View Modes In Forums Like Ipb, Vbulletin

If you click the Forum Options button while viewing a thread on this forum, you'll see options for switching to Outline, Standard and Linear+ viewing modes. Can someone highlight the differences from Standard? And does anyone really use those other modes?
