Very interesting and odds are this is for older computer with older pci cards that are no longer out on the market. Of course any hardware that iss 1-5 years years ld and your turning them into a ubuntu system then you will be set in finding the right drivers,

Does no one find this weird that a company that has been making operating systems for almost a quarter of a century cant program generic drivers... but a o/s that is free and developed by Mr Joe Bloggs can....

Linux Ubuntu Vs Windows Vista
Discussion on which OS is better, Vista or Ubuntu. (4) A few weeks ago, i downloaded a live-cd for Linux Ubuntu 8.4 and booted it from the cd. It was not
as bad as i had thought (although i had trouble booting /dry.gif" style="vertical-align:middle"

Ubuntu 8.10
(5) Has anyone here tried Ubuntu 8.10 yet? It's the latest release, and it's supposed to have
various subtle minor improvements, a Live USB creator, possibly a new theme, and guest accounts.
I'd really like to try the Live USB creator. Although... wouldn't that stuff up your USB

Maclin
Linux on a Mac (0) Why are there no good distributions of Linux for Macs? I have a MacBook with Mac OSX Tiger, Windows
XP, Windows Vista, and OpenSuSE 11.0 on it. I wrote a post here on how to accomplish this.
However, OpenSuSE works horribly on Mac. Is it completely Mac's proprietary fault, or is it
just that most Linux users in their right minds would never pay for a Mac when they could build a
Linux-friendly machine for pennies in comparison? I use a Mac for many reasons. First of all, I
love it. Secondly, I have a website that I like to check with a variety of environments. ....

Windows Vista Installation Fails
(9) Hello. I tried Installing Windows Vista Home Premium today, but when it comes to the part
of the Installation where it says "Your computer will restart several times" my computer restarts
more then 40 times, and never loads after that. After like, 10-15 minutes of it being off, I switch
it back on, and it restores to XP (Witch is good because it wouldn't start up at all). I've
tried installing this 4 times altogether, and nothing. it keeps restarting continuously more then 40
times. The only time it restarts is after the BIOS loads, when switching/restar....
Can Anyone Recommend A Light Linux Distro?
(10) I'm looking for a light linux distro, but something decent, that will only run on about 128-256
ram, CPU 1.8GHz, that has office (probably open office or abiword) that won't need more than
about 2-4GB hard drive. (Something like puppy linux) Just to run in an emulator. I'm asking
because there might be a killer distro out there that I haven't heard of or found that someone
might know about. If not puppy linux will be great for it. Thanks....
Windows Xp & Ubuntu’s Cold War
(5) This is an essay I written for a my linux class and I thought I would give my thoughts about how I
compared XP with Ubuntu. QUOTE Windows XP & Ubuntu’s Cold War In 2000 years, there
have been many epic battles, many of which have produced both heroes and villains and many producing
winners and losers. However, in today’s world another cold war is brewing, that cold war is
between Microsoft’s Windows XP and Ubuntu. They will never pull out all the stops and launch
nuclear missiles, but instead will try to provide a whole new world for people t....

If Mac Osx Is Best With Hardware, Where Does Linux Lie?
(5) Here's a good question: Is Linux better at utilizing hardware efficiently to produce optimal
performance out of your components. I hear a lot about Mac OSX being so much better with Intel
processors and yada yada, but I don't know if this is true or if a bunch of Mac elitists said a
bunch of crap and ran with it. I don't think there are actual comparable benchmarks, but if
there are, where does Linux lie in the hardware efficiency race? (Or is it dependent on which Linux
distribution it is, like how XP still beats Vista in performance?)....
What Made You Switch To Linux?
(48) I first tried Linux a few years ago, not because I was completely against Windows or anything like
that, but just because I had some free time on my hands. I started off with Mandrake 9.0 which was
very user friendly and Windows-like. After reading through a bunch of message boards and learning
which distros are good for what, I soon realized my current distro was great for Linux noobs. So
then I decided to try something a little more advanced like Slackware which I knew had a steep
learning curve. Since then I've been using Slackware as my main OS and couldn't ....

Ubuntu Linux As Free Operating System Alternative
linux operating system (47) About three years ago I decided to learn how to use Linux and after a lot of posts on a forum I
tried Ubuntu Linux as it was recommended as a good first Linux distro. Ubuntu is not the easiest
Linux distro to use but with its unmatched forum community support it is one of the easiest to learn
to use. One of the problems with learning Linux is that a lot of users have an attitude that Linux
should be a free Windows knock off which it is not. Ubuntu is build on a Linix core or kernel and is
a different Open Source and free as in to use operating system. This brings us to t....

Linux - Why It Fails As A Desktop Operating System?
(34) Linux is becoming such a craze nowadays that not even a single day passes without one or other
distribution releasing a new version. But why is it failing so miserably in the desktop arena. The
answer lies in three reasons. 1. The plethora of distributions -
Redhat,Debian,Ubuntu,Suse,Gentoo,Knoppix - everbody and his uncle is coming out with new ones. 2.
The lack of backward compatibility - I had Redhat 7.3 running. I upgraded to Redhat 9. Many
applications had to be recompiled. You ask my mom to recompile applications - She will throw out
Linux and take Windows anyday. ....

What Linux Distro Do You Use ?
(70) I've just recently tried linux and I must say I"m really impressed with the new KDE and Gnome

How Do I Switch From Gnome To Kde?
Ubuntu Linux (6) Hey. I use Windows mainly, as I use games and graphical programs the most. However, I use Linux a
bit, just for programming and other things like that. I'm not that good at programming and
linux though ;_;... Well, I decided that the main reason I don't like to use it is that it
looks so alien, and I hate how GNOME looks. I hear that if I move to KDE I'll be sacrificing
some performance or whatnot. I have this really crazy linux zealot friend who preaches the linux
gospel to me, and will attempt to beat down any reason why I like Windows. I would ask ....
