Start off by looking at what services or products your local area lacks. What items do you have to travel a long distance to buy? What services are a long way from your home. Look at what you want in the local area, and its likely that a lot of other people want the same thing. If you can't see anything lacking in your local area, would you be prepared to set your business up in an area that needs it, and travel a longer distance to it each day? Also, choose something you have a lot of knowledge in, and a passion for. It really shows if someone cares about what they are selling or doing. Your local Citizens' Advice Bureau should be able to provide all the legal details required to get your business off the ground, and good luck for the future

Its an excellent question. I will probably proceed with writing a few short articles on small businesses, getting started and the like. In the meantime, my suggestion is pop into your local bookstore and find the business section! There are tons of good books out there. Some that I recommend are Rich Dad, Poor Dad by Robert Kyosaki, Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill (This is an old book but it's information is timeless and the advice is as solid as you will probably ever find. In fact, anything by Napoleon Hill imo is solid gold.) and The E-Myth by Micheal E. Gerber. Just flip through the books you find and try to avoid the get rich quick scheme books. They almost never work. The more knowledge you can collect, the more chance you will have of being successful. Just remember to take everything with a grain of salt as they say, cause books aren't always correct about everything. Good luck in all your projects! Sean

I just started a small business providing home technical support for Mac and Windows users in my area. Why? Because they are all tired of the price gouging of Best Buy and Circuit City. I can provide prices far cheaper, and still turn a large profit. The hardest part was finding an investor to start up the business, which was my high school. Now, my friend and I have almost paid off that investment and are on our way to full business ownership.

Every think is related to business and sad thing is you did not get a way. If you think about the man who deliver newspaper he is doing a business. Think about some of your friend arrange e party and you fixed a ticket. Or may be one of your friends or relative have a business or what ever and he need some goods and you know where it found tell him you want to supply the goods. Or what ever. Try to figure out what is easiest and convenient for you.

I dunno, there are so many things to do. I know some people who import imitation sunglasses from china and sell them here in the US for a big time markup. They're sold as imitation, not the real thing, but people are still willing to pay for a $20 pair of sunglasses that looks the same as a $200 pair... there's good money in importing. rvalkass and PSTUBb also had really great advice, PSTUBb, I have read both those books. Very good =)

In industrial sector China is improved a lot. I think they are one of the best country in the world. They can make almost any thing in a cheep rate. This is a good idea if you get chance to import something which is continent to you and sell those in your local market. But for that you have to give a lot of time and labor. And there are so many things like you have to have a trade license and many other things. If you start the business for the first time you better not to take your step in importing. You better do something else and try to learn something about everything and every thing about something. /Have a nice day

I totally agree that your business should be something you know a lot about AND are passionate about. Then what you do will not feel like work. I wanted to add to a couple of previous comments - * once you have decided on what you are doing, create an actual business plan. This involves setting up a clear idea of what you will do and how you will generate income from it. * streamline your processes (things that you do in a systematic manner in your business, eg invoicing, quoting etc) and have these documented, so that you are not 'starting from scratch' each time you need to do something. * find and maintain good relationships with suppliers. Just about any business needs suppliers - and the more reliable they are, the smoother your job will be * join or create a user group / business group in your local area if you are working on your own. Others' ideas and a fresh ear is great to bounce ideas off. * work out who your market is (ie. the types of clients you will be selling your product/service to and make sure your marketing and advertising efforts go in the right form and to the right people. For example, if you are selling budget websites, do not advertise in high end business magazines, but try the local paper etc Thats about all I can think of for now

What are your interests? You should do something you love, otherwise you may not have the motivation to stick with it when things get tough. I would start by compiling a list of things you could sell/do that you would really enjoy, even if they sound crazy or like they wouldn't make a good business. Then, do some market research and see what's already being sold. You'd do best to offer something new, so see if anything on your list is novel and unique. If not, think of ways to combine different items on your list, or think of variations. Also take note of times in your life when you wish you had a particular good or service. Perhaps many others would like it too. Could you offer it? Some of the most sucessful ideas are simple, common sense things that no one bothered to think about before. So start basic, do a lot of reading/thinking, and listen to your instincts. The idea will probably come to you when you're doing something completely unrelated, and then you'll be set!

Will please help me or email me coz I’m willing to invest. Thank you and I would appreciate your reply. So you want to start a business, let me give you some ideas and their profit margin. Lets take it from some one who is CEO and founder. My business was imports and export, bank and supermarkets. This is a good idea and now I'm a billionaire, with 40.7 billion dollars. The idea of doing all this is hard so you should start small like, opening a supermarket. The secrets behind a supermarket is having a store with name brand things at a cheap price and making a profit, well its like this, finding name brand things from companies is hard, they want to make money so you buy a lot of that stock in exchange for a cheap price. This is good for you, you got good price and a lot of cheap stock, so your price are good, and in return you make money that will help you. Most people think the cost of starting a supermarket is high but look at my success story, The money is good is your willing to risk it. So when you have more money you expand and do more things, to increase your money and you get richer and keep doing this until your richer than me or at lease a millionaire.
