I'm largely against supporting "trendy" culture (e.g. rampid consumerism brought on by heavy advertising to create fashion trends)--so it took me a while to try out the Ipod.

A few months back my RioVolt SP250 (a cd/mp3 player) died, and so i was in the market for a new one. I had concidered buying a mp3 player, but they all seemed rather expencive. Then one of my friends offered to sell me her old Ipod mini for $20. As it was cheaper than even cd/mp3 players I happily agreed.

I've had an ipod for about two months now, and I'm pretty satified. My only complaints are: 1) The battery is buggy--it sometimes dies and won't allow me to recharge it. 2) It isn't capible of reading the track number off of the ID3 tag, which is rather obnoxious because you need to make a playlist for each album that you want to hear in the correct order. 3) Itunes sucks (atleast for the PC)...but that is easily remided if you use another program, like Winamp with a plugin. 4) Only 3.5gb of space...but it's a mini...

Conclusion: Not a bad buy for $20, but i certainly wouldn't pay the $150 it was retailing for.

I do not find Ipods cool either. As some of you have said it has poor design, I dont think it looks attractive. Most people thing they are "IN" and cool if they got one, and they are like bragging that "hey I got ipod and this makes me cool!".

it is so expensive! yet it works just like any other mp3 players whice are available at much much cheaper cost, people are just buying the brand name. I do not need that much space for music, Sixty Gigabytes of space is way to much for me. I would only listen to around five or six CD audio CD if i am going to use an MP3 player, so i would invest to buy one that would suit my needs and satisfaction

Too expensive only for being fashionable. It´s cool but I wouldn´t pay so much for it when there are other options. And I don´t really need so much space.

I think that iPods are still cool despite their popularity and their exclusive pricing. I remember when I first got mine before the whole iPod thing started off. I agree that they are high-quality and the designers over at Apple really thought the whole process through and pretty much thought of everything there is possibly to think of when you use your iPod. Although the first ipod that I bought is currently broken - something is messed up with the hard drive - I still think that I would consider buying one. Of course, nowadays, it seems that wherever you turn there are always contests or competitions in which an iPod is the reward.

I just think the ipod is just pure fashion. Its for the rich, just like in pcs. For those that want to pay more for things that look cute. Because for half the price of an ipod or imac, you can get a better pc with better specs.

Before i would die for an 60gb ipod video. but now.. i'm more into 3rd generation phone that plays music, video, calling, etc. You could do so much more with a 3G phone than a ipod. Sure.. .mp3 phone usually dont' have much space and you can't really store that many files in there. .but i'm sure you barely ever listen to all the songs on your ipod. Beside... after listening to a song a few times... it gets boring.

I'm sure in the future.. the limited memory problems for phone will be solved. There's a new samsung phone that hold 8gb. That is crazy for a phone. .that is like 2 times a mini ipod. Also, my w600i battery lasts longer because it doesn't have any moving parts (hard drive).

I have an iPod Shuffle myself, and it's great! Simple design, stores a lot of music -and you can use it as a regular USB drive for your other data files by adjusting how much space you want for music. They've also gone down in price as well, so now it's more affordable than before.

I've also started to listen to a lot of podcasts lately...and the one drawback I found was that I couldn't listen to podcasts in shuffle mode. I was only able to listen to music files. The solution? Set it to regular playback mode.

Aside from that, the Shuffle is still a great buy.

I personally think that the iPod was a brilliant design. They managed to simplify the user-interface a whole lot by doing away with so many useless buttons and integrating the features.

One of the best things about an ipod (especially recently) is the thinness. Most other mp3 player s that I see are 2-3 times thicker than an ipod. And the ipod nano is even thinner. Personally, I hate having bulges in my pocket whether it's a phone, keys or an mp3 player.

I wish that they had made an iPod nano without a screen though (did they?). I love how thin it is but i wont ever really use the photo/video feature much.

Otherwise though, there are plenty of other brands out there that sell mp3 players with huge capacities and great sound quality. My only gripe is about their thickness.

So, all in all, I still wouldn't get an iPod.

I have to agree with a few of you here, the ipod is way too expensive for what it does, especially when cell phones have the same compatibilities. It's a portable harddrive with an lcd screen, albeit a slick one.

I still use my portable mp3 cd player. I really only need it to listen to music.
