| | One free web hosting site I came across fooled me into signing up with their promises of a PHP Sendmail feature, SMTP, and mySQL. And dya know what i found out after wasting my time signing up. Only the webspace and subdomain name were free, the rest you had to pay for it. What a rip off, man! |

They did not "rip you off" unless they specifically said "Every single feature, including PHP Sendmail, SMTP, and mysql is free" and also must have had that in the TOS. It pays to read tos, they could easily say "by clicking accept, you agree to pay %companyName% 10,000USD every day until christmas.

yea, i'd like to know what hosting co. since i research most all of them before bedding down with trap17. i may have something to add if i knew the co. also, there is no ripoff when they are giving you something for free btw and when you gave nothing for their services. maybe false advertising? name the hosting site so we can review this site.

Theres not very much chance (if ANY) for legal action to successfully be taken unless they have done something with your details or made money from you joining.

QUOTE(lemonwonder @ Dec 19 2007, 01:36 PM) Theres not very much chance (if ANY) for legal action to successfully be taken unless they have done something with your details or made money from you joining. Well, they haven't done anything of that sort. But I wasted my time signing up, checking my email, activating acount, only to find out the "sendmail" feature which i badly needed was available for $5 I think. I do have $5 with me but I don't have a credit card or paypal account to transact payment , and I wouldn't want to set up one just to pay $5. Yeah, can't say it was a ripoff, forgive the term I used. maybe I didn't read the TOs fully like you said. I've learnt to be more careful next time. Thanks Oh, by the way, I can't remember the name of the website, cos I deleted all bookmarks and their emails. Was something like 110mb, sorry.

QUOTE(lemonwonder @ Dec 19 2007, 02:22 PM) What is the site? I am starting to think that this is made up.... And most companies DO sell your information but its within PP. No, I'm not making this up. Why should I? I've signed up with 100s of free web hosting companies and this is the only that really disappointed me. Here's the website. Came across while going through my junk mail. 110mb.com. Their features : * 110MB 5 GB Space - FREE * Dual Xeon & Opteron based Servers * PHP 5 - FREE! * Live Support - *Open 5 hours a day * FTP (chmod enabled) - FREE! * Sendmail (PHP Mail) - *Must activate * Your Own Domain Hosting - FREE! * Safe Mode OFF - FREE! * CGI/Perl - *Must activate PHP 5 - FREE! yes, but you have to pay $9.95 for mysql database (I could buy a nice domain name with that) * Sendmail (PHP Mail) - *Must activate, yes after you pay them $5 Can't really say they tricked me. But the information they give here is very misleading for starters like me. I'm not posting this to earn trap17's favors, not being a butt-kisser. But I have high hopes with Trap17 because after earning only 30 credits(took about 2 hours to compose quality posts), I now have a hosting account with great features. Just sharing some of the things I came across while trying to set up my website. That was what I was talking about. I wasted two hours or so on their website. Thank you

Your complaining about 110mb? roflmao. It says "*must activate" next to the ones that u needa pay 4. I have to say, they are the BEST non-cpanel host, and they never said that the other features were free, they said you need to activate so you have not been ripped off! As a user of this company, and knowing others than use it, it is great and you should never doubt them!

Ok, i give up. It was my fault that I didn't go through the website thoroughly. But when you're in a hurry and want to set up your website as soon as possible, you tend to miss some of the things that you shouldn't. But I'll stick to my opinion that their advertisement was misleading for newbies like me.

Just wanted to toss up my 2 cents. Anything that is "free" has some kind of catch. Especially when it sounds too good to be true. I have been through many, many free hosts that have had issues. Some are due to lack of features, some are due to lag, others are due to crashes. Really this is the best one that I've found so far, and only requires posting, which isn't too bad. Aside from that I have used probably around 60 other hosts and none of them offered the uptime I desired. Even with this, however, there's a catch. It's free but you must be active on the forums,

Like you, I've been tricked into signing up with countless web services, only to find out that I need to pay, or that it is in fact a trial service. Misleading advertisement is a complete waste of consumers' time. In some countries that I have resided in, misleading advertisements are against the law. I don't think online advertising is monitored as much as mainstream advertising, but I don't see why there should be an exception. I agree that it would be a good habit to read the TOS, though I don't have such a habit, and I believe many people are trusting souls like me too lol. It's too bad that companies are taking advantage of us. Thankfully, I tend to not give out too much actual information whenever I sign up for things that I have yet to invest a lot of commitment in. It would definitely be a must to read the TOS and service reviews if you have been asked for billing information or you know you have to pay for a service.

Well yeah, 110mb is a popular service, being there for quite some time. They now offer 5GB space with 300GB bandwidth. But I too agree that the 'must activate' part is a bit misleading.......it gives the notion that the user has to manually activate it or through a forum. They should have had mentioned 'must register' or 'not in free version'. However, as the others have said, you cannot say it's a rip-off in any case. Unless you are referring to a 'time' rip-off

USA has better consumer protection than anywhere else in the world. Word-of-mouth reviews are the most lethal so they will learn a lesson never to take "newbies" for fools. I mean how many times can a newbie say he didn't read TOS or whatever? Take note though: If something FREE was mentioned but says "subject to terms and conditions" (in small print), there's nothing much you can do.

Hacking - What Is It And How Is It Related To My Hosting?
Doubt about the rules (10) I was reading the Trap17 rules and i noticied that hacking tools are illegal at trap17. What i want
to know is what is considered for you guys (trap people or not) as an hack tool? My opinion is that
an hack is something that breaks a system. Like brute force a password, or get inside a system and
change some values. But what about a bot? (a bot is something that automatically do a job for you,
like an anti-virus, search the virus and clean them) As a programmer, it's a problem fighting
hackers. Greetz JL....

Paid Hosting Vs. Trap17 Free Web Hosting
Trap17 : Free Hosting for websites (9) Hey peoples, after a long while of absence I've returned to T17. I have concluded that some
paid hosting servers can never beat T17. I will not mention the name of the server, unless I have a
fiat for that, but here's the conclusion: About one and a half year ago I had my site(s) hosted
at Trap 17 for about a 9 to 12 months, in this period I had all... A server wich only costs posting
on a forum, 99% uptime (I never experienced a downtime longer then 2 hours, mostly my own bad

you do that is broken! I would rate this site a 7/10. The site is at http://www.afmu.com .....
Perfect Free Web Hosting

good features (never got to try them all). However, I wasn't even with them for two days , and
somehow my site was deleted completely from their server. I went to their support forum, and
noticed a topic about an experience similar to mine. It turns out, many members (moost of the
people who post regularly there) are having this same problem. I check back on that f....
