| | I was informed of this by PM, and i decided to look it up. Found several articles about it. It has been discovered that plants are capable of crying out for help.
QUOTE IT IS now possible to hear plants scream. Physicists at the University of Bonn have developed a device that listens to the stress responses of household plants. They hope it will reveal what makes so many geranium seedlings die after the long trip to Germany from their nurseries in the Mediterranean. What do you guys/gals think about this? |

I think that is really weird thing, I mean plants don't usually cry! Poor little plants, they maybe have been crying for help for millions of years and it is know that we find that out thanks to advanced tecnologies and people working at University of Bonn. So I think that the agriculture in all the world will get better and better because of discovering this thing.

I think if plants could talk...they would be COMPLAINING......imagining the poor forests that are logged everyday and the trees that are being cut down for furniture, houses, etc. Most of the time, we neglect our plants the most, we forget to water, fertilize, we let pests eat them, or sometimes we overwater. Most plants are exposed to the elements ,freezing cold, or blazing hot. One thing I know for sure, in my next life I don't want to be a plant.

OMG! I feel so shocked, just remembering the other day when I saw an abandoned auto dealership. There are some plants in the middle of the area where cars used to sit and wait for somone to buy them. They havent been watered in a long time and they look like they are trying to reach outside the dealership for some light or water. If someone probably used that device on them, I wonder what they would be screaming. That device is some good technology, I wonder what other types of species can scream. Imagine screaming fish, or insects.

That's really interesting, plants could be smarter than we think Not to mention if it became a commonplace device to check if plants were under too much stress, a garden would be more efficient and easier to maintain (i.e. no need for excessive watering). I guess the main use for it though is for commercial seedling transportation (which probably doesn't explore some of the more creative possibilities )

Plants And Water Loss
some info on growing plants in dry conditions (0) Transpiration is a plant’s loss of water, usually through the stomates of leaves. Plants have guard
cells to regulate the water loss. These guard cells open and close the stomates in response to
various environmental conditions; darkness, lack of water within the plant, and extreme temperatures
cause the guard cells to close the stomates while light, plentiful water, and favorable temperatures
cause them to open the stomates. Some stomates must be open even in unfavorable conditions so that
the plant can take in carbon dioxide. Dryland farming is the growing of crops....
If You Live In Maine You Are Paying For A Nuclear Safety Adviser Yet You Have Had No Nuclear Plants Since 1997
(1) The nuclear safety adviser in Maine is being paid $71,000 a year and yet there is no nuclear
plants in Maine. Maine lawmakers were supposed to remove the funding for the nuclear safety adviser
position yet again but the funding was snuck back in last minute. The crazy thing however is that
there is no such post. In 2005 the Legislature cut the position however they did not cut the funding
for it so the nuclear safety adviser is being paid a $71,000 salary plus benefits and office
expenses totaling $118,000. In 2004 an agreement was reached where by the ....

Energy From Green Plants?
(6) Anybody ever wondered about this? Green plants undergo photosynthesis to produce oxygen. In the
process, water is splitted through photolysis and this results in production of two hydrogen atoms
and one oxygen atoms. The oxygen is released, and hydrogen combined with carbon dioxide to form
carbohydrate. My idea is to trap the hydrogen before it is used up and funnel it to a storage tank,
which then can be burnt to generate electricity. Theoretically, this could be done but then tiny
nanoscopic devices will need to be integrated into the photosynthetic cells itself. The....
Stressed
Leading to my uncontrollable anger (6) Hello! Before I start, you might want to know a little about the situation I am in right now. I
am in college and sometimes am very, very stressed. This could lead me to become very angry and just
hit random stuff. When I was in my early, middle, and late teenage years, I was always constantly
angry at nothing. When I think back about what I was angry about, there was nothing to be angry
about. But during that time I was angry, I just can't stop. I just get so mad. Weird? I know.
Sometimes, I even feel depressed but I know I'm not because I have such a good ....
Stressed Out Friend
(5) Here I am again, asking people's opinions that I don't know. One would think that I'd
know better by now, but I like reading different points of view. This time it's not about me.
My friend Autumn is pretty confused about this situation with this guy in her school. I'm not
living in the same state as her, so I can give her just as good of adviceon the situation as any of
you could I think. There's this guy she goes to school with who's in the same class as her.
Last year, she told his roomate (they, like me, attend a boarding school) that she....
