| | What the above said....lol...
I was browsing the Internet the other day looking for the answer of which processor is the best for gaming, the compared processors are Intel Pentium IV HT E and AMD Athlon 64 (if I am not mistaken...)
Most people say that Intel is better than AMD but also more expensive. While others say then AMD can be over-clocked and is less hotter than Intel.
So know, I want your opinion. Which is the best processor for gaming? Intel or AMD?
Thank you for the help. |

From what i have heard, pentiums permorm slightly better at hi-end applications. But I think this is a negligible difference.

Athlons have superior Floating Point Units (FPU) No application today makes use of the 64 bit architecture unless you are running Linux compiled for A64. P4 EE (extreme edition) has like another set of 2mb L3 cache and therefore is ginormously expensive. Can be all the way up to a thousand bucks a piece. The regular P4 Prescott (800Mhz FSB, 1MB L2 cache) cores perform better than most athlons in a lot of things and are the speed kings of today.

Personally i have run an athlon my whole life, and i find them very very nice, considering that they are a fraction of the price of a pentium 4. They also can be overlocked to very good ammounts. The intels though do have better motherboard options, that is very important in a chip, for instance the new pci express are not on any athlon boards that i am aware of(alert me if i'm wrong).

Right now I am running a Atlhlon XP on my PC a 2100+ and a Intel Pentium 4 3000 on my lap top. They both seem to work amzingly well. But when it comes to games.. I would have to say AMD comes out on top. AMD seems to be the easier processor to over clock with the lesat amount of chance for damage. I have known Intel's to overheat a great deal.

So from all the replies...I conclude that Intel is a better processor except the fact that it is easy to overheat. Right?

Hi there!
AMD processors are best in use with linux, unix, solaris and other server/database and firewall programms. [unix/linux/sol can use the 64 bit tech]
Intel processors - Pentium are designed 4 office applications and microsoft operating systems. the celeron is designed 4 gamers, but i think that the pentium is better 4 gaming. hyperthreading is best used with games like unreal, quake and other 3d shooters.

Even as an AMD lover I must say that at this moment the intel cpu's are better for gaming as amd Athlons (so not an 64bt version). The tests I have seen between intel p4 and amd athlon the intel always was between 5% and 16% faster The p4 3.2GHz the outpaced the Athlon XP 3200 by about 16% but when you know that the clock speed of the AMD 3200+ is only 2.2GHz the difrent is not that big because it is really 2.2GHz vs 3.2GHz. btw 2091 would you pleace be so kind to set a normal font all posts I have seen from you have this ugly fat red font and I cannot read it without getting a headage

Replying to iGuestInteresting, I have nine puters networked in my home and run both Intel and AMD.I find both to be useful but for gaming I use my AMD Phenom. Also remember that, yes a good graphics card and ram are needed but you should also have a good mother board and chipset, otherwise it doesn't matter how good your processor or graphics card is. Your computer will only be as good as your slowest part. -reply by rekrowten

Well When i game my choice of processor is the AMD Altholon 64 x2. I love AMD and i've ran with Intel most of my gaming life. Didn't really care for it. so i would go with an AMD, i think you will be much happier

AMD or Intel? For gaming...
What Is The Best Processor For Gaming?
I would say AMD 100% A phenom 2.5(x4) that is a nice baby, but a phenom 3.0(x4) that is just too good for me xD Go for AMD, Intel is expensive just because of the make and quality, but its not better then AMD. AMD is what you want! -reply by JvBoss

Intel To Deliver Quad-core Chips For Laptops This Year
(0) QUOTE Intel says it will ship quad-core chips designed specifically for laptops later this year.
The quad-core chips, most likely for desktop replacement laptops, will be based on the Core 2 Duo
microarchitecture and will ship in the third quarter, Intel officials said. Intel declined comment
on chip details, though enthusiast Web sites reported the chip is Intel's Core 2 Extreme QX9300.
The chips will be manufactured using the new 45-nanometer process. After Montevina Launch The

Processor Modes
(1) QUOTE Processor modes refer to the various ways that the processor creates an operating
environment for itself. Specifically, the processor mode controls how the processor sees and manages
the system memory and the tasks that use it. There are main three different modes of operation. The
8088 chip could only address 1 MB of system memory, and the original versions of Disk Operating
System created to work on it were designed with this in mind. This is called real mode. When a
processor is running in real mode, it has the advantage of speed, but it otherwise accesses ....

Overclocking My Processor N Motherboard

Everything was still normalk even after the crazy overclocking....Can you believe that. I do
respect the Intel Northbridge chipsets as they really allow you to do some very kool clocking to
