In my experience, the best way to have people learn about the importance of being careful about downloads is to have them get a really bad mal-warre which locks their machine solid. Believe me, it will change their habits. When a powerful, hard to remove set of malware won't let them do anything on the device and requires a major reset of the system (probably a hard drive re-format and re-inst... read more.
From search bars to computer pals, cursor software to password remembering software, screensavers and so on without any care of what ALL they're download?
Are people still so stupid they click on the advertisements for free cars and boats?
You'd think with all the computers that people would know how to use a spyware destroyer or at least not download so much stupid junk.
What would be the best sollution? commercials? or should we just mass spam like aol with their cupholders/cds?
Its because people are idiots, they are too concerned about what their pc looks like rather than how it operates, the plain fact is that everyone tinks those pree ipod things are real and that they will get one by entering, but instead they take your email and send you adverts for more crap with more spyware.
Indeed, we download much spyware. I'm not going in to any pop-up or something, but some spyware you just can't block.....
You can prevent getting spyware by not going to some sites...you can think of the most yourself i think.... Do never go in on some banner or something, that says stupid things.. Have a good blocker. Like ad-aware or something. And scan you computer once a week or something.
Ya, I will admit there is soem that just cant be dealt with thatsw why I refresh my copy of windows every 4 months... Sad thing is I never have to with linux =p
I think the big reason why people download spyware is a lack of education. People just don't realize what they are downloading onto their computers. I have had alot of friends call me over to help do something on the computer. While doing this I have noticed that many people have alot of spyware software installed onto their computer. When I point it out to them they always say that they didn't know that the program contained spyware. I explain to them the type of things to look out for and usually when I come over the next time they have signifcantly less malicious software installed if any at all.
You ask why people are so bumb as to install spyware, well tell me if you were walking down the street and saw a 100 dollar bill laying on the sidewalk, would you pick it up? Now what if I told you that same Bill was laced with a powerful nerve toxin. Withen several seconds of touching it your skin would start to grow legions and swell, within several minutes your throat would swell and you would sufficate. Now tell me why you picked up that 100 dollars. Probably because you wanted it. So why would you download a desktop buddy? Because you want it, and just like that 100 dollar bill there was no sign anything was wrong.
Well, If you care for your secuirty (and health) you would INVESTIGATE first..... I mean come on, And YES I agree its pathetic the number of spyware that exist but ...well nvrmind...
People just dont know how harmful some of those things are..and they really dont know that they get spyware and such from clicking links like that and those phony "You've won Blah blah" and on top of that alot of spyware is unnoticable to people like that. Like Arigato said its lack of education.
Of course, these days you have to be careful of what you download. If it seems to good to be true, it probably is...and probably may affect how your PC operates. I never click any pop-up/banner ads, and I do as much research on a product I may need - not so much for how my computer looks but how it will make it operate more efficiently. As someone pointed out earlier, there are many people out there who don't realize that they've downloaded spyware/adware - since it can be hidden within the program itself.
Heh, I have learned to go farther than the to good to be true thing... if its a bad deal its to good to be true....... Thats why trap blew me away... =p Servers (in my short run tests) arnt even laggy ;p
In my experience, the best way to have people learn about the importance of being careful about downloads is to have them get a really bad mal-warre which locks their machine solid. Believe me, it will change their habits. When a powerful, hard to remove set of malware won't let them do anything on the device and requires a major reset of the system (probably a hard drive re-format and re-install) most people learn from the experience. But not all of them. I have a friend whose machine gets locked up about every four months, but he still continues to D/l the stuff which harms the computer, so I have quit helping him to reset anything. I'm not certain he will ever learn from these experiences. Some people are just like that...
Some people download the spyware and adware without knowing it. Most people are not computer illerate. They don't know much about computers or why their computers slow down so much. They don't even know what a spyware does or how to fix that problem. However, some people donwload stuff like limewire and kazaa at their own will knowing that there will be adware and spyware. Some download softwares like aol, which comes with a useless weatherbug. The people who should take the blame for all the spyware and adware are the makers and companies who wants to advertise. There should be a law if not already banning all forms of spyware. Then theres spyware from overseas....
I'm not talking about spyware that exploits holes in your system (but, good protection and removal software takes care of that) Im talking about conciously downloaded programs, Like the stupiedest examples, Anything that teaches you how to hack (Its a lot bigger than you think) Do you honestly think that someone who can hack wont take the oppurtunity to *self censored* up your machine? Its like Yay, I spanked the monkey NOW GIVE ME MY FREE iPod! Then the sites like no you can have a iPod just spend some money online and click this and this and this and this and this and this.... And screw you pc up! ...Have fun if you want to win a free iPod by the way...
Heh, I have learned to go farther than the to good to be true thing... if its a bad deal its to good to be true....... Thats why trap blew me away... =p Servers (in my short run tests) arnt even laggy ;p
spyware is pointless and stupid i agree. But sometimes spyware you cant help but download. i downloaded something off Microsoft update and ACTAULLY got a boat load of spyware installed on my computer, Everyone offers it, and its hard to NOT download lol. but eitherway spyware does suck.
Viruses, spyware, malware, adware, and all that extraneous bull that we have to deal with nowadays
are becoming more frequent. Obviously we don't want this crap on our computers so I advise you
take precautions. * Avoid downloading anything from sites or people you don't know. Duh. *
Don't even bother looking at attachments in spam. Duh. * If you receive an e-mail from someone
you don't know, don't click on any of the links. Duh. * Anything other than a multimedia
file or a text file is able to harbor extra crap you're not going to want. This ....

Okay, so I use SBC Yahoo DSL...well, now it's called AT&T Yahoo DSL, and the price was
around...$24.99, not sure/month. And then, all of a sudden, when I received a bill, it said
$59.99. Could it be because of some websites with some huge spyware that I accidently
downloaded? Could it really be that bad. I mean, I've heard of the internet calling or something
like that, but raising your bill? Ridiculous, if this is because the company made it more
expensive, I am surely going to switch to roadrunner high-speed. :/ But somehow, I doubt it spiked

Recently called Ewido anti-malware, product of Intel and Grisoft, has changed his name in his 4
version. Last few months users on forums are posting about this software. New version got better
look, but it is also does the better job. It is also good when you install it on already infected
computer. Of course, installed earlier he prevents adware, spyware, malware, keyloggers, worms,
trojans and other crap. App could be better in graphic look, but ad this program to your antivirus
and firewall package and you will have great level of safety. Price: 27 euro Score: 4/5 ....
Microsoft released a few months a go "Windows Defender beta." It is a free tool that lets you track
down and delete all unwanted spyware on your computer. It is very useful and better than those other
spyware programs that you have to buy. It includes a "Quick Scan" if you don't have time to scan
your whole computer. You can also set it to scan on regular times and days of the week. The only
thing i don't like about it is that the Full Scan takes about 2 hours to complete. But overall,
it is a very usefull download.....
McAfee Finds Lots Of World Cup Related Spyware As the world cup season draws to an end,
many of us may have downloaded ample amounts of World Cup merchandise from the internet to show our

Spyware is software or hardware installed on a computer without the user's knowledge which
gathers information about that user for later retrieval by whomever controls the spyware. Spyware
can be broken down into two different categories, surveillance spyware and advertising spyware.
Surveillance software includes key loggers, screen capture devices, and trojans. These would be used
by corporations, private detectives, law enforcement, intelligence agencies, suspicious spouses,
etc. Advertising spyware is software that is installed alongside other software or via ....
