The fastest, most reliable way to upload or download files is through FTP. If you don't already have your own Web page, read our reviews of over 80 free Webhost. If you don't have an FTP client, Download WS_FTP Pro now. Step 1 - Connect your computer to the Internet. Step 2 - Launch WS_FTP Pro by clicking on the WS_FTP Pro icon that's on your desktop. If you do not have a WS_FTP Pro icon on your desktop, click on the Start button and then select Programs, then WS_FTP, and then WS_FTP Pro. Step 3 - Connecting to an FTP site: When you open WS_FTP Pro, you're taken directly to the Connect to Remote Host Window. First, highlight the folder labeled MySites by clicking on it once. Once you've highlighted MySites, click on the Create Site button from the right-hand side (this will create a new site profile within the MySites folder). When you clicked the Create Site button, the WS_FTP Pro Site Profile Wizard Window should have opened. Please enter your desired profile Name. This Name can be anything you want. It is use as the display name within the MySites folder. Once you've enter the profile Name, click the Next button. The WS_FTP Pro Site Profile Wizard will now ask you for your Host Name or IP Address information: Once you've entered the the Host Name or IP Address, click the Next button. The WS_FTP Pro Site Profile Wizard will now ask you for a User Id and Password. Please enter YOUR USER NAME for the User Id and YOUR PASSWORD for the Password. Then check the Save Password checkbox, which will save your password so that you don't have to re-enter it every time you want to connect. Once you've entered you User Id and Password (leave the Account field blank), click the Finish button. This will bring you back at the Connect to Remote Host Window. You'll notice a new folder for the FTP site has been added within the MySites directory. We're now ready to connect. Click the Connect button and WS_FTP Pro will connect you to the FTP site. If you have speakers on your computer, you'll hear the sound when you've successfully connected. The left side (or left pane) is a view of the files on your computer or your Local System. The right side is a view of the files on the FTP site or Remote System. To transfer files between your local system and your remote system, first highlight the file by clicking on the file name once. Then click the appropriate green transfer arrow located between the right and left pane. The right arrow transfers files from the left side (your computer) to the right site ( Website) and visa versa. -- As Submited by Codename_88 at our partner-site.

I use Total Commander. U can then edit FTP connection or simply enter URL adrress of your FTP connection. ftp://yourusername:pass@server_adrress. It was simple like Windows Explorer. Downlaod at http://fileforum.betanews.com/detail.php3?fid=945901171

Cammy. Get Firezilla. Its the best out there. You can do everything. You can even send custom FTP commands to the server. It is also 100% free, not ad-supported and very simple to use. You can have everything the modern FTP client has. Drag and Drop uploading and downloading, uploading and downloading process screen, server list and much, much more. It is also the fastest FTP client i've used. Evar. I would really say for you to use Filezilla. 100% free. I'll edit this post with a download link now. http://filezilla.sourceforge.net/

I am using SmartFTP but it will not connect. It keeps saying: Resolving host name "ftp://ftp.itek.trap17.com/" [16:52:49] Unable to resolve host name. [16:52:49] Active Help: http://www.smartftp.com/support/kb/81[16:52:49] Cannot login waiting to retry (30s)... What am I doing wrong here?

I would suggest you to use CuteFTP as your file manager. It's best in the sense it resumes uploading from the broken connections & then it simultaneously can have too many connections uploading many a files at the same time, saving your precious time. I myself use it & never got any problem other than from the server's side. It also has an easy to use interface, just click the New connection button and put the ftp info ther & you're done. CuteFTP is simply the best.

As i said before, i only used dreamweaver built in ftp client, and very very rarely the windows symbol system that allows to conect to ftp, or the graphic ftp through internet or windows explorer instances, but as i heard about fireftp, i thought it would be really great to try, i love fire extensions for my lovely browser hehe... But i did find it very annoying, it slows the hell down all firefox windows, gets me a lot of errors and sometimes it disconects. I didnot feel happy with it, so i downloaded filezilla, which im using to upload joomla right now, and it has been nice since the beggining so... make yer choice, what i say is that i wouldnt recommend fireftp (i used in two win xp different machines)...

i'm currently using WS_FTP Pro 9.1 (haven't upgraded to Pro 2006, gonna purchase it soon). Before I found WS_FTP, I was using CoreFTP Lite which was not bad. It should be easy to upload files and connect using Ftp with WS_FTP as long as you have an account and the ftp username password. BTW, thanks OpAqUE for the tutorial...

Where Do I Upload My Ftp Files? [resolved]
As in, which directory? (1) I recently got approved for hosting. I have an account right now, but I don't know which
directory to post my FTP stuff in. (I don't know if this is in support or not; the search
results didn't return anything.) I remember with my last host that had CPanel that you had to
upload it into the "public_html" folder. So I do that, or do I just upload it into the root
directory? Thanks in advance! (EDIT: Oh, never mind, it is /public_html.)....
Transferring Files From One Host To Another
Take my site to trap17 (8) As I said, I had to move my web site away from Trap17 temporarily because I had ran out of disk
space. Now, when my upgrade is finalised, I would like to ask for a little assistance. The provider
I will be moving my site from, back to Trap17 also uses Cpanel, and the admin let me know to do a
backup and that backup could be simply transferred via FTP to my new provider. The backup includes
all my files and MySQL data, in other words, the whole web site. It is in a .tar.gz format. How do I
get all this across? Do I 'unzip' the file and then transfer them bit by bi....
Ftp Trap17 Account Help Please

Can't Find My Fantastico Installation!

Need Help Installing Smf
It's not finding the files I upload. (5) I downloaded the zip version of the SMF, from www.simplemachines.org I am using SmartFTP, to upload
the files. I created a folder, named Forum, and uploaded all the SMF files there. On the
simplemachines site, it tells me to type my site url followed by /forum/install.php, or whatever the
directory I installed it on is called. I tried that, and I come up with this on the page. Not

Problems With Deleting Files In My Account

Connecting To My Sql Db With Sqlyog

Question About Uploading Files
im sorry if someone already has a thread on this (3) I have been using Frontpage 2003 to make a website, it is basically complete but I need to know how
to upload the files. I have been playing around with the file manager and it seems like I have the
site there but in a very inefficient manner. Is there any way I can just use Frontpage to upload
the files and type in my password and username in Frontpage? If so, can you lead me to a thread that
explains it or tell me? If not, is there an easier way to upload files into the File Manager

Unzipping (untar) Tar Files
(5) How do I unzip TAR files on the server? Is there a specific program that does this? I don't want
to upload the little "module" packages one by one to the server because that will consume more
bandwidth. If there is a program that does this and it is freeware, please tell me where to get it
and what it generally does. I use ZipGenius 6 to open most of my compressed files, including TAR

Problems With Ftp
Can't upload files with ftp protocol (10) I have a big problem uploading my website with the ftp protocol. I usually don't allow my ftp
client to act as a server, and most importantly, i don't let my ftp client to act as a server to
receive connections from the internet. But when i try to upload my files to my trap17 ftp account,
part of my free hosting account, my firewall is allways asking me if i want to allow my ftp client
to act as a server and if i allow it to receive connections from the internet. I don't think
that is normal, i use other free hosting servers and none of them ask to turn my....

Help Moving Mysql Files To A New Host
IPB files (1) Well, my partners on my forum has decided to move our site to a newer host. A paid one to be exact.
And we did that already. Now all we need to do is move our forum over to the new host. We want to

Restoring Backup Files?
(4) hey, guys i have a quick question. If i'm planning on to restart my account and lose everything,
but i made a backup of my FTP and SQL. If i reupload the FTP back to the way it was, will i get my
