BTW I am in no way responsible if you screw up your PC.... :

These Settings will fine tune your systems memory
management -at least 512MB of ram recommended
go to start\run\regedit -and then to the following key
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Memory Management
1.DisablePagingExecutive -double click it and in the decimal put a 1 - this allows XP to keep data in memory now instead of paging sections of ram to harddrive yeilds faster performance.
2.LargeSystemCache- double click it and change the decimal to 1 -this allows XP Kernel to Run in memory improves system performance alot
Reboot and watch your system fly ..happy tweakin

Ever wanted to have your Internet Explorer toolbar to have a picture on it? Well now you can just follow these simple instructions.
XP Professional:
1. Click Start > Run > Type gpedit.msc
2. Click User Configuration > Windows Setting > Internet Explorer Maintenance > Browser User Interface
3. Double click on Browser Toolbar Customization
4. Click on Customize Toolbar Background Bitmap
5. Browse for the new Background (it must be a bitmap image)
XP Home Edition:
1. Click Start > Run, type: regedit
2. Navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Toolbar
3. Right click on an empty spot and create a new string value
4. Name it BackBitmapIE5
5. Doubleclick on BackBitmapIE5 and type in the path of your toolbar bitmap
6. Click OK and close regedit

This is an interesting way to increase the security of your machine further. With the help of this tip, you will need to insert a special floppy disk that you make in order to log on. If you loose the disk, you are locked out.

1)Click on start run and then type in SYSKEY, hit return
2)On the first window that opens you shall need to click on UPDATE
3)On the next window ensure the System generated password is selected. (this is what I reccomend)
4)Also ensure the Store startup Key on a floppy drive is selected click on OKAY (Yes, make sure there is a blank disk in the floppy drive.) follow the prompts closing out of the windows and restart.
5)Remove the disk and restart.

This one is for all of you freaks out there with double and milti boot sequences... If you have more then one OS installed on your computer, but you don't use it very often, then you would probably want to boost up the startup by skipping the OS selection screen.

First make sure your windows is set not to hide "protected operating system files" (by going to Control Panel\Folder Options\View tab, and ucheck the "hide protected operating system files" checkbox)

Edit the boot.ini file in your c: drive, so that the timeout value will be "0" (timeout=0)

This will make your pc skip the os selection menu on startup.

If you ever want to use your other os you can change the value back to what it was in the first place.

OK so you want to know how to insert a seperator in the start menu....hmmmm try this.........

The first thing to do is create a new shortcut on the desktop. Select any file for the target, and under the name of the shortcut, use the trick to add a blank space for the filename (ALT+0160 on the keypad -- making sure NUMLOCK is on). Then click finish.

Next right click the file and choose properties -- change icon. You should automatically be browsing the windows\system32\shell32.dll folder. About 1/4 down the list, choose one of the blank icons (or another icon you may want to use). Then click OK. You can also remove the target. You now have a completely blank icon on the desktop.

Now just drag the blank icon to the XP start menu and you now have a seperator.

Ever get tired of starting in safe mode to get tot he administrator account in welcome screen in XP?

Simple, When at the login screen press CTRL-ALT-DEL twice. This will bring up the login screen were you can type a user name and password in.

Adding useful information to system properties....

I want to share this simple tweak I learned. Please run notepad and paste this text:

[General]

Manufacturer="You can display useful information here"

Model="You can display useful information here"

[Support Information]

Line1="You can display useful information here"

Line2="You can display useful information here"

Line3="You can display useful information here"

Line4="You can display useful information here"

Line5="You can display useful information here"

Line6="You can display useful information here"

Line7="You can display useful information here"

Line8="You can display useful information here"

Line9="You can display useful information here"

Line10="You can display useful information here"

Save it as oeminfo.ini in C:\WINDOWS\System 32. You can also create a bitmap file and name it as oemlogo.bmp, save it in C:\WINDOWS\System 32. Now, try to hold down Win key while pressing Pause/break. You'll notice that the text and image you created will appear in your System properties. I hope u enjoy it!

I am very disappointed with this post...

1. The long instruction isnt quoted.

2. It is straight off from a different forum. (copy paste)

3. Triple Posting... not even double, you have no excuse...

4. This is not your first warning...

Enable Quicker Startups with a boot Defragment

Make your system do a bot defragment, which will put all the boot files next to one another on your hard disk. When boot files are in close proximity to one another, your system will start faster. On most systems, boot defragment should be enabled by default, but it may not be on yours, or it may have been changed inadvertently. To make sure that boot defragment is anabled on your system, run the Registry Editor, and go to:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Dfrg\BootOptimizeFunction

Edit the Enable string value to Y if it is not already set to y. Exit the Registry and reboot the next time you reboot, youll do a boot defragment.

**I've found many web sites recommending a way of speeding up boot times that may in fact slow down the amount of time it takes to boot up, and will probably slow down application launching as well. The tip recommends going to your C:\Windows\Prefetch directory and emptying it every week. Windows uses this directory as a way of speeding up launching aplications. It analyzes the files you use during startup and the applications you launch, and creates an index to whre those files and applications are located on your hard disk. By using this index, XP can launch files and applications faster. So, by emptying the directory, you are most likely slowing down lauching applications.

Speed up Shutdown tiimes

Dont have XP clear your paging file at shutdown
For security reasons, you can have XP clear your paging file (pagefile.sys) of its contenets whever you shutdown. Your paging file is used to store temporary files and data, but when your system shuts down, information stays in the file. Some people prefer to have the paging file cleared at shutdown, because sensitive informations such as unencrypted passwords sometimes end up in the file. However, clearing the pagefile can slow shutdown times significantly, so if extreme security is a high priority, you might not want to clear it. To shut down XP without clearing your paging file, run the Registry Editor and go to:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControl\Session Manager\Memory Management

Checge the value of ClearPageFileAtShutdown to 0. Close the Registry and restart your computer. Whenever you trun off XP from now on, the paging file won't be cleared, and you should be able to shut down more quickly.
Turn off unnecessary services
Services take timeto shut down, so the fewer you run, the faster you can shut down.

Hope i helped.
