| | I haven't seen any major improvements from windows xp to vista that would make me purcahse it. To me it just looks like an unessisary re-write of the windows operating sytem. Perhaps I will change my mind when it is released and I can see what it can do. |

i think that the new windows will be very good and then apple will release a new pc as well i also think that windows vista is coming out in 2007 from hotdog55

Vista is cool, my bluetooth keyboard and mouse work with it, most programs work that worked with Windows XP. Also, Mozilla Firefox works (goods for open source users). I don't like it, however, how IE 7 toolbars are layout (menu on bottom, tabs on top), Windows Media Player pausing when I do one simple thing, etc. Microsoft did drop the "My" from everything, also there is a games menu. So far there is only a 32-bit version, as I know of. Windows Media Player 10 looks a bit different from the version in Windows XP, also the finding of music to add to the library is different, which made it confusing. Apperance (skins) are different, Aero Glass, and Windows Classic (yep, no Windows XP skin, have to copy and paste from Windows XP OS). Also I'm trying to find out how to switch from non-transparent to transparent, and back. Well, that more information [maybe repeated] of Windows Vista. If your installing it, I would recommend you dual-boot it (install it as a second os) instead of Upgrading. To do that, make another partition that is NTFS (on your other hard drive, etc.). You can do that with PartitionMagic, or use Windows Disk Management, which is in Computer Management (Right click My Computer, click Manage). Make sure you don't hide the partition, otherwise setup won't recongize it. Make it any drive letter. Note: The drive letter you set it to will be the main letter of Windows Vista, which you CAN'T change later. (My is D: for Vista, if you want to know). After that is all done, run setup, click Custom, click Where to install Windows, select Disk 1 or listed partition you created that you let you install on besides the partiton your running on, then set your computer name, and that is that.

It does look very attractive but i am beggining to wonder weather it will become "too user friendly". Based on the windows xp defualt settings, hide file extentions, hide control panel, hide system files etc... i hope we dont see more of that.

I really like the new design of Vista. Those screenshots that you posted really show how much better its design is compared to XP's design. I especially like the new folders. I can't wait until this hits the stores I will be the first in line to buy it.

I'm not too impressed with Vista's looks. It's more or less a basic XP skin with different colors/shapes and some transparent/refractive edges on windows/icons. This means that just being in the desktop enviroment will require quite a bit of RAM and video card power/memory, which are going to be wasted. I use Windows XP Professional with the Windows Classic style, simply because it's easier on the system's resources (which is a good enough reason for me to use it).

we really cannot tell for sure how will this OS fare in te market for it is not yet offcially released. Of course it will have problems that's why it is still in BETA phase. Best way to react would be when it is formally made available by MS.

After 18 Years Windows 3.1 Is Officially Retired
(14) Wow is all I have to say just because of the fact I thought they gave up giving licenses for this
old, outdated, slow, useless operating system. I guess not as November 1st, 2008 Windows 3.1 is

screen when booting? In XP there was an option somewhere in control panel to "assume this user

Windows Xp Sp2 Restarting After Some Time
(8) Hi , I dont know what happened but My system restarts after a few Minutes (at max an hour). Can
someone guess what might be wrong. It displays a System Shutdown Timer (initiated by
Administrator) and then restarts after 60 sec. This is an SP2 so I dont think its a blaster. I
have a ZoneAlarm Security Suite and it didn't detect anything. I even Scanned my Windows folder

of the Installation where it says "Your computer will restart several times" my computer restarts
more then 40 times, and never loads after that. After like, 10-15 minutes of it being off, I switch

Dual Booting Vista And Xp With This?

Windows Xp And Dos Multiboot
how?? (11) Question to you all, I have a computer running windows XP, now I want to add a "real" DOS
enviroment on the computer (not cmd or dosbox or something like that). So I thought dualboot will
do the trick, but the problem is, if I go on and install dos on my free harddisk, I will have a
