hi i was wondering if i could place some kind of code in my banners that i'm gonna put on different webpages and then once my viewers visit my page i could know where they came from so that i could concentrate on advertising in certain places. I use it myself, and I would recommend it to other people. It can track where your visitors are coming from, where they left, how long they stay on your site, how many visitors you get a day (unique, first time, and returning), what operating system they're using, what browser they have, their IP address, and oh so much more. Best of all, it's free!

I searched for a script that could count incoming hits, but my search failed, so try out Stat Counter, from what it looks like on their site it's pretty useful.

There is a tutorial and downloadable PHP script here that uses a mySQL database to store a list of what websites people have come from before visiting your site. There is also a convenient page to view a list of the pages that have sent people to your site. A vital tool in increasing traffic to your site.
