Free Clip Art

Anybody have any suggestions for a site with free clip art? Spceifically, I am looking for a clip art drawing of a folder. You know the kind, seen in microsoft Windows all the time. But I want one that is in the public domain, so that I can use it on my page. It should be a pretty easy icon/graphic for me to find. But I am also just looking for some good clip art ideas.

Thanks.

Do you mean a Windows icon? Where you might see a folder open or folder closed? If it's an icon you're looking for, what size would it be? I know you can stretch it out but keeping them proportioned would be better.

You can download free icon software these days and extract them from your windows/system32/shell32.dll or any file that contains icons. If you are unsure where to look for within your computer, all you have to do is right click on any desktop icon, properties, and change icon.

Windows icons are usually 64x64, 32x32, and 16x16. 16x16 are the small ones that you might find in, for example, your help file. I have my site's menu with the style of tree on the left hand side that looks just like Windows Help function. When a link is clicked it displays open or closed folder picture. Although I'm going to change that to + or - now that I think of it.

Let us know further on what you are looking for. I know there are many 32bit icons out there that look really nice. And they are all free to download.

Cheers.

Hi:

Thanks for your replied.

Actually, I am looking for a graphic picture of a manilla folder.

I have a test bank of questions on my site. I thought that a folder would be appropriate next to each topic/chapter. The number of questions is getting too long to list on one page. So I was going to list them in separate files. So I need some kind of button or graphic so users know to click on it.

Thanks.

I don't know what manilla folder is but I'm assuming you're talking about the filing manila folder with one "L"?

Well, I uploaded few sample images to my old account and here they are. The images are readily available with any Windows program. I do not claim to own the graphics or imply that it is not copyrighted. I am simply posting an icon to my own site to get an idea if this is what you are looking for:

http://free.hostdepartment.com/c/canon/images/folder3.png
http://free.hostdepartment.com/c/canon/images/folder4.png
http://free.hostdepartment.com/c/canon/images/folder5.png

These are stock folder pictures found on any Windows program. They are copyrighted, therefore, by Microsoft. However, if you search them there are stock icons that you can have it for free.

Cheers.

PS, in few short days, I will be removing them from my site.

Hi:

Thanks for your reply. I am just looking for a graphic drawing, similar to the one Microsoft has...just a folder or maybe even a book. Or perhaps a question mark. Just a free gif image.

I do not want to use any of microsofts images, as I do not want to infringe on copyrights. I am looking for artwork that is in the public domain.

Perhaps I will just open photoshop, and draw a folder. Cant be that hard.

Thanks.

I know your post was a few days ago, but I was reading this forum and got to thinking, there is the gnome art project. That is the gnome desktop enviroment on linuix has a whole teem of developers that make themes, icons, screensavers, and wallpapers.

Now becasue they are being created for an open source product, and because the site (art.gnome.org) is a subdomain of the gnome project, I would venture to guess that the icons are opensource. You might however want to check for a liscense, after all some of then look to good to be free!

http://art.gnome.org/themes/icon/

P.S I believe the icons and such from the gnome art project are used with openoffice.org, esspecialy the linux version, thus making me believe even more that you could use them for your site. Or atleas you could download openoffice.org and rip an icon from a screenshot. I remember reading that most opensource apps screenshots are also open!
