Seems cool that you can get free wireless internet. We can't over the ditch in New Zealand, but times are changing, maybe next year I will be able to as well?

I bought a Samsung A900 last August or late July and it's pretty awesome. It has a modem option too. Just plug it into your computer using the USB cable supplied with the phone out of the box and I think it may need a driver however, and it works as a 2ghertz dual band wireless modem. Never tried it but my phone has this ability, I don't think the net would be very fast through it anyway because you plug it in through USB which in itself isn't as fast as something like a network interface card.

Yeah i have done this with GPRS as well. Nextel was the first phone company to start this and i guess its grown but i have never heard anything about it. I did have some problems connecting and trying to get it to work with my Nextel, so hopefully they have done a better job.

I tried using my N73 to online with EDGE,the connection speed is 470kbps. However,i have a question here,is it good to use handphone as modem?will my handphone life span be shorten?

Two years ago WE in SERBIA had free gprs so every one use phone with IC port and USB-Ic.... It was slow, but free now when we pay gprs it is so expensive

Does anyone know about EDGE? I am in thailand and I had a LG 7200 (the one that looks like the camera) and the network I was on at the time (it was orange but now it has been bought by true and changed to true move) were the only one experimenting with this. From when I did manage to hook up to this method, it went like a bat out ok hell compared to a normal mobile connection. Anyone had any success with this in any other countries?

ANy one out here. used a Sony Ericsson P990i as a modem with their laptop. I am experiencing some problems in connecting my P990i to my laptop either using USB data cable or using the Buetooth connectivity.

it is good to use the mobile phones as modem but the major draw back is the mobile battery will be drained quickly and you sould be in good network coverage region otherwise the speeds will be very slow.

I was thinking about trying this, however I wasn't sure if my phone (a Motorola E815) could pull it off, and I wasn't sure if it would be free either. Anyways, it would be very useful for use when no Wifi Server is present for my Laptop to connect too.
