Samba: This package allows free operating systems to act as file servers for computers running various versions of Microsoft Windows. It has shown itself to be faster and more secure for this purpose than current Windows server products. The website for this project is http://www.samba.org.
I don't think anyone interested in it but Xserver is good piece of software that allows you to run windows application into Linux.Samba is useless for the OFF-line users.Where 69%of the computer users are not connected to internet.

Hi mahesh2k & all, Nice post. Just in case you'all might think that linux software is somehow less etc.. here's some thoughts to consider. I'm looking for a light linux distro, but something decent, that will only run on about 128-256
ram, CPU 1.8GHz, that has office (probably open office or abiword) that won't need more than
about 2-4GB hard drive. (Something like puppy linux) Just to run in an emulator. I'm asking
because there might be a killer distro out there that I haven't heard of or found that someone
might know about. If not puppy linux will be great for it. Thanks....
I recently installed PEAR into a PHP environment on a Linux machine, and as I did the installation I
wrote down the steps for future use. I thought it might be useful for others. PEAR stands for PHP

and run the script: php go-pear.php QUOTE Welcome to go-pear! Go-pear will install the

I have been using LAN surfer and Network scanner in Windows , These software's are used
to scan the LAN over a given range of IP addresses and then display the folders shared by each
computer available on LAN in the specified range... now i have switched to Linux... Can you tell me
any GUI software which would do this task in Linux ubuntu 7.04. I tried nmap but i did not
find it that useful...i think it does only port scanning and stuff but does not display the files

I was wondering.. I love trap17 and its a great way to actually host a decent forum.. but.. would it
be possible to also host gameservers? they shouldn't be that big and it depents on ur credits
how many slots you've got.. for example: I've got 49 credits, and a regular slot for a
random game costs 7 credits. Do the maths, its a 7-slot gameserver. If u want a 30 slots gameserver,
you'll need 210 credits for 1 month.. I can promise you that hosting gameservers will gain
trap17 loads, and i mean loads of new members. I know, its more expensive, since it t....
QUOTE All websites must be in English to qualify for free hosting. We do this to ensure that
Accounts are legal and have permissable contents. I totally agree with the need to ensure that
accounts are legal and have permissable contentes, but I believe there's a big portion of forum
members who speak English as their second language, including myself, and so, I assume some time
they may need free hosting in their native language. So, why can't Trap17 host sites in those
non-English languages which have a large community in the forums? I'm sure that t....
Hi, I was searching the free ASP.NET hosting, but I didn't found any really good hosts. However,
I found lots of good free hosting sites(like trap17) without ASP.NET support. Now I'm wondering,
why there is only few free ASP.NET hosts with such poor plans? You may say, that ASP.NET requires
Windows OS, but it isn't true, there is such tool named mono, which allows run NET technologies
on linux OS and it is free(as far as I know). Then why hosts doesn't interested in ASP.NET? A
lot of people searching for free good ASP.NET hosting, I just can't underst....

Hey Everyone, It is the 4th. Celebration time. While I am sitting here waiting to go to the big
city and watch the Fireworks I am messing with my WinTV and Razr V3. Man the bluetooth under Ubuntu

computer automatically by walking out of or into the proximity of your computer. Of course you have
to have Ubuntu installed and a bluetooth USB or built in adapter but once you are set it is really
cool. Kind of off topic but I am messing with my WinTV HVR USB too. I will do another p....

Hi, I am quite a big n00b with Linux. I need help with this issue. I didn't want to install
Linux on my hard-drive but still wanted to use it as a normal version not from a Live CD. I was

Hi, are there any linux players out there? I know there are a lot of unique linux games out there,
but they are too much to try them all (and my drive space is very limited). I'm currently
trying auteria, a nice mmorpg, also available for windows. I like it because it's not as
stupid (personal opinion), as most otherf MMORPG in which everything I do is killing monsters to get
better weapons and higher levels to kill more monsters. Of course you can do the same in Auteria, if
you want... but besides that it's really nice and you can do a lot of other thing....
Have you ever used an application or played a game and thought, "If you could only..." or "If I knew
how I would add..." but didn't know where to start? I did and decided to do a lil research. I

advanced. After each tutorial there is a test to practice what you just learned. I dunno if I am
allowed to post the url to these sites here due to spam filters but I will say that if you search
for "c programming" in any major search engine it should be the first link (after the....

Here's a good question: Is Linux better at utilizing hardware efficiently to produce optimal
performance out of your components. I hear a lot about Mac OSX being so much better with Intel
processors and yada yada, but I don't know if this is true or if a bunch of Mac elitists said a
bunch of crap and ran with it. I don't think there are actual comparable benchmarks, but if
there are, where does Linux lie in the hardware efficiency race? (Or is it dependent on which Linux
distribution it is, like how XP still beats Vista in performance?)....
I first tried Linux a few years ago, not because I was completely against Windows or anything like
that, but just because I had some free time on my hands. I started off with Mandrake 9.0 which was
very user friendly and Windows-like. After reading through a bunch of message boards and learning
which distros are good for what, I soon realized my current distro was great for Linux noobs. So
then I decided to try something a little more advanced like Slackware which I knew had a steep
learning curve. Since then I've been using Slackware as my main OS and couldn't ....
About three years ago I decided to learn how to use Linux and after a lot of posts on a forum I
tried Ubuntu Linux as it was recommended as a good first Linux distro. Ubuntu is not the easiest
Linux distro to use but with its unmatched forum community support it is one of the easiest to learn
to use. One of the problems with learning Linux is that a lot of users have an attitude that Linux
should be a free Windows knock off which it is not. Ubuntu is build on a Linix core or kernel and is
a different Open Source and free as in to use operating system. This brings us to t....

Hey. I use Windows mainly, as I use games and graphical programs the most. However, I use Linux a
bit, just for programming and other things like that. I'm not that good at programming and
linux though ;_;... Well, I decided that the main reason I don't like to use it is that it
looks so alien, and I hate how GNOME looks. I hear that if I move to KDE I'll be sacrificing
some performance or whatnot. I have this really crazy linux zealot friend who preaches the linux
gospel to me, and will attempt to beat down any reason why I like Windows. I would ask ....
