I would like to say that they really dont look at individuals files one at a time - they put it all in a database and run searches for choice information. As such, 99% of you still have your privacy, assuming you dont do anything wrong with your computer, or else you may come up in a search. Also, if somebody hijacks your computer for malicious purposes the police dont just walk up to you and toss... read more.
The european commision seems to made a plan to log all internet activity by inhabtants of the european union, this means if you live in europe you would have zero privacy about what you are doing on the internet!!! The governement will know everything about: - Information stored on providers and web sites - Games you play - Websites you visit And much more!
Luckily for us, a petition has started to STOP these plans from happening! Sign it at: http://www.dataretentionisnosolution.com/ (More information about "Data Retention" there too) Lower Right Hand corner on your screen!
Hi Florisjuh, Couldn't agree with you more. Keep the gov't(s) out of our private lives !!! The US gov't is (has) aready moved in this direction with programs like Carnivore" etc. for "monitoring" (ie. snooping) on the citizens. The latest step taken was on July 05, 2005 when they decided to NOT to go thru with the planned relinquishing of control of the DNS core computer internet servers (ie. the ICAN servers). Control who get "permission" to have a website (or have it shut down) and you can censor what's said on the web. You can read all about it at www.tamingthebeast.com (an article) or do a search on wikipedia for "ICAN". Heads up people !!!
Oh my God, well, I've certaintly signed the petition!
I am a very private person and I do not want the government sneeking around my business, it would be so pathetic.
Yes, it could possibly help stop all these phedofiles and the child pornography, but most people don't do that kinda stuff, they use their computer for entertainment and other stuff.
This is not a cure for terrorism! Even if they monitor ALL of my activities on the internet, they will not accomplish anything, but will invade my privacy!
Probably every terrorist is not THAT stupid to send plain text e-mails!(their e-mails are probably well encrypted, hidden inside attachments or written in some sort of a "code language") Or to communicate in any other insecure way!
Getting the source of recent DoS attacks, viruses etc.? No way! Most DoS attacks are caused by malicious programs that are on another person's computer! (and that person doesn't know if it's even there) Viruses spread from an unknown source through innocent people’s computers unnoticed! Solution? Give the man a heart attack by bashing his front door open and point a gun at his face until he "surrenders peacefully" because “he broke the law”?
So, what are they trying to prove? That I ordered a pizza through the internet? That I am using windows update? That I'm currently downloading a Linux distribution?
So what?
"Ehm... Excuse me sir, but you recently checked your e-mail through GMail. GMail is a free to use e-mail service, you wouldn't happen to be a terrorist now, would you?"
"Sir, this is your 2nd order of pizza this week! You should know better than to eat junk food! May I recommend snacking on a carrot next time when you get 'the munchies'?"
What's next!? Well, I don't want to find out! I signed the petition as well! I sure hope that many people do the same!
Indeed. I agree that the governments should not be invading privacy, let alone, every moment on the internet, there are computers trying to connect to your computer. What for? To maybe place or retrieve cookies in your computer? To see what websites you been to? What files and programs you have on your computer?
I wouldn't want the government to know what websites I been to because it isn't really their business. They don't need to know that.
I signed the petition, but I fear it may not make much of a difference, but anyway thats not the point, the point is that this is clearly a breach of human rights and privacy, and no matter who it is proposing this it is still not the answer, I personally don't think it would even help to catch anyone doing anything, I mean 450 million people is a hell of a lot of people. But apart from that it is just not right so I signed the patition against it, and I hope it goes welland they see that they cant monitor (spy) on people. But hey at least they told us first.
Now, I know of one thing about petitions. They rarely work. I mean, I know of someone who started a petition to remove some dude's website. Now this website contained, well, his own opinions on certain topics, his own free speech. I guess people didn't like what he had to say and well, started a petiton and got thousands of signatures on it.
Even the dude they were protesting signed it. Is his website still up? Yes. Does the petiton still exist? Yes. Did anything ever change or happen to his website? Nope.
I myself could even start a petiton... say, to remove george bush from office. Would I get thousands of signatures? You bet. Would george bush ever get removed? Nope.
I shall sign this petition but I am unsure if it may do anything... ... but we sure can try!
I have one thing to say and that is keep your paws away from my stuff. I live in the United States so this shouldn't be a problem yet but I do not want this to happen to anyone.
I would like to say that they really dont look at individuals files one at a time - they put it all in a database and run searches for choice information. As such, 99% of you still have your privacy, assuming you dont do anything wrong with your computer, or else you may come up in a search. Also, if somebody hijacks your computer for malicious purposes the police dont just walk up to you and toss you in jail, but search your computer in much the same way to find out who did it (if it wasnt you then you are safe). Any bits of irrelevant data they find is not logged, talked about, or remembered - you are one of millions. Any relevant data is filed with the case to be viewed again as necessary during the case and only to be opened ever again if there is a purpose (make sense?) and the case needs more work. Oh, and btw I would like to add that some governments (US included) already are monitoring the general public using many methods, most people just dont realize that they are trying to cover their bases so it doesnt become a large scale issue. You can be monitored by software on your computer (spyware, spybots, and many other forms of malware), hardware (more rare to what Ive seen but it can and has been done), keyloggers and the like (software and hardware exist), external devices and storage media (pop in a cd and they could know which one - look it up), your cable/phone line, your isp (and yes they do give that information, and get $$$ for doing so), other clients, servers, online tracking spiders, email, search engines, general public hubs, proxies (they arent invincible), intercepters, and even satellites. The list could go on but im tired! Im just trying to say you are making way too big of a deal out of this, they arent trying to find out how many pizzas you order a week, or if you like to go to www.yummyfudge.com a lot. Its not just for terrorism but also for financial reasons, like the millions companies lose yearly on piracy.
In Australia we dont have this sort of thing going on just yet and thank god.
What we do in our own homes is our business. I can understand the desire for government authorities to want to monitor activities of people on the internet but if they are simply using it as a method of catching out criminals then for the sake of 99% of computer users it is inappropriate.
that's the nature of men kind. =P ... luckly i live in the US... and i believe invading others privicy is against the constitution.. .But then on the other side, it might do some goods. Like less people will go online meaning more people will actully get a life =P. .AHAHAH just kidding. But then that would lead to the destruction of online ads companies. And then we wouldn't be able to get free hosting from TRAP17 and we will all be doomed..... Yeah.. i might have over exagerated a little.
The US has the PATRIOT ACT. Probably the most vile attack on civil liberties known to man.
the government is the organization that we should not trust our private life with.... in fact the turmoil of the world is the product of a government system whos interest is not for its people but for the poeple who are in the position.....

