| | Hey guys,
As the title says above, I'm looking to buy a laser printer. I'm sacrificing color printing capability to bring the price down a bit. My birthday is coming up (June 14, 2008), and I'll be 20 years old . So, I'm looking for a laser printer with the capability for high capacity, as I'll be using it to print lots of digital media, stuff like ebooks, etc. Because I don't like reading mounds and mounds of text on my monitor. Plus, they're just useful to have.
So I'm wondering if any of the members of the forum can recommend me some different models of monochrome laser printers. My budget is around $200 max.
Thanks for your help.
Edit: Oh yeah, it would be nice if it played well with Linux, but I'm sure that can be worked out. |

HP have excellent Linux support through HPLIP, written by HP themselves. My HP all-in-one worked out of the box after I installed HPLIP, and I therefore highly recommend HP for use with Linux. Their LaserJet printers are highly rated across the web, and the few I have used have been reliable and good quality. http://h10010.www1.hp.com/wwpc/uk/en/ho/WF...-5343-5347.html

I think I decided on a Brother HL-5250DN. I was reading the reviews on Amazon and Newegg and found that a great number of people had bought the printer. And, it comes with LPR drivers and a CUPS wrapper for Linux . HP is a good company. I have a feeling though that they might overcharge for some of their products. Besides, I saw that the Brother printer had Duplex printing, and I had to have it! (Instantly!)

So right now I am using the Lexmark x5470. I just printed 2 pages worth of colorful pages (starting
at 100% full cartridge) and now it shows that I have 50% left of color ink! I've printed 10
pages with the same color and I stilled had a decent amount of ink--and this was 7 years ago. Since
this printer can't be returned any more because it's already past the 30 day return policy,
I'm going to be stuck with this for a while. However, can anyone recommend a good printer which
has long lasting ink (both for color and black). Thanks....

- Buying a new computer...Any recommendations? (11)
I am looking to buy a decent mild-gamer computer and I need some help with picking and choosing
parts. I will be using some high-end applications such as Solidworks (3d design program), Adobe
Photoshop, and Macromedia Flash. I want a computer that will be able to run these well, and be
stable enough that I won't need to reboot as much as I do with the current computer. I have no
need of a DVD writer, and have about 2500 NIS (New Israeli Shekels) to spend (roughly
$550-$600) not including the monitor. Any recommended specifications would be great, and

I'm looking for a step above 9800 Pro. I personally have a 9800 pro, and am not impressed with
its performance. That said, the unit in question, ie the one i'm going to replace, is in a
different system. I'm replacing a 9600 Pro which is oc'd/softmodded to xt. Even a 9800 would
be an improvement for that 9600...but i want to go one step higher. Recommendations please!
