I just added this new setup to my current computer (running Windows XP Pro) that makes everything appear as the new upcoming Windows Vista. Its pretty cool. It gives you visual appear of the boot screens, login screen, taskbars, icons, colors, fonts, and screensavers that Vista will be running. It literally makes your Windows XP look like Vista.
The program is called Vista Appearance Pack and is available for download here: Windows Vista Appearance Pack
I'd say install it. It gives you a cool insight as far as what to expect visually from Vista early next year.

Ahh. I've tried that before. Not really knew. Alot of people know about that.
Sadly, that only changes the icons. I myself prefer the Vista Beta Build RC2. It may be late to download now, but it's great.

well this isnt 100% to the topic but with window blinds you can change your whole windows interface similar to what this does. i use it and i really enjoy downloading new skins and changing the whole interface of my desktop. check it out at www.wincustomize.com

lol why can't people just wait for Vista to come out? that would be mucho easier in mi opinion. but ive seen the interface. it looks pretty pretty...heh pretty pretty.

Well seriously I don't see the point in all these windows customising into Vista. From past experience, what I have got with this desktop customising is nothing but problems, they will screw up my icons and GUI, so why should I waste my time with all this? Besides if a skin is very high quality, it would probably take more to load, after all you are using this program to manage the skins and that would be 1 more program on your startup. Sure the skins will make your computer beautiful, but if it is going to compromise my icons, performance or anything else, I would rather not go with it despite the aesthetic advantages

Why dont you get WindowBlinds and Install the Windows Vista Theme from WinCustomise.com.

Ive found that using windowblinds really gives a performance hit on the pc its running on.. I had longer start up times..pauses between navigating folders in explorer and some programs like IE also seemed to load slower as different icons etc were loaded up.. Sure it looked pretty but hey I preffer a faster pc!

I downloaded and installed the transformation. I think it looks pretty cool so far. The welcome screen I don't really care for. It looks empty except for the usernames. You would think the windows logo would be in there atleast. I like the new icons and tool bars. It looks really nice. It may take me a little bit to get used to though. It's a bit of a change from using Windows XP for the past few years but atleast everything is in the same place. I probably won't get the real Vista though for a while until I get another computer.

After downloading it, I attempted to install it but it stalled while creating/modifying a file, three times. I probably left a process running or something. Do you need WindowsBlinds or Stardock to install this? For people looking to update the GUI to their system without all the risk or if you cannot install this for any reason, then I recommend Royale. It's a Windows XP theme leaked from Microsoft or something but it's perfectly functional and I've been using it for months with no problems.

Yeah i have tried something similar to this before and it really isnt worth it that much. I mean it does give you a little sneak preview of what to expect but really they will probably end up, changing the theme anyways. Although im sure you can get a general idea of what to expect when you download the patch. I am hoping to have enough money to buy it when it comes out i just hope its worth it.

Oh. Well that wont work for me then. I have a VERY bad graphics card and very little ram (256) My computer is over 5 years old. I am surprised its still running. We have replaced parts here and there which has helped some.

This is the first time I'm going to say this about a Vista skin: it's not that bad. but I believe it might eat up your graphics performance? people outside M$ recommend 1GB of RAM and a quality graphics card (can't remember exact specs) for Vista. ----- Vista looks flashy, but apart from that, you're better off with Ubuntu. It's safer, more stable, and it's FREE! and it doesn't fully weigh down your computer.

windows blind is ok to use but it makes your computer really slow for me i use style xp it is much faster for me and my computer does not slow down because of it being there is a lot of vista styles and themes to that looks better than the vista style right now.

O...M...G...I tried that back when it was still 5.5 and it was already great then. 6.0 looks so FREAKING NICE...(note, 6.0 came out after the first&second pages of posts so their complains aren't false...5.5 was buggy...it took me 4 installations to finally get it working)...PEOPLE TRY 6.0...it looks promising... *i may update after install...=P*
