! mabey some prefer a fantisy(sp?) then reality...

Sure they can be a waste of time, but the idea of games is to entertain, and that is what they do. So if its dull, your bored, you can play a game to keep you entertained. I play Diablo 2 In my free time because i could sit on my ass and watch a film or read a book, but id rather have some interactive entertainment. What games have you played that have given you this negative feeling?

I dont agree how is playing a game any more or less a waste of time then reading a book im not saying reading is bad or anything but do you get any more out of it then you do from games really?

I right now kinda still stand for "Games ARE NOT a waste of time" but, after reading the newspaper (I'm only 14, ok?), a 16 yr old played for 15 hrs straight and was sent to the hospital, 3-4 years ago, two teens played DIABLO II for 26 hrs straight, one died because of the game; but seriously, who's that stupid? Back on my stance, I, myself is not a hardcore gamer. I still play Generals, HALO2 and all that, but I still play around w/ Linux, get good grades @ school and talk to ppl on MSN Messenger. I also read my books and listen to music. Playing games as described b4, gives joy to the kids all over the world. Without video games, we might as well be bored as ever in the modern world. xboxrulz

Games may be a waste of time but, for me, they provide a much needed escape from this reality. Life is full of vices and addictions and video games most definatly fall under that catagory. honestly, in the sceme of things its healthier to be addicted to a game for a couple weeks then develope a dependancy on some mind altering subtance that could do permanent damage to the body or mind. Life is short take pleasure where you can find it and try not to hurt others in the process.

this is all based on opinion gaming is something you do in your spare time, however there are people who make money from it. this is a bit like saying, watching films is pointless. the thing is, its all entertainment, thats all. your not supposed to live off it.... if you do, good for you!  gaming = hobby

Umart - Video Card Troubles
(3) My video card (geforce 7600 gs) that I bought from umart lasted about 6 weeks and then stopped
working, i took it back to umart who sent it away which took a whole month to return, the card then

My Rant On Video Formats And Compatibility
(11) Ok, well recently i bought a DVD Burner, and it works fine all to say, but i never knew that the DVD
Roms had to be a certian format (DVD+R or DVD-R)so i had to buy the correct format of the roms, then
i didn't know that the video that i wanted to burn to the DVD had to be a special format (.avi,
.mpeg, etc...) so now i have to go through this whole conversion process, then i have to make sure
that the format of the video is compatible with the DVD player that i want to play it on.. im like
argh! what a nightmare! SO my ideal it, to scrap all video formats a....

Millions of replies = waste of time (4) Every now and then, I find one of these topics around the forum asking what people do. I usually
reply, and over time, the amount of replies in that thread really adds up, and I don't really
have the time to go and disable the reply notifications of all these topics. It's like every

Those Who Think Video Games Lead To Violence
It really makes me mad... (28) I really hate all of the people that think video games train kids to kill. In the colombine school
shootings, they said that the kids played video games, which is why they committed the crime.
I'm not saying that they are wrong or right, but if you look at the statistics, as video game
sales increase at a substancial rate, the number of violent crimes are starting to decrease. I want

go outside.. (9) This is to those of you who spend countless hours staying inside playing video games. Not to those
who you who indulge your time sparingly.. Video games were made to cure boredom. Not to take time
out of your busy day. I see more kids staying inside playing video games then I do outside playing
in the warm sun. I miss the days when we'd play Tecmo Superbowl for ten minutes then go outside
and play real football for two hours. Now, most people are lazy and do it the other way around, play
real football for fifteen minutes, start sweating then go inside and play PS2....
