Simple Is Beter - The Future Of Computers?
- In the future, what will computers be like? (3)
-Computers - The future - Who knows - I often wonder what the average home
computer will be like in ten or twenty years time; They seem to get larger, and have more functions,
be faster, and have more RAM ect. People always look for speed when buying a computer - But is this
really the way forward? If you have formatted your hard drive, then re-installed your operating
system; you will have noticed, that things run very smooth, very fast, and with few or no error
messages. But as soon as you have installed all your devices, media software, some games m...
Dell, Compaq, Hp, Ibm, Emachine Name Brand Computers
- Which name brand computers do you think are best? (19)
Ok of all the brand name computer companies out there which one do you think is the best. I know
myself that building your own custom system is the most economic and likely the best way to buy a
computer, but if you were offered the choice of all the top brand names which one would you choose
and what makes it better than all the others. I have owned Dell, Compaq, IBM and an EMachine. In my
opinion the Dell was the best. The Dell was inexpensive to buy and was a quite stable system. The
Dell also had very little upgadability though, but man did it look sweet! The Co...
Connecting Two Computers With A Crossover Cable
- Got the basics, anything I'm missing? (7)
I was going to connect two computers together with a crossover cable to share files, and maybe even
play a few multiplayer games over it. In my understanding I need a cat5 crossover cable, correct me
if I'm wrong here. Both computers need to have a network card. After I hook up the computers I
need to set each computers IP. (I'm not to sure on how to do that) Then I need to make sure the
computers can "talk" to each other. From what I've read that's all I need to do. Anything
I'm missing? If someone could explain the part about setting the computers I...

Computers and their Future in Our Future What kind of role do you think computers will play in the
future of the world? I know that computers are already implemented in allot of today’s technologies
like our cars, airplanes, school databases and more. But what else do you think computers will be
involved in? I think that in the future, computers will be implemented allot more into the daily
lives of everybody. I mean this because the information highway is growing in great numbers! And
since the information super highway is growing, I think that the use of the de...

Computers To Read Lips
- (6)
A team of reserarchers at the University of East Anglia in Norwich, UK, has begun a progject to
devise a system for lip reading using computers.. The system would take a video taped conversation
and convert it to text. This technology will become a valuable tool for crime fighting, security
and a host of other applications such as mobile phone cameras and in-car speech recognition. This
futuristic system will replace the people who can read lips, such people are shrinking in numbers
and even they are no always precise. The real challenge is getting an accurate compute...

Computers And My School
- Not a very good combination (21)
My school has finally made me EXTREMELY mad! First of all, I need to explain sosme stuff:
Duriing this week (for three days, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday) we had testing. We had to sign
up for after-testing activities (during those days, we did nothing after we tested). Well, the only
one I really wanted, was the Internet. I signed up for it on all three days. On my first day, I
did everything I always do when I get on a school computer: Stick in my flash drive, and launch
Portable Firefox (I'm not sparking a FF vs. IE conversation) because I hate IE. N...

The Computers I Grew Up With
- (10)
You dont know how lucky you have it nowadays, this is a brief look at the computers that got me
where I am today... First up, & probably the first sight of a computer for people my age & older
is the Commodore Pet. A dire machine, which inhabited pretty much every school in the country.
CPU Speed: 1mhz Ram: 16k Rom: 20k Price: £775 Thankfully this was replaced in schools by the
BBCB, which at the time rocked because it had colour output not black & green. It didnt use
cassettes either, we used the fantastically dire floppy disks. These were the original 5...
Supercooled Light-speed Computers
- frozen atoms + light= compy @ warp speed (14)
This was inspired by the other guys post about the speed of light. So the new thing is using light
waves to do computing =) Of course it isnt really working yet but I thought it was really cool so
i figured i would post something here. The basic working thing is that you supercool atoms to
within a few degrees of absolute zero. Then you send a beam of light through them - and - viola, a
baby can crawl faster than light. What happens is that as the light wave passes through the frozen
atoms its speed is dramitcally reduced. So much so that the speed of light goes fr...
