| | I work with Windows XP but i tried with Windows Vista, and Linux. Windows Vista, is a super O.S. but it's still a little poor in some aspects. For example, i use solidworks, and solidworks 2007 don't work in windows vista, because, windows vista uses directx, and don't use open glide anymore. The program solidworks have to upgrade to directx to work in vista, like the new version solid works vista. Other O.S. like linux, are the future, because this programs are changing the possibilities of new O.S., in Brazil we have a version called Kurumin, it's so nice, the interface it's really cool. And others O.S. like Mac O.S, i know only a little bit, but i think it's a little bit complicated... |

It's nice to see people have experience of old OS as Windows 95, maybe even older? Back to the days when i bought my first computer(a 486) 1992, the choice of OS for a PC was simply one, Windows 3.1. Basical simply graphics, but it was cool, even if I got used to using MS-DOS alot. When Windows 95 released, everyone i knew talked about how awesome windows 95 were, plug n play, backward compatibility, 32-bit, new user interface. I was even lucky trying Windows NT 4.0, with kernelbased programs, which opened up for nice security holes, and program instability. But Indeed, Windows NT are our father to Windows 2000, Windows XP and Windows Vista. Today I'm using both Windows XP and Windows Vista, both in case of support. Even if Vista has more features, both graphic user interface and more system opportunities, Windows XP are still the one I prefer(Years of experience using it). Some customers have bad experience of using Vista, like Vista has no backward compatibility for games and programs, that customers are using. Often helped by upgrading softwares/games online. But still there are alot of old goodies that have been falling off the track when you start using Vista. UAC (User Account Control) is one of the functions that in the beginning drove me crazy. Executing an msi package, will generate the question, if you "really" want to execute the installer package. I'm fully aware of that the UAC has its advantages and you'll have 100% controll of whats happening with your computer. One more thing that I've encounter by helping customers to upgrade to Vista, is the lack of device drivers. Frustrated, I spent a couple of hour at my customers computer, which began to get frustrated on me because of the waiting. No, there were any drivers for his device for Vista. Hopefully, for Microsoft's part I wish they will cover up the lack as soon as possible. Still there are peoples that are jumping off the Vista train and goes back to Windows XP. And thats a pity, special if you just bought a new computer with a Windows Vista license and wish go back using XP, you must buy just another license, an XP license. Why not give the freedom to customers by giving them an universal CDkey that are working for the latest of Microsofts operating systems? Oh, that would be a crackers delight, wouldn't it?

I use Vista, but I have Kubuntu 7.10 installed, in case I need to download something from Rapidshare and Windows renames it to an "EFW" file. And yes, I have used, at least once, all non-server Windows versions 3 and higher, except for maybe CE and 7. For some odd reason, Windows is actually faster. The main reason I don't use Linux as often anymore is because a lot of programs I have only run on Windows and I can't bother to set up Wine properly.

QUOTE For some odd reason, Windows is actually faster. What made you reach that conclusion? Also, there isn't much you can do with Wine if something doesn't instantly load, but if you miss the simple stuff, then you'll think it's crap when it's not. Did you look your programs up in Winehq to see if anybody made a guide on them?

QUOTE Let's see... Nonstandard programs like ALZip and Stepmania, maybe... ALZip: Wow a zip system, choose another one of the multitude that exist and do the same thing. Stepmania: Haha are you for real? Look on their website, it's natively supported by Linux so you don't even need Wine. Link. Even then, the game was getting a Platinum compatibility rating over at winehq, which means it works perfectly.

Personally, I would prefer to use Windows Vista because I've already gotten so used to Windows Operating Systems and how to become a non-programmer Power User. There are just things that I can't escape that are Windows Only. However, for my parents or any one of my friends, I would ALWAYS recommend Mac OS X Leopard. Apple is VERY good at user interface and layout, and all the real-estate is used so perfectly. All my Mac user friends love using the Mac, even if their reason is that it looks prettier. However, the subliminal message inside Mac OS X is that you will feel better when you no longer have to click the small invisible buttons of Windows, and have access to so many easier to use software. A google search for Windows software yields millions of results, but most of the top results are spammed and are very poor software. The better software obviously exist, but since Windows software programmers do not pay attention to user interface and layout, it is very disappointing. Mac OS X may focus on form over functionality, but that's what people say to attack Mac users. In reality, Mac OS X is very intuitive, and perfect for people who just want a computer like a piece of furniture with internet features and chatting. Windows needs teaching, but Mac OS X doesn't. For Power Users who are not enthusiastic Web Designers or Graphics Designers, AVOID Mac OS X. Mac OS X is a community of ARROGANT people who don't admit that they like the operating system because of how pretty it looks or that they design websites very frequently. You're better off with Windows XP or Windows Vista if you really want to have that "I really know what I can do with this" feeling.

After 18 Years Windows 3.1 Is Officially Retired
(14) Wow is all I have to say just because of the fact I thought they gave up giving licenses for this
old, outdated, slow, useless operating system. I guess not as November 1st, 2008 Windows 3.1 is
officially dead and the funny thing is didn't support for this operating system end at windows

technologies that ae out there today and so if your going to cut off support you might....
7 Lessons Windows 7 Can Learn From Os X
(3) Another interesting article I came across today thanks to digg and it would seem that the points are
right and I would think most people would agree with them even though this is in the eyes of an
Apple user. 1. Easier product versions QUOTE Keep it simple, please Microsoft. Having too many
different versions of your product is too confusing for the buying public to understand. Should they
go for the Home, the Professional or the Ultimate version? Vista shipped in six different editions,
while OS X 10.5 Leopard came in just one (if you forget the server edition). ....

Change 'open With' In Regedit

Windows Vista: Disabling Login Screen
officially not permitted, is there a way around? (5) Hi all, I'm sure some of you gave a thought to this, why does Vista always show the login
screen when booting? In XP there was an option somewhere in control panel to "assume this user
always login to the computer" or something like that. That way if you used the same user 99% of the
time and wanted to keep a second user as say an administrator you could do so by setting that
option. If you ever wanted to switch to the "hidden" user you could do so with Log Off or Switch
User in Start Menu. Now this is not possible in Vista, the user is given the login screen no ma....

Maclin
Linux on a Mac (0) Why are there no good distributions of Linux for Macs? I have a MacBook with Mac OSX Tiger, Windows
XP, Windows Vista, and OpenSuSE 11.0 on it. I wrote a post here on how to accomplish this.
However, OpenSuSE works horribly on Mac. Is it completely Mac's proprietary fault, or is it
just that most Linux users in their right minds would never pay for a Mac when they could build a
Linux-friendly machine for pennies in comparison? I use a Mac for many reasons. First of all, I
love it. Secondly, I have a website that I like to check with a variety of environments. ....

How Many Times Do You Reinstall Windows In A Year

see you in other post. Reinstalling windows is a daily chore for the students studying computers.

whole lot of (Un)installations and will ultimately slow down the whole system. This is not the case

Windows Xp: Explorer.exe Crashes On Certain Accounts

What Made You Switch To Linux?
(48) I first tried Linux a few years ago, not because I was completely against Windows or anything like

which distros are good for what, I soon realized my current distro was great for Linux noobs. So
then I decided to try something a little more advanced like Slackware which I knew had a steep
