| | Good news for Yahoo users.. Yahoo is planning to upgrade all free email accounts to 1gb at early May. Gmail is already one step ahead... starting from their first birthday a few weeks ago, gmail has started to slowly increase the storage space using some mathematical equations. when this message was posted it had reached 2091 MB.. i guess around 2 GB! |

Yahoo and Google, a competition that has been going on since Google began expanding and invading the net!
Yahoo obviously feels threatened that you can now get a 2.098 gb account by going and getting a Google account, and that will drive away a lot of buisness since now you don't need an invite to get the accounts anymore! ( Note, the invites still exist at large numbers from 6-200 invites ) Think about it. Word spreads fast and soon the modern day, social people will get to know about Gmail and will rush to get an account after all of the "Its so quick and safe", and "2 GB big, YOU WONT EVER run out of message space" and the famous "Gmail as a Hard Drive!"
So you see, it's another chapter in the industry battle field. Yahoo is basically giving the people more so that their ammount of users per day dont go down and transfer over to Gmail. ( I would prefer gmail until something bigger comes along, which wont happen any time soon )

I don't really care all that much for the extra space. It's nice and all that Google has decided to keep adding on like that, but there's no way in heck I'm going to have 1gb of emails in my account at once, let alone the 2097 that's available at the moment. And I don't care too much for the "gmail hard drive" either, because I already have two 20gb HD's in my compy, and regardless of the 5 or so gigs I download a day in torrents, I'm still doing fine.

*cough* Please refraim from mentioning the Bit Torrent methods which are usually used for ILLEGAL activity. Well when I think about it, most people don't need any more then 500mb! But then again, if you had a choice, would you pick: A. Gmail, Google Beta Email, 2.098 GB OR B. MSN Hotmail, 250Mb Well?

Anyway...this is a good move. As the battle goes on..the space will keep increasing. I think both giants are good in different ways. I still feel google should give webhosting..... -Shackman

QUOTE(Kiko_Way @ May 6 2005, 06:23 PM) I dont like Yahoo mail, its to complicated to get to your inbox. I perfer Gmail, the inbox keeps growing and growing, about 1KB a minute. Go ahead and laugh, but thing about how much it would grow in a month. Only 1 giga byte. Actually, at the rate that it's increasing, you'll only get around 100 MB a day....you get 3.456 MB a day, and if you multiply that by 30 (roughly 30 days in a month), you'll get around 100 MB a month. In a year, you'll get more than 1 Gig. Also, yahoo! is bound to make its inbox like Google to compete. Think about it. Within a month of gmail's debut, yahoo boosted its inbox to 250 MB to compete with Google, so chances are that yahoo will only get better with time.

Woah....!! This is way too cool. I think Yahoo! must have bought a hundred over new servers just to increase the inbox space.....but like the above poster said, who's complaining? I agree quite well with the above poster....we have got free web hosting...free...quality e-mail....free domain names/redirection.....who knows...maybe .com domains will go for 2 bucks a year... This is great news for all Yahoo e-mail users. 3 cheers! -Shackman

At last Yahoo is all set to face google with its plan to give 1GB of Email space to all its free users. They have promised to give the service to all its users by early may. The added features include so called "Virus Cleaning" which cleans the viruses(if any) present in any inbound mail (but with a tag line that reads that all viruses may not be detected). Also with enhanced search capabilities. Now Yahoo users who might have felt left out with lesser storage space are in for a pleasant surprise. If things go on like this, we may end up getting all online services for free! But who's complaining anyway??
