What Would You Do If There Was No Internet? - hmm...

whyme
Another not-so-obviuos quetion, this sparked up again when I made a prevoius topic, What do you use the internet for?. For me, I'd proably be sitting in my bedroom tqidling thumbs, i mean if ther ewas no interent there would be no:

Google, or Amazon, or eBay, or PayPal, or Forums, or Flash Games, or Websites, or Online Banking, or PHP, or HTML, ASP, or CSS, or Yahoo, or heck, even trap17 wouldn't have existsed.

Just thinking about losing the internet is scary. ohmy.gif

If there was no internet then I would have a life. I would go out and be active doing things like jogging, rollerblading, or football. I would not be the fat slob that I am right now.

I would also develop social skills because I would have to go out and make friends and hang out with them. Ideally, I would like to develop wit and sarcasm.

But, since the internet is here and looks like it will stay... I retire to my room so that I am able to continue being a fat, witless, slob.

Exactly. If there was not internet. I would be died pretty much of bordem. Everyone thinks that internet is like a need now a days. I can't think of living without it for one day. When the cable goes out. I have nothing to do. I get so bored and without Internet...i wouldnt be as smart.. internet is the best thing that has happened to us.

If there was no internet I would not have chosen my course (BS in IT). I would not have experienced the kind of satisfaction when you see something that you've created being seen anywhere on earth. I probably would have gone to a lot of libraries if there was no internet and I'm sure I'd have a difficult time searching for things that I need.

if there's no internet, i would probably be continuing my degree in architecture. designing houses and structures which are not mine. I stopped my schooling because i got interested more in computers, designing websites and gadgets and gizmos. now that i am out of school I have all the time to connect to the internet. I just need to find a work so i could enroll for a computer school here in the Philippines. Because computer courses are very expensive in our country. right now i am doing sidelines as webdesigner for our or my former university's official student publication and the website my former College of Architecture and Fine Arts. But I am also planning to continue architecture after gatting a degree in computer.

If ther was no internet...I'd probably be really bored, or something. Also, I couldn't be creative at ALL (I'm not that creative, but working on my website is a way for me to be creative, and it's the only thing I'm actually SOMEWHAT creative with.) Also, I wouldn't be able to chat with other Hamtaro fans (None around where I'm at...anyway, you don't wanna hear me talk about Hamtaro...) Just thinking of their being no internet is creepy, VERY creepy! It's hard to even think about!

well internets a very useful tool to have around but i dont think its something i would die for. my longest time for being off the net was about 3 months, my computer broke down plus my broadband was gone so i was left with nothing. so i just hungout with friends and watch tv do what ppl usually do. but now that my comp is back and im on dial up im using the net again and yes internet is fun though there is so much you can do...

The internet has been escape for me. If it didn't exist... I would probably still be reading books voraciously and/or spending a lot of time on adventure and simulation PC games. Would I have been satisfied with that for six+ years? Maybe, maybe not. I might have been a bit happier overall, or I might have had less joy. Something that happened to me two years ago rather embittered me. But several things came into my life at the same time that have given me a great deal of laughter. And I don't know whether I would have survived just on books. (I was rather depressed about five/six years ago.) I like games, but Sims did get a bit boring. Maybe certain life-changing choices would have been made earlier or not at all.

without internet, i'd spend all, or at least most of my day either programming or learning how to program games. i'd be more of a waste of space than i am now laugh.gif

I dont know if I could survive with out the internet. I am always on line it is my life. But I have often wondered the same thought what if something happened to the internet or what if ther was no internet? My life would be so different than it is now. But again i often think the same though And wonder and worry about my children. They are online a ton also. And i remember when i was a kid and the net was not around. I use to wake up in the morning, (on the weekend or in the summer when there was no school) and eat breakfest and my parents were lucky if they saw me before dinner time. I was always gone out playing with my friends hanging out and having a social life. When i think about it i miss it but sadly to say I dont want to go back. I dont know why its just that I am addicted to the internet and I dont want to give it up. But I do wish my children and the children of the future had a chance to go out and have a social life like that, but at the rate we are going I think it will stay a thing of the past.

Without the Internet, I'd probably be making paintings or sketches. I'm okay at sketching.

Of course, if it were a question of whether the Internet was shut down suddenly and for good, I'd bet that a lot of people would be on the streets begging for cash, because the stock markets vaporized and there are no proven records of anything, so they can't claim stuff. Also, Bill Gates would be out of a job.

