it is a fact. Do you often here that you always need to patch your OS on Linux, no (unless the distro is crappy). If you configure Linux properly or use distros like SuSE or Fedora Core, you barely need to detest them. It will work better than Windows and as easy as Windows.xboxrulz

Well, Ive had very little experience with linux, but a whole lot with windows. In high school, I use to go to a local college for a program I was in that prepares me for college and pays SAT and college application costs and other stuff. We had a class that we use computers and we used linux, but it was so limited due to restrictions and stuff, and it didnt have java. On those computers, I had bad experiences with linux, but Im planning on learning about linux and seeing how it works, along with Unix, cause I hear they are similar, and Im gonna take a class on Unix because it seems like a pretty good OS. Ive been using windows all my life, and it seems like most every computer that you dont build yourself has some type of windows on it. So of course all I really know is Windows. Also, programming seems a little more complicated on linux, or something, but I dont really know. I really want to learn Linux one day though.
well as long as windows is the standard os for computers i will stick with it, but if a new os takes over the compuer market i will probably go with that, my only problem with linux is the lack of knowledge with many people, i mean when the computer has problems and i need the computer quick i dont wanna sit there and try and solve something for hours on end to realize i can't do it, atleast for windows there are people around who can help me if i have problems and i wont have to go to an IRC chat or to a support forum. I mean without a computer how are you suppose to connect to the interent...
I chose Windows, because the most programs only work on windows.
And many games are only made for windows. If you chose Linux, you chose for security and for your money I think you can make windows as safe as Linux, by installing the right programs. The right Anti-spyware, virusscanner, firewall and Mozilla Firefox of course I don't know what the right programs are, but I think that they exist
Well, of course I choose Linux over Windows because of the public relations with the Linux community which I'm part of. Linux is great, I must admit, that's I run campaigns to suppress Windows. I'm currently trying to run Windows-free; which is hard if you're a type of guy that spent 3/4 of your life using Windows and Macintosh (and which I am one). I trimph over using Windows because I believe I can do it and I don't need a rich person controlling what I can or cannot do. In this case, I support Linux for cost, public relations, freedom and most important, what it can do for me.
That's IMO, depending on what you want to do with your system, you decide. xboxrulz
If you don't want to install Linux just yet but wanting to try it, download KNOPPIX here.
QUOTE What is KNOPPIX®? KNOPPIX is a bootable CD with a collection of GNU/Linux software, automatic hardware detection, and support for many graphics cards, sound cards, SCSI and USB devices and other peripherals. KNOPPIX can be used as a Linux demo, educational CD, rescue system, or adapted and used as a platform for commercial software product demos. It is not necessary to install anything on a hard disk. Due to on-the-fly decompression, the CD can have up to 2 GB of executable software installed on it. Quote from: www.knoppix.com xboxrulz
I don't see a point for anyone to use Linux on their home computers (ie non servers). Seriously, all the programs I run are made for windows. Ya, there are alternative programs that look and feel (almost) like the same windows programs but they are simply NOT COMPATIBLE. If I try to send a document to my client that ISN'T MS Word, they would have a fit.
What about games? You are royally screwed when it comes to games because most of the new games that come out only run on Windows. Most people who run Linux have to run MS as well. So, I don't see the point in having both operating systems. I just use the one that does everything I need. I don't NEED Linux. Also, in terms of stability, I have left my computer running for literally weeks and it has never crashed or even slowed down. Yes, there are memory leaks and stuff but the memory can be reclaimed. I have NEVER had a blue screen with XP. I have never had a virus, never been hacked, and never had spyware. I am totally satisfied with XP.
trust me. linux is not gonna be dominating anything anytime soon. Linux has not made even a DENT in the consumer market which drives probably about 75% of operating system sales. I bet you can't even name ONE computer manufacturer which supplies OEM Linux for the consumer market. The server market is dominated by Linux, yes... I am not arguing this. But, this has NEVER been a windows area. Linux is basically a dumb down package of Unix which is what most servers run on in the past. So, it isn't really a stretch for people to use Linux on servers. They already know what it is.
First of all, I know about "whine" software and other emulators to run windows programs. MY point is WHY? What is the point of emulating when you can just run it for real? Why should I waste my time TRYING to get stuff to work when I know it will work in Windows? You think that it will be more stable in linux? If MS Word isn't stable, running it in linux isn't going to stop it from crashing. Next, I don't care if XP is $100 because it comes with the computer. I can't deduct the value of XP if I don't want it. (I am not talking cheap ass clones... I have a laptop.) And, there is always the pirate option (not that I endorse piracy). So, am I really paying $100 for XP?? NO. Only retail versions are $100. OEM versions are built into the price of the comptuer and is less than $100. In fact, most of the time.. XP is basically thrown in for free. Also, linux is not as stable as people like to say it is. Linux CRASHES TOO. IF you say no, you are a liar. It's just like MAC's who claim to never crash and is very stable (OSX is based on linux). But, I know many people with macs who's systems crash many times more than my XP. Finally, I KNOW why linux "fanatics" like linux so much. It is simply because they have a hatred/jealousy of MS and they like to feel superior. The linux fanatic likes to use linux as a STATUS SYMBOL in their circle of acquaintances. If you are in IT you MUST use linux or you will be shunned. If you know anything about computers you MUST use linux. I am better and smarter than the average consumer because I know about linux and I use linux. It is simply a way to look down on the average user. Deep down you know this to be true but you may not admit it. I don't care. What linux "people" don't understand is that windows is LESS HASSLE, LESS WORK, and is COMPATIBLE with the most software. People DONT CARE that linux is better when what they have works for their NEEDS. Why would I want to waste time trying to "make" my programs run on linux?? That is why Linux is not going to "dominate" the market soon. Get real. 90% of people don't even know what it is, let alone use it. Here's a lesson for you. In business the best product rarely wins. There are so many examples of this. The market dictates what is successful. If the market doesn't accept your product, I don't care if it can give you eternal life... it won't be successful. Linux will NEVER be mainstream unless they start looking at the product from the business perspective.
I have on my PC Windows98 SE, WindowsXP and UBUNTU Linux.
Windows 98 SE is the best for games. You can play almost all game with them. I use Windows XP when play music or any kind of media files. Linux is best if you have some work with servers or downloading/uploading files on Internet. Latest Entries

From personal experience, i would have to say that Windows is better to use then Linux.
I use a Windows XP system at home and i find it so easy to use, with great features. We have Linux computers at my school, and i detest using them. Linux is said to have better security then Windows, but i don't know this for a fact. QUOTE(alexia @ Apr 10 2005, 04:16 PM) OH My good winodws Vs Linux Its Old Question ! Linux doesn't require a software to customize the window system. I use KDE which is very customizable. Linux can also play games as long as someone programs for it and it can play any media files. Since Linux is opensource, and most of its software are $0; so it saves you alot of money. Don't get fooled by Microsoft's Get the Facts ads. xboxrulz
Well i voted for Windows because that is what i use most of the time because it is the easiest way to do work at college. The reason for this is because of the software needed for my development classes along with sharing files with other people. However, i try to use linux for web development and for most other things when i am not at school because it is free and can be optimized very easily once you know what you are doing. So it really just depends on the amount of money you have and or your purpose for the computer
