Opera Is Now 100% Free! - All ads removed

Amezis
Yesterday, Opera became totally free, and the ads are now removed from the browser!

They have just renewed a contract with google, and therefore, they decided to remove the banner. They are now trying to get more people using the browser, and they've obviously found a better way to earn the money.

They will maybe grow as fast as Firefox did, who knows? It is the worlds fastest browser (Yes, faster than Internet Explorer AND Firefox), and it is even more secure than firefox.
As firefox, Opera supports tabbed browsing and pop-up blocking, and integrated search possibility. There is even a built-in POP/IMAP built-in client there.

Oh just a small addon to the first post:

You will have to re-download Opera if you already have it, if you want to remove the ads.

I dont think that it is faster than firefox...I've used firefox and opera both and I have noticed the difference in loading of the pages in both...firefox was better than opera...I dont say that opera is not good but somehow I never liked its interface and I have always loved Firefox and after that IE...most of the people must be thinking that why I chose IE..and the only reason behind chossing IE is that it is still the most used browser in this world and also most of the sites are still made keeping IE in the mind...now as far as the reason behind making OPERA ad-free is that they want to compete with Firefox...because everyone know how fast the firefox is picking up and they are left way behind...even if they are older players.

I've used Mozilla (Firefox) for about 6 months now and really enjoyed it.
I've downloaded a copy of Opera and I'll try that for a while to see how it goes.

Thanks for the tip...

i don't think opera is compatible with all web pages, and how secrue it is? the tabbed window is great, and so is the popup blocker, but they can be turned off right?

No Opera is considered the fastest browser and it is compatitble with all websites. They abide by the same standards as Firefox so if a page is written only for IE it would look funny in Opera as well as Firefox since they abide by W3C standards unlike IE. I use all three of those browsers to test sites that i design to ensure compatibility but many do not which is unfortuante for us webpage viewers

Hmmm...looks like I may give Opera another try. I used to use it a few years ago but the ads were a bit too much for me to continue using it. I really like the new version and the fact that I can customize the look.

They abide by the same standards as Firefox.

Opera does for the most part but it also has some slight differences in its interpretation of what the standards mean. Opera also has included more support for CSS3 than other browsers so far. I like Opera and use it for my email and webmail browsing, but prefer Firefox due to its more advanced extensibility. But like you, I use a variety of browsers for testing.

In my sincere opinion,

The best browser is AVANT BROWSER.
  1. it is fast for surfers
  2. Based on IE, so renders the page perfectly
  3. As a designer, I like it because I see my pages showing up perfectly on it. On Firefox and opera, the colors and Javascript don't work as intended. For eg. Check out the Javascript ticket beside google search box.
  4. Secure
  5. Tabbed Interface
  6. Supports Mouse gestures (my main fav. feature)
  7. Has a good tool to remember passwords and can share it with mozilla too.
  8. Many plugins like Adblocker, proxy etc are inbuilt. And many skins included.

The reason that some sites looks weird in opera, is because the webmaster don't test their site in Opera. The average webmaster tests their site in IE and FF, and a few webmasters doesn't even test in FF.

All sites should absolutely work good in Internet Explorer, Opera and Gecko-browsers.

Probably you didnt use Opera for long. Because of the features Opera has, it requires more configurations. Some standard ones like those featured in Firefox are easy to configure while some like the integrated mail, irc and rss requires a little more configuration. This might probably why you didn't like the interface.

Some might say about compatibility of Opera, I will have to agree with this. I've used Opera and found some sites that are meant for IE didn't appear as it supposed to in Opera. However Firefox displays them correctly. That's for some websites only. For about 2 years using Opera, I should say less than 1% of the time I've visited sites that looked arkward on Opera.

Speed wise, I have to and strongly agree that Opera is indeed the fastest browser on Earth. Its too fast as compared to Firefox and IE. If you disagrees, probably again you didn't use Opera long enough to feel that incredible speed. I had both Opera and Firefox installed and I use Firefox for my school work as my school sites are meant to be viewable on IE, and the rest was on Opera. I can feel the sudden drop of speed on Firefox when I switched from Opera for my school work. I've used Firefox to surf other sites out of the school domain so it cannot be that the school's providing low bandwidth of anything related. It is just, and stated by Opera, the fastest browser on earth.

What's more on Opera, you can leave all your webpages on the tabs without closing them when exiting Opera. When you launch Opera again, all your sites come back to its positions. Firefox cannot do this.
Opera now includes a text-to-voice speech feature which Firefox also cannot do.
Opera can also identify itself as IE, Firefox, Netscape or any other browsers when scripts counters on the sites are made to record visitor statistics. Firefox cannot do this.
Opera has integrated email client, RSS and IRC chat client. Firefox doesn't have them.
Opera can retrive and reload closed webpages without searching the history. Firefox can't do this.
Opera can recover all the configurations, downloads, webpages and cookies upon any failure that cause the program to close, all back into the state before the error occurs without saving any states. Firefox cannot do this.

Many more features in Opera that your cannot find in Firefox. You got to accept Opera and take some time to use it to feel the power of it. Using it just a few minutes doesn't display its features, rather showing it as a mere web-browser.

Try it, you will prefer Opera more than Firefox.

I've been using Opera for a while, and am used to the interface and features. I find it much faster to use than most other browsers - not so much in loading or rendering, but in opening, alternating between and closing different pages. Being a 'computer geek', I like to be able to open, switch to, skim over and close pages quickly, and Opera makes it easy to do so, as well as incorporating several other time-saving features. There are a couple of things I don't like, however - one is that it gets a little sluggish when you have a lot of URLs in your history, and the other is that from time to time, it crashes when trying to display certain pages. Apart from those two little problems, I would recommend Opera to anyone.

Anyway, I'm tired so I have no idea what I just mumbled about. But I think that Opera being free is an excellent move, and with a bit of luck, will increase it's current userbase past it's present 0.003% of Internet users.

I've seen some tests that actually shows that Internet Explorer and Firefox are exactly at the same speed, and Opera were fastest on most of the points.

Firefox is not faster than Internet Explorer, but it shows the page while it is loading, unlike Internet Explorer, which waits until it gets all of the HTML before displaying it.

Opera is an internet browser, just like Internet Explorer, Firefox, Safari etc. It has tabbed browsing and popup-stopping too, so you can have many pages open in the same window. Also, when you close Opera, you can (if you want to), open where you ended, with all the sites you had open.
