How Do You Work Mambo? Could You Help? - Same subject, different questions.

I would like to know how to use Mambo? Can you add pages to it? I see this frontpage and content management, and I am once again lost! I need to know several things. What will allow me to build a complete working site that is free, that DOESN'T look like a blog, and that can add multiple pages to it. Is it possible to use a template? How do you even install a template. I know, a lot of questions and I hope this is even in the right area. Please help so I can find out what to do. Here is what I want:

A program that will help me build a full working site.
No complicated stuff, just edit and stuff. If you could help me work Mambo, that would be great.
I need it to be able to create pages without having to install a new installation on Fantastico each time.

So if you could help me out, I woulod REALLY appreciate it. Thanks.

From the reading I have done on the various CMS's offered at Trap17, Mambo is not the easiest one to use. If you feel you must use a CMS. I suggest you switch to Joomla. There is some info on choosing a CMS from Trap 17 in my thread here:
http://www.trap17.com/forums/index.php?sho...33573&hl=drupal

I mentioned Joomla as the easiest in my second post.

The obvious question though, is do you really need a CMS? It is a lot easier for a beginner to just get a free webpage maker which allows you to drag and drop what you want where you want it. They're called WYSIWYG editors (What You See Is What You Get). They're the easiest way for a non-technical beginner to make a website.

I used to use mambo ages ago, so I looked in my old bookmarks and found -- http://www.mambotutorials.com/content/view/73/144/. It seems like they've kept it fairly active, 4.5.1, where as the newest version is 4.5.3.

Pretty much everything is similiar.. take a look, it should help you with your questions smile.gif

ok, mambo is now Joomla, essentially the same thing, but the altest updates are now claled Joomla! and are more stable.

mambo/joomla does not look like a blog unless u make it look like a blog.
You can create multiple pages by creating static content, and then creating links on the main naviagtion links and/or in content posts.

you jsut need to fiddle aroudn with it yourself and see what it can do.

before i bothered installing joomla i messed around in the admin of their official demo page for bout a week.

they do have documentation as well.

in short, all the info is there and what your asking is very possible, its the best CMS by far. . . not the hardest, but not the easyest either.
just keep messing with it and you'll udnerstand the system it uses.

Thank you. That is what I needed. I will start messing around with it. I will also try the WYSIWYG editor. But I use it alot already. I want something that makes a site look professional and I am not sure if I could do that with a WY editor. Hey thanks for the help guys and I will try what you said. Thanks.

wild20,

My site is run by "Joomla!" www.johnstownpoker.com

To add new templates, modules, and components, www.joomlaresource.com

The default template will make your site look like a blog, but you don't even have to edit index and css files to reorder the content. You can reformat module positions simply by editing the modules themselves. There you can position where you want each selected module to go.

If you need more specific help you can contact me PM or AIM (elevenmil). I've been using this program for almost a month now and I know just about everything you need to know to get things started.

If you want to add content to a fresh Mambo installation, make a few sections and categories uder them, then write some content items under those sections/categories.
It will allow you to build a very nice looking site, but doing it the way you want will take time and patience.
You can make a blog by using Blog Section menu links instead of Content Section links.
To install templates, open the Admin console, go to Site -> Templates -> the first Install link under Site Templates.

I could surely help you with your Mambo site. Send me a PM or email me at michaelper22[at]gmail[dot]com (replace the 'at' with @ and the 'dot' with '.') and we can arrange a deal, or hit me at AIM; my screename is mikeperl22.

The default Mambo template is considered horrible by most people's standards, let alone for making a blog. And for rearranging module postions, you can easily do that in the Site Module Manager.

  7. Cms Made Simple
A weird experience for this Mambo user (10)
I came across yet another CMS called CMS Made Simple (I'll just call it CMSMS from here on). Of
course, it is free and open source, and it is very compact (its latest stable distribution is 1.89
MB zipped, Mambo's is a lot larger, like 8 or more MB proably). Any page loads quickly, and are
clutter free. Part of CMSMS's features are its templating system, which works pretty
differently. In Mambo, there are the index.php template, and its accompanying template_css.css
files. In CMSMS, there's the template (stored in the DB as far as I know), and a whole bun....
