| | Hi, I'm looking for a free HTML editor. Not one of those new-fangled WYSIWYG ones... the only conditions are....
* Its free
* It has syntax highlighting
* It has a preview mode (like on dreamweaver or whatever).
* It doesn't have any spy/adware!
I figured that theres probably a great program out there somewhere, I just havent found it yet. I used to use one that I liked but since the Great Hard Drive Crash of 2004 it has disappeared from my PC, and I can't find anywhere to download it either....
Which (free) editor do you use?

I would suggest that you go to TSware.net and get Webcoder 5. It has all that you ask for and a bunch more. It's completely free, all you have to do is register it. It comes with a good variety of script helping and also includes an auto-complete for biginning webmasters/mistresses. I think you will find that it's one of the best free editors around.

hey you don't have to ask questions like these. Incase you need it urgently you can go where everyone goes to Mr.Google. If you know how to use the advanced search then you can get whatever you want. I use frontpage. That's the best. It's simple and easy to use.

Personally I value the community forums as a way of sharing a personal experience which a large amount of us would have to go through, in this case finding a proper way to code. However, when one reads the topic correctly you see that I want one rather specific - google cant tell you which have spyware or not, or what the actual customer satisfation is like (as it is traditional to make up testimonies!). So you see, canute24, questions like these need to be asked. If I took googles word as gospel I wouldnt get very far, would I? Even a powerful advanced search cant block me from all the rogue internet traders! No one can be trusted, but you guys do come closer than most methods on the internet. (Read: company sites!) And as for you using frontpage? Yes, thats costs quite a bit. And quite a bit of money is the very thing I don't have right now!

Well, I looked into the editor mentioned. Unfortunately it seems that although the program looks good there is a bug preventing me from using it. I receive an error message. Its either a long number or code, or just the wods "catastrophic failure".... its probably my PC. So I uninstalled that, and got a copy of Pagebreeze from download.com. It looked quite good, the syntax highlighting was a horrible colour but I can live with that. However, when I opened the document I was editing, I saved it, but everything between the <body> tags had been deleted! Shock horror! So that was rather unexpected and annoying. Thanks to the legend that is the windows clip'o'board I was fine, but it was still bad. More evidence that I need you guys instead of relying on google! So basically I'm back where I started. Come on, there must be one somewhere!

Why not just buy a copy of dreamweaver and save yourself alot of time and trouble. I've used tons and went back to it. Simple and easy to use. round

Lol i don't know any hmmm i guess theres freewebs use that than take code and use in ur website i had one a long time ago hmmm i forgot what it is i well see if i can find it again i welll telll u why not use Word i mean save as a webpage open in notpad and it's in html and copy code in to webhost and your done!

All you basically have to do in Dreamweaver is point your cursor in the spot you want the code to appear, go to the appropriate menu, fill out a form, and you're done! It even has templates, and code snippets for you to use. I used Dreamweaver to start my site, but it slows down my Celeron (yes, laugh all you want), so I uninstalled it and went back to MS Notepad.

I am an advanced (x)HTML/CSS user and prefer to do my own coding, so I dont NEED a WYSIWYG editor. Or any of the special features that Dreamweaver offers! I'm not buying dreamweaver as its £339 GBP. Thats nearly 3 months wages for me. Which is why I'd prefer a simple syntax highlighter. Still havent found anything... Ill see if i can borrow a copy of dreamweaver from someone in the meantime, thankies for all the suggestions.

Try php designer http://www.mpsoftware.dk/downloads.php dont be put of by the php part of the name it edits anything! HTML, JS, PHP, SQL, XML, and anything else. It has syntax highlighting for all those and more syntaxes and a preveiw tab. the personal edition is free for non-comercial use and ive been using it for a long time and not a single problem in the form of viruses or ad/spyware Its great and sounds perfect for your needs

You may find Eclipse useful . It has a plugin called aptana to do most of html/css work .

I used 1stpage 2000 for several years until I switched to Mac. Now I use NVU. It's a bit buggy sometimes, but works very well for my needs. NVU is the opensource extention of the old Netscape Composer from way, way back, like a decade ago. But it has a bunch of features and works a lot of different platforms.

You could use NVU free html editor. =] its very nice, but remeber its free so it will lack some features. but its still very nice for being free. Just google it.

It has 1. syntax highlighting 2. toggle-on/off browser preview 3. an image viewer 4. an explorer that helps you find your pages The interface is user-friendly. If you are an MS Notepad or Vi lover, you'd appreciate the functionality of HTML Beauty.

What Is The Best Free Html Editor?

does anyone know how to import a flash into a webpage with transparenc (1) Hi I need some help , Im designing this website for school studies However, I made a flash drop down
menu, works perfectly, but you know how flash has a background when you export it in to a SWF file?
For example my flash is width= 800, and height = 200 but my div box on my html page for my
navigation is only 50 px my buttons is width of 50px and the rest of the content is the drop down
animations i want to insert it into my navigation div box but i want to set the flash background to

A Twist On Basic Authentification
html help (1) Alright, i am working on a website where a number of different users from different companies will
be looking hooking into one website. What i want is to know how i can differentiate between the
users based on the information passed by the webserver. I've been told to that information
will be passed along html_user(and if i have a distinct user then i can just query the database with

Has Anybody Tried Ms Expression Web Html Editor
It's much better than Frontpage (3) I was desperate to finish a site I was designing after I lost my hard drive and my software. I
downloaded Expression Web from the Microsoft site for a 3 month free trial, and guess what? It's
surprisingly good! Nothing like that crappy frontpage, it's standards compliant and very
good for writing CSS. Haven't heard anybody mention the program and wondering if anybody else
has tried it out. It's free to try from the MS site.....

A Small Html Problem
How to display foreign characters correctly when designing a site. (4) I was wondering how I could solve a small problem. I was told that some people see accented and
umlauted letters (such as " é " and " ë ") as question marks (" ? ") on my website. I come across
the same thing sometimes when looking at websites which use non-English characters. Funnily enough,
the other day, I looked at a site and the apostrophy ( ' ) was also shown as a question mark.
That is a very common character usually, I would think. I thought it had something to do with the
character encoding settings, and let me also mention I use Mozilla Firefox as my brows....

(4) Here's the deal. I am new at working with web objects in photoshop. I have CS3, and I created a
really nice template. I'm told I have to do something with slicing. So I have the template, and
it has images, buttons, and text on the buttons, and text fields, etc. How can I export this to HTML
and images, and be able to open it up in dreamweaver in an editable web page? I've tried
exporting to "web and devices" and exporting as HTML and Images, but when I open it up in
