My Review Of Megaupload.com - File Sharing Service

I'm sure most of you have heard of Megaupload, a service which enables you to upload your files to their server and share it with other people for free. I use such services so that I can share unlicensed manga through my site. Well, here's my review, and a bit of a rant at the end...
UPLOAD: 9/10 It's so easy! All you have to do is click on the browse button and choose the file you want to upload. Then, fill up the other options in the bottom when necessary. Send it and watch it go! There's also a status bar showing the progress of your upload. Then a link shows up after you finish sending. Pretty easy huh?
DOWNLOAD: 4/10 Now how about the person you're sending to? They click a link and have to click to proceed. Then, (New and horrible feature) unless they have an IP based on the US, UK or Canada, they get unlimited downloads! Cool, huh? Too bad if you get an error message saying all the slots for your country are full. It seems that they base it on how much your country has helped out with Megaupload. Not very handy. I hate this personally, because I DON'T HAVE A US, UK, or Canada based IP!!! It's horrible! Plus, there's not a very big chance that you wouldn't get a slot. It's horrible... You also have to wait for some time before getting your download. Not that I mind it, but the annoying thing is, once your IP is not based on the afformentioned countries, you probably won't be getting your download.

The upload was OK, but the download area pulled it down.
I know this isn't a very long review, but isn't that what you mostly look for in filesharing sites? The upload and download rating? Anyway, I've been disappointed with the service. I only stuck with it for so long because the other services time-out when I upload something. I just wish that they'd discontinue that IP-filtering. It's really annoying and it causes grief for people who don't have the "privilege" of living in the US, UK or Canada...
Ya there isn't really a point of using an upload site if people can't download it pretty fast. It would be better the other way around to have a slower upload than download and less problems with download because that is what you are trying to do. Give the people downloading it a nice fast easy download. Thanks for the review I will make sure to remember it if I am ever looking for an upload site.
Well, good thing they don't put any hourly restrictions. My (cough, not so intelligent) friends don't know how to use Rapidshare, but MegaUpload is a bit more simple (suitable for their cough simple cough mind )
Don't know if that's the case now, but when I was downloading something from Megaupload.com a few months ago, the maximum speed was about 7-9KBps(!) Asked a friend with a higher bandwidth connection to try and download the same file as I did, and he got the same results. BTW: Nobody mentioned the maximum upload file size: 250MB (used to be 500MB).
Hm, yeah I forgot about that... Maybe because I don't really care since I don't upload stuff that big... Anyway, Megaupload sucks for the downloaders... It's hard to get your download at times, and it could be very very slow... I should be changing to a new one soon, but I need a filesharing service that doesn't timeout when I upload... :/ Plus, some of them don't accept zip files anyway...

Not a very good assumption. You can't go around stereotyping people using such a service... I didn't even know that Megaupload's download speeds are slow since I'm on dial-up, and have always been slow... *cough* Anyway, I agree that it sucks. I'm currently looking for a better service that won't make your files expire (Downloads every 30 days or so for making the file stay in the server are fine) and one that won't time-out on me when I upload... I wonder if you guys know any good ones. Expiry and time-outs are big issues for me.
I think these kind of sites are goig more and more difficult and annoying each day. A banner around here, a confirmation code around there, wait a countdown, etc, choose free or premium download... what happened with the easy system of yousendit? upload, download and thatīs all.
Anyway I think there is a high rate of piracy downloads in megaupload but itīs like burning CDs, you know that a lot of people duplicate records, games, programs, etc but itīs not always that simple.
Yea, unfortunately megaupload does have some very frustrating download speeds. Very rarely do I get a speed that goes over 25 kilobytes per second. It starts of nice, but then rapidly declines. I also noticed that from time to time the download freezes up and you have to go back and restart the download, very annoying. But then again, it is a free service so we can't complain too much. I usually try to use rapidshare when I can, but sometimes people favor using megauploads because there is no hourly limit, even though it takes longer than an hour to download the average file from their site. Well, those were my two cents. Anyone else?
Megaupload hates me. It's premium service is great (just like rapidshare). I know because I've used their happy hour feature before. But later, their happy hour feature became very picky on IPs too, and as my IP is based in Asia, there is never a time where I could download a file from megaupload. So I absolutely dislike this service. I don't like the fact that they use flash on their website too.
yeah i agree with forbez yeah the download speed of meaguplaod is really damn slow and when ever i go on meagaupload to download something it always says your country download limit is limited and you can't download the file right now. so wait i'm not sure any one download form it.. anyways i think rapidshare is a lot better than megaupload.
I really dislike Megaupload.com and I agree with you the uploading is 10 times better then the download. I guess that's why it's called MegaUPLOAD and not MegaDOWNLOAD.
I didn't know about the IP country detection determinating if your allowed unlimited or limited download limit. That's stupid in my opinion, just because you live somewhere else you shouldn't be forced to have limited download limit. Isn't that racism? Must be some sort of discrimination.
I think that file-sharing sites need to have their "rules", so to speak. What I don't understand is why these sites need to have so restrictions... It would be faster to just E-Mail things... The most part of File-Sharing sites are not that good... File-Sharing sites should have easy access to their files and what Megaupload does, is just stupid. They make it really hard to get to a certain file.
I don't think that there is any File-Sharing Site that is perfect but Megaupload is really bad. It should have a much much better organization... I think that getting a site where you can host tons of MB is great. If you google File-Host you will find some pretty decent stuff. I had a file-sharing site that could hold up tons of MB and had no Download limit. That's how the File-Sharing Sites should be.

