| | For all of my boards, I've always used phpbb. I love its versatility, the skins that are created for it, and its capabilities as a free BB app. I do realize, however, that there are many BB options available. Has anyone else used phpbb, and would be able to compare it to the opther solutions available out there? I thought about trying another one, but the amount of time and effort to transfer over has always bept me from trying it. |

i prefer invision pro board over anything. they have very nice mods, and skins are about the same compared to phpbb, vb, and things like that. i dont really like invison free tho, i dont like not having a database to change the skin and stuff :-p but my second choice would be phpbb idk why i just like it better than vb

PhpBB sucks. Invisionboard is easy to use, setup, host and maintain. The best if you've got some cash is Vb, but if you've got some cash.

i used phpbb... i think it is simply and easy to used i guess... so i used it in the first place...and continue... i might try invision board for future site.. but for now i would continue with phpbb... i dun really think about paying for them...so Vb is not my option.... maybe someday when i have some cash in hand i might try ... but the functions and etc sounds good to me...except i need to pay for it.,,, so depends what sort of board u need it for...

the great thing about phpbb is that its free! you have to pay for an invision power board or vBulletin board. phpbb is easily customizable, easy to use for admins and users as well invision board - you have to pay for, but its also easily customizable and has great features. this seems to be the most popular choice tbh vbulletin - again u have to pay for it. if you have a business site, specially one doing e commerce, i suggest this one... makes u look rich and respectable lol. it seems pretty customizable, but i dont like the features for the users. also i havent used this a lot either (as an admin), but tahts just wot i tihnk. one forum ive got my eye on is one called ProBB, http://www.probb.net . its not yet released are there are no public beta/test versions, but it seems to have the normal features of any board. also the code is valid (you dont get this on any of the 3 mentioned here), which also means it loads pretty fast as well.

I've used PHPBB, because it's easy to moderate, but nothing better than Invision Power Board, it's great! alot of mods for it, alot of skins for it (not easy to find on the www) and it's just cool when i tried it first, i just closed it and stopped, but tried again and then i noticed how easy it is after you get how it works! just try it, it's great! I used SMF board too, found it on fantastico, but i didn't like it, doesn't look too good, no mods, no skins (yet!) and i just didn't like the administrating/moderating. Right now i'm reading through the 'probb' board mrkill47 suggested, i'm gonna try thatone aswell -edit- waiting for the probb release

I am currently using phpBB because it is all I need. There are enough hacks and it is easy to make your own template and design your forum exactly as your page. I agree that Invision Board and especially vBulletin are better but small sites, like mine, don't need "space" options. I need 2/3 categories and 4/5 forums in each categorie. But, big forums (for example, trap17) are much easier to moderate using IB or something similar. Just look how much forums and categories are here and try to imagine that on phpBB. Total Chaos ! Greetz!

QUOTE(karlo @ Feb 6 2005, 03:11 AM) I don't like how forums appears when using vBulletin. It's like it's not professional. In IPB, it's like you have a forum that is very expensive! So, vBulletin is the answer? Is there any version of vBulletin that is premodded? How can I get vBulletin for free? I have no money! With the right portal software, and a nice skin, vB looks very proffesional . A free vB download used to be at my forum, but I removed it a while back, heh.

www.phpbb.com has been hacked yesterday or today, and its not acessible now you can't see it now, but here's the message they left: If we could have conscience of the as much as our life is ephemeral, perhaps we thought twice before of throw away to the opportunities, that ourselves happy and do the others happy.many flowers are reaped early too, Some even still in button seeds that never sprout and there is those flowers that live the entire life, to that petal by tranquil petal, lived, if deliver to the wind.but the peopleBy as much as time will be decorating that éden, and neither those flowers that were planted to our around.
And neglect take care little of ourselves, of the others we sadden us for small things and we lose minutes and precious hours.
We lose days, sometimes years.us we silence when we would must to speak, we speak too when we would must stayed in silence.
Do not we give the arm that so much our soul asks, because somewhat in us stops that approach. do Not we give a loving kiss “because we are not usual with that”, and do not we tell that we like because we find that the another knows automatically what do we feel.
And it passes the night and arrives the day, the sun is born and goes to sleep and we continue the mesmos, closed in us.claim than do not we have, or we find that do not we have sufficient, we Charge of the others, of the life, of us mesmos, us consume.Costumamos compare our lives with the of those that possess more than the people.
And we experienced to compare with those that possess less?
That would do a big difference!
And the time passes..
We pass for the life, not live.survive, because do not we know to do another one thing to that, unexpectedly, we wake up and we look pra backwards.and then we will ask us: and now?
Now, today, still it is time of reconstruct something, of give the arm friend, of a loving word say, of thank for what do we have.
Never it is been old too or youth too for love, say a word gentil or do a gesture loving.not look backwards what passed, passed.
What do we lose, we lose.
Look at front!
Still it is time of appreciate the flowers that are entire to our around.still is time of come back itself for God and thank for the life, that even ephemeral, still is in us.
Think..
It lose not more! ...

phpBB is at http://www.phpbb.com (Completely free) InvisionPowerBoard is at http://www.invisionboard.com (Free trial) Both of them can be installed on the Add-On Scripts page in CPanel. (phpBB 2.11 and IPB v1.2) I've always used phpBB. I think it has a reputation for being easy, but I use it because I'm used to it and I know 'where' everything is and how it works. It is easy to mod and skin (especially with EasyMOD), and I know enough to write my own mods in and edit templates and such. But I suppose that's the same with most boards after months and months of experience with them. I'm also a bit adverse to most other forum admin panels. vBulletin looks good, but I am not going to pay for a forum. (Although if you really can make money at it...)

QUOTE(dropout21 @ Feb 6 2005, 11:01 AM) i used phpBB for a while, but i always added the modifications and i found almost none were ezmod compatible as well as alot conflicted with eachother, so eventually i screwed up my site enough for it to not allow users to register because it could not find the visual confirmation pictures and there were more errors similar to that. eventually i switched (and am still currently using) phpNuke platinum. it has over 200 pre-installed mods and has some kool themes/skins and is just as versitile as phpBB. you can even get templates and that proted from phpBB to phpNuke. www.techgfx.com phpNuke is good... But I suggest that you must not use any CMS software because it's not challenging. Challenge yourself. Challenge your PHP knowledge. Create a PHP-based website from scratch... Your PHP knowledge will also improve....