Well I would disagree with you on that part. That Bill Gates would be o0ut of job because of seeral facts. Microsoft existed before internet or before it was such widely known thing. And currently if you look on the buisness that internet makes on the Microsoft it would not influence it that much since most of their profit comes from elsewhere that is from the retail sales of the software products developer kits and everything else microsoft has to offer.

The point is that if company doesn't make so much profit online it wouldn't be destroyed moreover I would like to note to everyone that giant like google would probably die in an instance when internet would be destroyed.

So this is from me for now. And one mroe thing wink.gif Bill Gates is out of job already wink.gif

No net?
for us older people, we would just watch TV or spend time with the family and friends.
As for the younger? I would hope that they would do something that I was tought to do when bored. Pick up a book and read.
True you can get books and even movies in the net. but nothing can beat just sitting back and reading and relaxing.

Hi, I was wondering about having an internet service based from a satellite connection. This mostly
comes from this article: http://www.techweb.com/wire/networking/159401477 The service promises
432 KB per sec but I am wondering how might work as I've heard the connection speed for
satellites connections (phones) had a large delay due to the range of transmission. Would anyone
    recommend this?...

  5. Broadband In Gas - Carrying internet over gas pipelines (5)
I recently read about a company called Nethercomm that is promoting a broadband in gas technology.
Apparently, this company has some patents pending on devices that can be installed in gas pipelines
that go to commercial and residential buildings to provide the "last mile" connection for broadband.
It appears the technology is based on radio frequencies propogated down the gas pipe as a wave
guide. Nethercomm boasts data rates up to 40 Mbps are possible to the home. Anyone know of any
actual implementation/trials of this technology going on presently?...

  7. Rich Internet Application - Who Is Going To Win The Race? - (7)
Last couple of months we can see the competition between 3 major Companies Adobe, Sun and Microsoft.
Everyone wants to win the race. They introduced 3 products to develop RIA (Rich Internet
Application). Flex - Adobe. Silverlight - Microsoft JavaFX - Sun Flex is already in Production,
they have released Flex 3.0 beta. Flex SDK is open source and Blaze Data Services (part of Flex
needed for Server side Programming) is open source. but Flex IDE and LifeCycle (Super Set of

  8. Microsoft Confirmed IE7 Compatible with XP and newer - Internet Explorer 7 only for XP (26)
Micrsoft confirmed what we've already expected. The new-coming explorer IE 7 will only be
compatible with windows XP and newer. The two reasons why old dinosaurs that still use Windows 2000
and lower won't be able to use the new IE are: 1. state in which is the extended support of
Windows 2000 and 2. mostly of technical nature (IE 7 is goin to have a few security updates and
imporvements, which bases on the functionality of the new XP SP2 and this is the reason for its
incompatibility with other versions of Windows) Source: Slashdot ...
  9. Voip(voice Over Internet Protocol) - real money saver (16)
VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) is the communication technology of the future for sure. Legacy
technology carries voice signals over analog circuits and lines. Voice over IP converts the analog
signal to digital and transports the signal to the receiver where it is converted back from digital
to analog and the receiver hears the sender's voice. This provides a more efficient and
economical means of communication. I have know VOIP for quite a some time since i started online.

  11. Skype Rule - Talk for free on the internet (7)
This has been available for a while, but I only recently. This is a Voice over IP program that
allows you to talk to anyone on the internet anywhere provided they have the same program. The
software is free. The real amazing thing is the new feature you can now have real phone number. That
means someone can call you from a normal landline and you can call other landline numbers. They have
also just added the live video software also for free, so if you have a web cam you can see the
other person. I know, I know it is not all that new, but this is the first software that ...
  12. Internet Telephony - Any Experiences? - (10)
I was wondering if anybody had any experience with internet telephony or voIP. I've tried Skype
with mixed results, and recently read an article about a number of fairly large companies who have
adopted it as a money saving venture. In the UK BT announced yesterday a new phone service whereby
when you take your phone outside your home it uses the Vodafone network, and when you use it at home
it automatically uses voIP over bradband. Sounds interesting......
  13. Internet Explorer.... With Tabs! - (22)
Yes, it’s finally true. Stuck on like a big band aid, courtesy of MSN Toolbar 1.2, we have IE with
tabs. Well ahead of the release of Internet Explorer 7, Microsoft has done what they just absolutely
needed to do, and have provided tabbed browsing for Internet Explorer. Things are fairly undeveloped
at this stage, but reports talk about it running fast and supporting most features you'd want.