Hi, I have noticed a bit of a problem with the forums here on Trap17. I don't know if this is a
problem with the Trap17 implementation, or with Invision Power Board in general, or with a mod that
is running on the forums here, and I'm sure that someone smarter than me can isolate the source
of the problem. What I have noticed firstly is that the link that is generated in the top right
corner of a post within a thread, the link to that particular post (I'll call that the linkback
link), sometimes links to the post itself, but often just links to the thread. T....
Ive posted a few topics in the internet forum now, and its really annoying that hosted members (any
member in general but i understand about spam protection) need to have their topics approved. Now i
understand that to protect from spam and what not some posts need reviewing but at the end of the
day, being a hosted member means two things: One is that im probably going to be an active and good
member of the forums and not spam anyway and Two: that if i do spam you can just take my hosting
credits/hosting away. So why do i need to wait for approval? the mods do a grea....

can say that i'm one of the very few people that actually like internet explore and this is
about my experience with internet explorer 8 for about the past three days. installation
installing ie8 was like installing most software’s from miccrosoft, long, since my internet

-Welcome to: Clearing your Internet Explorer Temporary Internet Files Tutorial-!
Attention!: As some of the members on here may know, it is possible to clear your Internet

engine. I always find this out for myself. Lets start: Ok, first we open up Internet Explorer,

??? i am stumped here. everyone knows already, i should hope, that blogging can help with your
internet marketing efforts. my question is this. what is the best for seo and internet
marketing.....to start a blog on my own domain that will compliment the content that will already be

M icrosoft has outlined some of the improvements it has made to the reliability of Internet
Explorer 8 prior to the release of the second beta version, pencilled in for the second hald of
august. The browser's performance and recovery have been two areas of focus according to
microsoft. The company said that a great deal of work has gone into making sure IE8 is more robust
in these areas. "Most users want their browser to work, recover smoothly after a crash, and display
the web correctly. Users are not as concerned with what causes the problem, whether that be ....
Hi. I would like to ask if anyone knows a solution to this. I currently have a windows vista
computer. It indicates it is connected to the internet. I am able to use Windows Live Messenger. But
when I try to surf the net with a web browser, such as opera and IE, it doesnt work. Any ideas? The
firewall is off, but browsers all face a problem accessing.....
I hate that peace of junk web-browser, and I don't know what THE HELL were Microsoft's
devs thinking when they made it and decided it to be bundled with the OS and not making it nearly
good enough as other variants. I can say, yes, I understand that a browser needs to be
incorporated into the OS, otherwise how could a man go and surf the web or download other browser?
/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /> But I can't
understand on what crack were the devs when they created IE 4 (and higher browsers, though....

