| | I knew that the Wankel rotary engine could run on a variety of fuels, but I wasn't aware that the diesel could too. Question is, will this catch on. |

Wow that is very interesting. I am going to get a diesel truck over any other truck. Using olive oil is better than using liquid gold in your diesel car or truck (petrolium based fuel). This probably will save alot of money and more people need to be aware of things like this.

Here's the link. I suppose the most difficult part would be obtaining the vegtable oil on a road trip. some countries in asia are now developing some possible alternate to gas and they are called biogas, I heard that they are made from coconut. Same as other poster have mentioned, olive oil is pretty expensive in my place, (we cannot even use it normally for cooking purposes) so I guess this is not applicable on all area but a good thing to know and a great alternative for others
That's interesting news... I don't like the idea of sparing cooking oil just to run a car, though... I don't think it'll be enough, and oil isn't really cheap...
Well, you can get mutiple uses for one item, that's good, but I think it's better when we start using alternative energy sources. Hydrogen powered cars are already being developed, and they run without a combustion engine, so that means more room. You don't need pedals, as everything is electronically controlled from a gamepad-like steering wheel. Plus, the chassi is small, so it can fit in any size of vehicle. General Motors is doing it, I think...
I heard about that over the summer. The way things are going with gas and all they are going to need a lot more resources that can be used for gas. I saw the guy that uses olive oil on the news. In Conneticutt they have a gas station that is all ethanol so really an Ethanol Sation. Gas is less than a dollar per gallon. The guys that mix DNA to make new organisms are working on an organism that produces hydrogen to power a car. Some pretty interesting stuff. Hopefully they find something that there is a lot of so we don't use up all of our gas.
Concerning water and wind electricity, true it's free and it's renewable, but it's not always avaliable (for winds die down and rivers dry up). The most world-widely efficient and free souce of energy would probably be conversion of the heat beneath the Earth's crust into useable energy (using a system similar to that currently used by fossil fuel/nuclear power plants; the heating of a boiler which then turns water into steam which then turns large turbines which produce electricity), but this would, of course, require a lot of time/money in order to develop the technology/build the plant.
QUOTE(tdktank59 @ Oct 8 2005, 06:09 AM) Yeah im my biology class my teacher was taling to us about cars and stuff.. and we got on the subject of alternat fules cars lol... and you can take a desile car and turn it into a olive oil car lol... all you have to do is clean all the desile out of the car system and do some fun things and then itll run off of cooking oil... just go to a mcdonalds and ask for there cooking oul they normaly will give it to you for free or cheep cause it costs more money to get rid of it then to give it away lol... Just thought id let u know yeh i find that pretty cool just imagine goin down a moterway and the smell of burger comeing out of your exaust ahhhh
Hmm... Sounds like free gas to me. I wish I wasn't so lazy, or I'd try something like this out. I wonder what type of milage it gets.