Megaupload sucks. I'm a premium user, because I wanted to download movies so I paid premium membership. 5 out of 6 dvds have files temporary not available and have been for almost 2 weeks, still not available. I contacted megaupload user support twice and they did not reply. They let user upload fast speed because people upload pirate dvd movies, and user like me pay for megaupload to download. Anyone knows where to report megaupload that it is a place for pirate upload dvd movies. Please reply. I will report them. Megaupload sucks big time!
To any individual whom is planning on developing an account with Dot5Hosting (which is a website
hosting provider), and utilizes MySQL databases for their website, I would not recommend it...
Dot5Hosting promises you the best - however, they give you the worst support system ever (you have
to wait several hours or days to get a reply), a VERY small portion of the server, a
max_user_connection limit of 10 (meaning if ten or more people on your website are using the SQL,
you will frequently recieve repeative error notifications. Back to the support again - a major aspe....
A relatively unkown feature offered by Google is it's web accelerator tool. The application
speeds up the loading of pages to save time while surfing on the internet. I usually don't post
reviews (mainly because I'm too lazy), but I've had an interesting experience with the

Vodafone NZ is the worst mobile phone operator I have had experience with. Customer Service is the
worst help service available having to make you wait over 20 minutes to get connected to a
representative. The support team does not help you in anyway. If you forget a security pin they say
"Um...okay are sure you don't remember?" which is a such a inappropriate question when their
website says call customer service to retrieve your pin. Their website support does not even
include some handset models, which is completely mindless as the phone is compatible on the ne....

Recently I bought an xbox (The original one not the 360) and a Xbox Live 12-Month Subscription card,

I tried to download a few files from megaupload today; usually, i'm able to download 2 to 3
files which are about 200-250mb each. Now when i tried to download the second files, it says i have
exceeded my free download limit... So i went to the main page to check for new updates. It is true
that they reduced from 500mb to 250mb bandwidth for free users. Yeah, i know bandwidth cost money
too, but megaupload has been reducing their download limits ever since they became popular. At
first, even though the speed wasn't as great as it is now, but there wasn't any....
The basic specs of this laptop are amazing for the price, with an Intel Pentium-M 760 2.0GHz

I have been a Comcast faithful ever since they came to Oregon. Until now, I've had no

Now I have had SBC Yahoo! DSL for a year now and I previously had it for a year so I have had it
for 2 years total. Now I really like the dsl and it fast and best of all cheap! Now you can get

I am reviewing a game i play often called Virtual Magic Kingdom Web Page . This is a game made by
disney which you walk around the disney theme park. This is a great game. I am CoolmanJosh on it and
it is awesome. First you create a character in a disney theme park what better then that, now you
walk around the park and can talk to people. Second you can play some very cool games which is
cool! Then take pics of hidden mickeys, get credits, make rooms and so much more. I play this

To those of you that know company : Rogers that provides both internet and TV and even more. When
you are a customer for a long time with them you always get a bunch of stuff cheaper than other
people and you also have to make them see that u want it cheaper or in some cases free lol i had to
find out the hard way. When they released cable extreme internet connection both me and my friend
were both long time users and we both had same old crapy modems. So what do i do... i call Rogers