New online services have been set up that transit your message from their station using a form on
their website. You can just Google Search for "free SMS over internet" or something else of the kind
/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" /> . One of the
reliable services I have found is text4free.net . They can send SMS on a huge range of providers
and even have a online provider checker - when you send an SMS you need to know the network provider
of the recipient and the online checker can do this for you! They also all....
The title really explains it all. After setting up connection sharing through LAN and on one
computer, I had a thought "well could I use this to share an internet connection from a wide
distance?". Well could I? So say now that my brother who lives a mile down the road who has no
internet connection, but a phoneline, Could he set up a connection going to my IP? I could use a
service like DynamicIP where theres a domain "summoned" towards my dynamic IP (or i could change to
a broadband company that gives me a static IP) The software I'm using is called CCProxy It&....
I AM VERY MUCH ADDICTED TO NET and my freinds used to call me net-eria(means a net being) i
couldn't concentrate on my studies at that time but i worked over it to overcome that addiction
now i only spend 10 hours a week on the net only. i think it is not addiction anymore relative to
50+ hours a week which i earlier used to spend on the net and that too on cheap sites. i think
maturity comes only after some experience. ....

Alright, I just found out about this very recently on my quest to get a wireless adapter for my Xbox
360. You can use the wireless connection from your laptop as an internet connection for the 360.
I'm putting this up because I had a lot of trouble with the DNS portion of this and no one has
posted up the way that I found to do it, so here I go. Supplies: Laptop connected to internet Xbox
360 Ethernet Cable (comes with Xbox, can use any other though) 1. First, have your xbox turned on.
Also have your PC on, since this next part is all with the computer. This will....
O.K. I found this software called opera mobile. I downloaded the trial version onto my phone and
started using it. (I was using internet explorer on my phone). It seemed ok but it went way slower
than internet explorer. And I started wondering why they even charge money for something thats worse
than a free software. So I started thinking maybe I set it up wrong. Has anyone else used it? btw,
here is a quote about the software: "Opera Mobile is a Web browser from Opera Software designed for
personal digital assistants (PDAs) and smartphones based on the Windows Mobile ....

I see little point in the "What browser do you use?" topic except to discuss the pros and cons of
different browsers. It's obvious that most people will use Internet Explorer because almost all
computers that are bought for people or sold to them are pre-loaded with Some version of Windows, in
which the only browser is Microsoft's own, Internet Explorer. And since a big proportion of
first-time computers users are not so computer savvy and do not become so because they do not really
need to, they will use what they are given. In the internet Cafe I am typing....

Hey, I want to rant about something - thats why I am here. Today we went to the mall and I went
past EB Games (they sell games hence the name). I picked up their catalouge and I was looking
through it while we were walking around the mall. I saw a page on the Nintendo DS. I have a Nintendo
DS (not a DS lite) and I think it's a really good system. On this page was the DS Internet
browser, you of course need to have a Wireless Net connection or a Wi-fi USB Adapator for the DS to
beable to connect to the net. I wanted a USB Connector anyway so that was no trouble. I wa....

First of all, psp can browse the internet with its simple browser. BUT! What you may not know
is that there is a bug where when you try to search or use a wireless lan connection (WLAN) the psp
may say something like: Internal Error (80410A0B) To fix this without any memory loss, take out
the UMD which is in the psp, and also take out the memory card. Next, go to settings, then system
settings and click restore settings, the psp may freeze up, but it is not broken, take out the
batter pack and put it back in, the settings should be restored and all should work.....
One of these major things that happend on the net all the time is on many only games there are
several people who claim to love each other but they say they dont know each other in real life. I
have a good question, how the heck is it possible to love someone on the internet that you do not
know, have never seen their face, never even been with them in real life. Just about every game I
play theres some wedding for people getting fake marriages but they don't even know each
other! Its like going up to a total stranger you do not know and asking them to marry you. ....
One day I was bored so I set a password for our Web security software, Trend Micro Internet
Security. I turned on the URL filter, and now, whenever my friends send me something funny that has
no porn or anything in it, I get the Blocked error. I am really annoyed by this; I can't change
other setting in the software too. Is there any way to either reset the password or remove it,
without uninstalling Trend Micro?....

I have a brand new computer running Windows XP 512 MB RAM, Compaq Presario 1.4Ghz Celeron. I am
connected to the internet with Comcast in Fremont. Web sites pages are slow to open up. The
performance problem occurs on many different sites, so I suspect the problem is on my end -- either
the computer or my internet connection. It often takes several seconds to open up a link. What
can I do to fix this? I am not one to be picky about speed, but net browsing is so slow that I
don't feel like using the computer any more. I've heard some people say that ....
Hi, I was wondering about having an internet service based from a satellite connection. This mostly
comes from this article: http://www.techweb.com/wire/networking/159401477 The service promises
432 KB per sec but I am wondering how might work as I've heard the connection speed for
satellites connections (phones) had a large delay due to the range of transmission. Would anyone
recommend this?....
I see as firefox as my main choice but its really up to you on what you choose: Firefox is an
open-source (Wired mag) Internet browser, thought up by a 18 year old (completed when 19) after many
frustrations with Internet explorer. It has a built in pop up blocker that has never once fail me,
and is 100% skinnable. It includes TABS, which is a fature that lets you see more than one page in
one window. Because of its new scent, noone has bagan to look for a way to deliver viruses thrrough
the browser. It has promoted its service by Spreadfirefox.com, which gives of webba....
