Ubuntu is my fav version of linux i have it installed on two of my 10 comps so yeah its completely free they ship it to you and everything it runs on almost any pc its better then widows it has an easy install!! www.ubuntu.com

Ubuntu is one of the distro's I've never tried....maybe it has something to do with the fact that it's free...hrmmm...I might give it a spin!

Ubuntu is designed to end users and tries to be more friendly than other distros. It is based on debian and has some problems with that. Those problems start when you try to use some multimedia packages like mplayer.

Some multimedia programs are considered as non-free by debian, so when you try to install them you need to use a repository different to the stardard one's and have to edit the sources.list manually. That is sometimes annoying to end users.

Other thing is Ubuntu is sponsored by a private company and has a lot of paid publicity over the internet that makes they popular. But, for me, better is debian. Maybe Ubuntu is the starting path to a pure debian instalation.

Just, some opinions on the topic.
