It's a new technology
The bad thing about Vista is that even though Microsoft states its for everyone, with the 7 or so different versions and requirements, there is little to no drivers for Vista as of now. And Vista is due out January or July 2007. I cannot tell you the price as it is still a while for it to be released. It is pretty good but there are some major bugs and flaws. An example of this is, when opening Media Center the whole operating system crashed. If you are willing to look past the bugs and look at the positives then you would agree that this is the best Operating System that Microsof has produced. I hope that by the time it is released the bugs that many users have experienced have been reported, sure that may be what the beta testing is for but lets face it some people can be really lasy and not bother to report any flaws. I hope that I have answered some or all of the questions that you have, from reading your post it seems you have many questions.
Windows RC1 is out for testing for the public already.. I'm not sure if its still available but you can check out the Microsoft website for more information... I'm given the option to test out those versions of Vista but my laptop isnt Vista capable and thus I didnt download and test it out... But from those screenshots shows that Windows Vista is a must try for all Windows user, and if you have the ram and power in your computer, its definitely worth it since most ppl's problems with Windows Vista is that they have not enough processor which makes their Operating System start up very slow and result in a bad Vista experience... So if you decided to install Windows Vista, remember to upgrade your drivers and RAM first!
I have lower specs than what is suggested on many sites, and my vista ran fine as i found it basically a slight upgrade to XP, it ran fine and i do not have a Vista ready graphics card, infact i have half the required ram and Cpu speed. I would seem like the last person to run Vista but then again it has a fairly good design, some good features. OK, a slight exaggeration. It loaded faster than my XP!
I would only reccomend getting vista when it is released, any time sooner wouldnt be a good idea as the drivers for current and past components dont exist so you will find yourself needing to upgrade just to run it anyway. There are however, sites that can tell you if you are capable of running Vista and what you will need to upgrade. I hope we have been able to help you gursimran2006.
so basically to shorten up what the two great responses above me said....it is another operating system (such as windows XP) that is going to be released early to mid of next year....there you go!!
I have found that the windows vista rc1 is a whole lot more optimized than xp. A computer with vista apparently runs a whole lot faster that if it had windows xp, what impressed me the most is that it runs pretty fast even though it has a lot of add ons and graphic improvements. Though it has some video issues at the moment.
I don't think I am going to ever use Vista, I am definitely going to switch to a MAC once my current computer Pentium 4 2.67 gHz 512 MB RAM computer becomes obselete. And with bootcamp already out and being able to run a windows partition, I don't see a need to actually take the risk with regards to Windows Vista. I am sure Vista will just be like its predesessors, filled with bugs after being officially released, and a need to install a service pack in order to fix the screw ups they have. Besides I am sick of Windows and a MAC would be something refreshing, the reviews are much better as well than Windows anyday.
Reason is more optimized is due to the fact that vista eat's up most of the resources to make it run smooth. But yes it is basically fancy version of XP but with a better but crappier security system (Black box). Speaking of that with vista coming out Microsft is also having it's wn anti-virus program which has made many people angry. In which European officials have sued (I think) because of the possible monopolizing microsoft would have over it's competitors and what not.
However I think Microsoft should have kept this a secret because every hacker, cracker, phreaker has got a taste of what vista can do and I bet they found stuff that microsoft bug team has not. Should be interesting, but on top of that most computers 3-4 years old won't be able to handle hte load unless over time computer uses have updated their systems and what not.
Yes, its stated that Windows Vista run faster than Windows XP, however that when you start to get more and more programs running, and more ur hard disk gets load up, more problems occurs... I believe that Windows Vista eats up over 1 GB of space in your hard drive, but I guess its worth it since it gives you a better interface...
Did you have 512 MB of RAM? Cause 512 is the minimum requirement to run a Windows Vista OS... And although I have not tried Windows Vista, I'll definitely get it when I upgrade my specs... And since that many of the Microsoft products works best and have the best feel with Windows Vista just like Live Messnger, Windows Media Player, IE7.0 etc...
I was debating about using vista. But i decided not to. I heard there was a lot of bugs with it and that you really need an amazing pc to run it. My pc specs will work with it but if i was going to get it i would probally wait for the final release. Becuase i have heard some really bad things about it.

windows vista isn't anymore the most recent windows from microsoft, it looks like they're planning a better one
I wonder how easily microsoft will be able to bait the regular consumer into purchasing this product. The average soccer mom or granddad isn't going to care about an enhanced interface, (Paticularly when the one they have now works, ironically the adaption of xp's interface has made people entirely reliant upon an archaic GUI from which they are uncapable of change without signifigant difficulty.). Not to mention, the majority of consumers are not concerned with the software they have now, paticularly when now that xp is finally stable there is barely a reason to upgrade. The only people this will appeal to is prebundled packages with new operating systems installed and techies that want to fool around with the concept of a new OS. I don't believe there is anything major that constitutes the price point microsoft has made.
All in all, I would not recommend this OS unless you want the latest games, or your bored with your OS and just want to fiddle around. I recommend you have a d3d9 ready graphics card and 2gigs of ram if you don't want to lag out in this OS, otherwise its just not worth it. (1gig users can use it, just remember that you'll probably dig in to paging file fast.) I'm sorry microsoft, but a new 3d GUI is not going to appeal to the majority of consumers. So I can't wait until they spin the 'its more secure' stuff when we really are dealing with barely out of beta software. I also dislike prepackaged software like the unremovable internet explorer and the new windows anti spyware technology. It's great for them to compete, but it's shotty business practices when these things run in the background, or "hide' in the internal OS without your knowledge. You are effectively trying to destroy competition unfairly, as the consumer should have the option to run software for themselves with their own choices... Sadly the ease of use is more important than security.
I believe there are an unheard of 6 different versions. What this means is less individual support and documentation for each one and a lot of confused consumers. Most people have no clue about the differences between the standard Vista, and Vista Ultimate, but will buy the most expensive one just because they think it'll be faster or safer somehow.
Most of the features are copied off of Mac OS Tiger or whatever it is called, and overal I don't think it's going to be smart to get when it comes out. Most 3rd party software developers will tell you that looking at the BETA, Vista appears nearly impossible to complete before their release "date". You can see that Microsoft realizes this by constantly pushing back the release date. Sure, the graphical additions will be nice, but it's just going to make it slower and until it's been out for a while and patches are developed, it's going to be very buggy and potentially have some dangerous security exploits. For that reason, I refuse to switch right when it comes out. There are too many things I need to protect on my computer, and despite Microsoft telling us they have tested this OS more than any of their previous, their reputation for releasing buggy operating systems warns me otherwise. If you want the look, use window blinds. It's tons cheaper than buying a new operating system.
I don't think I'm ever getting Windows Vista. It's probably is going to be really expensive, will load my computer, there will be plenty of bugs (like any other versions) and everybody I talk to who have Vista said the better thing about it is the interface. Well I don't give a ... about the interface
